Group Reads
Every year, we are covering literature from 6 different countries, because we are "reading a country" over the course of two months. The titles we read fall under the categories "classic", "contemporary" and "short story / novella" and we pick one title for each category.
Suitable titles for all three categories are nominated in the nomination threads and later selected in an open poll by our members or right away in the nomination thread.
Rules for Nominations and the Selection Process
A book represents a country if it is set in that country and/or the author is originally from that country, and imparts knowledge about the culture/history/society of that country. The book should also be available in English.
Nominations for our group reads start at least two months prior to our discussions and last some weeks so that members have enough time to search for interesting books they want to read and discuss.
The decision on what to read is made about two weeks prior to the reading months which gives everybody who wants to join the discussions enough time to get hold of a copy of the selected title.
You can find the countries we are reading here:

Europe through Literature Challenges
We have a yearly EtL Bingo Challenge and members can also join the yearly European Lit Challenge which can be found on "Group Home".
Quarterly Classics
In 2024, we read classics from countries we covered in 2021. These reads lasted three months.
In a first step, we decided on the country in a poll. In a second step, we nominated classics from the chosen country and, in a last step, decided in a poll what classic it is going to be. As participation was rather low, this format was not taken any further, but maybe it will be of interest some time in the future :)
Enjoy reading and discussing Europe through literature!
