Was it hard to get your first novel published? How did you defeat the odds?

I got published 10 years ago so it was a lot different than it is today. Back then there were no e-books or self-publishing so you basically had to get an agent and then have the agent sell your book. And yes, it was hard! :) I think there are only two real secrets to publication, though, even today. Perseverance (as in never give up!) and good writing! A good book WILL get noticed.
