Slayermel | 664 comments We have had some talk about the enthusiasm that a lot of members show towards the monthly shelf and all the great book reviews and recommendations that have come out of it. As you know each month we create a book shelf to go along with the monthly shelf and all Read books are placed on to it.

So here’s the challenge which will go from May 10th – July 10th

Read one book you have not read before from each of the twenty bookshelves located on the Pick-a-shelf group page http://www.africa-eu.com/group/booksh...

Adventure
Asian
Chick-lit
Classics
Dystopia
Fantasy
Favorites
French
Historical fiction
Humor
Mystery
Mystery Thriller
Non-fiction
Paranormal
Psychology
Realistic fiction
Romance
카지노싸이트 fiction
Travel
Young Adult

Some shelves will have more of a selection then others due to the amount of members who participated and the Varity of books read those months. This challenge will give everyone an opportunity to revisit some of their favorite shelves and genres, and for members who are newer to have an opportunity to read from those shelves.

There are some fabulous recommendations so feel free to go back through the old folders to read some reviews to help you decide :0)

Please post which book from each shelf you have read and give it a star rating out of five. (This will be nice for everyone to see what you thought of their books)

E.g. Adventure – All together Dead by Charlaine Harris -

If you come to a shelf and have read every single book that is listed, you may pick a second book off of one of the other shelves. (Please just make a note of this in your list)

If you complete reading one book off of all shelves before July 10th you can read books that are listed on the original 카지노싸이트 shelves fitting the headings, and we will add those books to the Pick-a-shelf Bookshelf. (Please just make a note of this in your list)

I will make a list of all participants and we will keep track of how many books we have read at the end. It will be interesting to see how many of us can complete this challenge as not all shelves will be easy to complete due to the limited selections. :0)
Good luck all, and I hope you enjoy the challenge of reading outside of your comfort zones. :0)

*NOTE*
The "FRENCH" Bookshelf:
you may read anything from 카지노싸이트 French shelf during May as it's the shelf of the month, however if you have saved this shelf to read in June you will have to pick something off of the Pick-a-shelf French list.

The "Chick-lit" Bookshelf: you may read anything from the 카지노싸이트 chick-lit shelf during June as it's the shelf of the month, however the same as with last months french shelf, if you wait until July you must pick from the Pick-a-shelf chick-lit list.

Slayermel | 664 comments Katey wrote: "Question - I want to read the Grimm brothers fairy tales but both my library and my local bookshops don't have that specific "Grimm’s' Grimmest". Could I read another version of the Grimm’s bros. fai..."

Generally it should be the book on the bookshelf but for something like the Grimm Brothers fairy tales there are so many different versions of pretty much the same thing. So after looking at the book on the shelf "Grimm’s Grimmest" it has 19 stories in it, so I would say as long as whatever version you pick has at least the same amount of Grim Fairy tales in it, I will accept it :0)

Sunflower: But hey wait a minute....I re-read the rules. Does this mean you can only read something that one of us has already read from that shelf during that month, not something new?

Hi Sunflower, yup exactly! We are picking books others have read for those shelves and have taken the time to rate, review and recommend. Now the monthly shelves for May and June will be more open as they are the shelf of the month, so as long as you pick a book from those topics you have free choice. :0)

This is definitely an incentive to read more of a variety and quantity of books for the monthly shelves, maybe we will have a similar challenge again later in the year or next year :op

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
This is a great challenge. I had a lot of fun picking out which books I thought I might read. Now we will just have to see how I do!

message 20: by Slayermel (last edited May 03, 2010 07:00PM) (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments Lyn, like you I'm not sure If I will be able to read 20 books, but you can always continue on once the two months are up. I just put 2 months because that will be around the time the next challenge will begin. :0)

Like you I also enjoy picking books, I think that's the best part *laughing*

Thanks Slayermel. There's another book on that shelf that I've been wanting to read so i'll try and read that one and if I can't I'll get the Grimm book from my library and read the fairy tales that are in Grimm's Grimmest.
I'm soo excited for this challenge. I agree aswell, choosing the books you want to read is very fun.
I set up a list and everything the other night lol.

I know it was something someone in this group said that made me add Little Brother by Cory Doctorow to my TBR list. So I thought I'd find it on one of the shelves for this challenge. But I don't. I guessed Dystopia, but it's not there. Anyone remember reading it for a month here, and what month/shelf it would be on?

maybe scifi or young adult?

Slayermel | 664 comments Susan, it may have come up in one of the other discussion folders. I've tried searching and have not found it yet in the monthlies. I have only added books to the shelves that readers have actually completed for the monthly shelves.

Hi, Susan! I planned to read that during our dystopia month, and I also wanted to have it as part of my chain. But due to library due dates of other books and the way my chain went, it never worked out. I did end up reading it, but it didn't make it as part of my chain OR for a dystopia read. Sorry. :( Others might have planned to read it, too, but never got to it.

The count is interesting, but it's misleading. I knocked off a lot of the short quick ones early on, and most of the ones I have left are LONG. Many of you are going to pass me up as I make my way through the 19th Wife, City of Bones, and The Subtle Knife. (:>)

I agree, Susan! :) I'm in the middle of the 1000+ page Count of Monte Cristo, so that's got to count for four or five books, right? Assuming I actually finish it! :) Just kidding, I think 9 books this far in the challenge is a great accomplishment!! Good job!!!

Slayermel | 664 comments There was no rule on length of book, only the stipulation that you could not have read it before, so knock yourself out :0) *laughing*

I'm excited to see when people finish, what books they will read from the matching goodreads shelf to add to our shelves, and on that note which ones they will choose? :0)

I'm holding high hopes for you there Natasha, I know your going to do it! ;0) (No pressure)
