Original Reborn Review: My favorite of the series so far! And I can't really say why without spoilers... Besides the spoiler stuff, I just love seeing the team grow both in size and closeness. And Fade faces an interesting moral dilemma in the middle of the book that I think is rather gutsy for the author to address, which also earns major points in the "Will Michelle love this?" question. "Super" excited to continue the series!

I still adore Aiden—one of my top favorite characters ever—and I loved getting to watch him wrestle with some really hard questions about both himself and time-travel (because of course) in this one. I wondered about this book being so short compared to the others in the series—would this be enough story to satisfy me? And it was. I'll always take more, but this novella explored and wrapped up the story so well. Also, Tanvi rocks....more

And I can't really say why without spoilers... (view spoiler)[Aiden's back! I don't always like resurrection of dead characters, but in the superhero genre it's kind of expected. AND I'm a sucker for rescues—seeing family and friends doing everything they possibly can to bring someone back (be it from a kidnapping or from the dead). Aiden was my favorite character in the first book, and I'm excited to have him back on the team! I think my favorite thing about this story is Deku (the MC) himself. He's an underdog, told all his life that he could never be a hero—the thing he wanted to be more than anything. He wants to save people with a smile, to be the person in others' lives that he needed and never really had. And through crazy events and circumstances, he finally gets his chance. So many good lessons and themes show up here too—the value of hard work over natural talent, the power of one's words and how teachers and peers can shape one's view of oneself, the fact that being a true hero means being one when no one else can see (or when everyone else thinks you're a fool for trying) and you will get no fame or glory for it. I love this series and am excited to continue on in this new-to-me format!
I was also (pleasantly) surprised to find how closely the anime followed the manga, at least here at the very beginning. A few lines are different, and there's some fun background details in the drawings that weren't transferred over, but for the most part it's all the same stuff (all of which I love). I know later volumes will deviate a bit more, and I'm very curious to see it all....more

I love how this story blends so many different genres—fantasy, Arthurian legend, and modern day all show up in this installment, with science fiction, alternate dimensions, Biblical fiction, and mythology all showing up later. I also love Billy and Bonnie and remembering the beginning of their journey as compared to where I know they'll end up. I'm so excited to continue this reread!...more
