Decided to keep going and might finish this after all... It got a bit better, there's actual plot progression now and the characters have finally started to actively do something and show that they have personalities. I'm not into the romance though. Scott's nicknames for Maddie come across as condescending most of the time. And I'm not a fan of the possessive "you're mine" kind of language in romance.

Contemplating DNFing this... to the point where I've drafted most of what my DNF review/feedback on NetGalley would look like. Maybe I'll give it a few more chapters later, but taking a break for now.

There's an uncomfortable amount of insta-lust going on here already... I was not expecting that, considering the description talks about a "slow-burning romance". And a lot of the dialogue feels a bit awkward and clumsily written, lacking the natural flow of conversation. I hope it'll get better once we're past all the exposition of introducing the characters to the reader and to each other...
