Andrea Engle | 2061 comments Gentlemen, forgive my ignorance, but is that the dynasty that the empress Qi (spelling?) ruled in, and also the era of the “Boxer Rebellion?”

For an American view of gunboat diplomacy and the American public’s perception of China as decadent, you could consult books on the latter part of Teddy Roosevelt’s presidency. Remember he’s the one who said, “Speak softly, but carry a big stick!”
