Men of the Monastery: Dark Promises

High up in the Carpathian Mountains sits a monastery that is both sanctuary and self-imposed prison to ancient Carpathian warriors. These men know they are dangerous. They hope to keep others safe and prolong their existence by remaining within the walls of the monastery and keeping their darkness at bay. They are men, not of humanity, but of honor; not of this world, but of one long gone. The ways of the world are not known to them. Their savageness, needed to protect the world from evil vampires, is now their downfall. Who could love them, even if a lifemate was found? Who could overcome their savage nature, understand their break from humanity, accept their darkness enough to bring them into the light?

I created the monastery and the Carpathian warriors in it because I thought it would offer a unique hero, or heroes, to the Carpathian world. These are men who never served the new Prince. We don't know how old they are and how they felt about Mikhail's father. All we know is that they served as warriors who fought evil and kept us safe. They gave of themselves knowing it could kill them. Knowing they could be sacrificing their chance at finding a lifemate. And to ensure they remain honorable now that they have slipped into such darkness they are nearly savage, they shut themselves away to protect those around them.

I know there will be some people who will not care for the monastery Carpathians. They are too savage, too primal and lack even empathy. They feel nothing. They go entirely on instinct and what they remember of feelings. And therein lies the opportunity for me to create amazing heroines. The women who become lifemates to these men will have to have great courage and selflessness. They will need to be strong in ways they never imagined.

Dark Promises gives us a look at some of these men. We get a chance to look within the walls of the monastery. We have an opportunity to see the struggles of these men and just how far outside humanity they have come.

Who will save these men? Who would care for such savage warriors? Who would give of themselves to bring them back from the darkness. And if they cannot be saved, what should be done with them? It's these questions that I think make the monastery and its inmates so intriguing.

message 4: by Chill (new)

Chill She gets a bada** who's devoted to her. I figure they'll mellow out in a decade or two.

They are still Carpathian males. If the women are their life mates then, in the end, how could they do otherwise? I'd imagine that these men will be more volatile, kind of like Jacques was when Shay finally found him.

I'm really looking forward to this book and its sub-series. Sounds really intriguing. I'm drawn to the idea of even darker Carpathian males. I'm twisted like that. ;)

Wendy James Just what we need!!! Shake things up a wee bit. Never doubt that your heroes will be accepted. It has always been the woman who saves the man. Light to dark. Ying and yang. I can't wait!!!

message 17: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I started reading Dark Promises in the we hours by the time I finished it was 5:30a.m. I was totally intrigued by these monastery Carpathian warriors and I want their adventures to find lifemates to be successful. I can only imagine the modern day feisty women these primitive warriors must deal with! Please tell me they'll be added to the Dark Series.

message 18: by Mystipul (new)

message 19: by Bernadett (new)

Bernadett I haven't read dark Promises get, but it promises to be a very good book. Can't wait to see what these dark Carpathians are going to be like. It will take a very special woman to be with these particular Carpathians. But then, I believe that lifemate's are special anyway.
So I say let's go for adventure!!! Christine Feehan keep writing!!!!

message 27: by Bernadett (new)

Bernadett I'm still waiting on my copy from the library. Can't wait to read it. In the meantime I'm fixin to read Spider Game. Another wonderful book from Christine Feehan. It's the Ghostwalker Series. All of C.F's books are fun and exciting. I love the Dark series and I will always treasure them as the treasures they are, but it's always exciting to try her other series. They are fantastic as well. Especially her Drake Series and sisters of the heart series.

message 28: by Kristi (new)

Kristi DangerousRed I think that if the boogyman Gregori can be saved then these warriors can be as well. Even though they are far more older and only know there way they still have a chance! Even Zacarias Da La Cruz who is a law unto himself was saved! There is hope!

message 29: by Denise (new)

Denise Sooo looking forward to the monastery warriors and their lifemates!
I have to say the "Dark Series" is my favorite paranormal romance books that I have. And I have everyone of them! I'm still hoping to read about some of the warriors that have been in previous books like Mataias, Lojos and Tomas.

message 30: by Penny (new)

Penny Deloche Can't wait to read.

message 31: by Janet (new)

Janet Walker Ready, willing @ able!!! (Y)

message 32: by Mary (new)

Mary I just finished reading Dark Promises and I absolutely loved reading about these honorable Carpathians who locked themselves away behind the Monastary walls rather than turn vampire or meet the dawn. I so look forward to reading their stories and meeting their lifemates!

message 33: by Kay (new)

Kay Mayes Thank Christine for all of your books there is not a book you have wrote i have not read you are the best writer out there i love every book keep the books coming with all the series of dark, mind games, lepard people they are all excellent.

message 34: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn Kontos I just finished reading Dark Promises and I cant wait to see how these warriors of Old work out, I loved this book and was hoping after Dark Ghost that Monstary would work it's way into future. I just didnt except it this soon and was tickled that this book was about them. The lifemates are exceptional women, just what these men need.

message 35: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Munroe I read the book in less than 5 hours and was inthralled. It is a great book and look foward to more about these men. The description orlf their eyes drew me in even more. I love it.

message 36: by Gabbi's Books (new)

Gabbi's Books One of the reasons I love reading your stories is because you always create such strong, independent heroines. I look forward to reading about the women who are so courageous and strong enough to love the Carpathians from the Monastery.

message 37: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Ritter-Martinez Read the Dark Promise, and FREAKING LOVED IT! Could not put it down the whole time. Please tell me that Gary is going to find his lifemate. I've thought for a while that Gabby wasn't meant for him, just something felt off like how both Gregori and Mikhale both acted like he needed to keep distance from her, like both knew that neither was meant for the other. I wanted to cry though for him. Please tell me there will be more stories about the men of the mountain as I like to call these guys, because they all remind me of the lonely mountain in the LOTR series. Isolated, remote, dangerous, and vital to everyone's existence.

message 38: by Christine (new)

Christine I hadn't had a chance to come here until much later in the day and was so excited to see so many people stopped by. Thank you.

So happy the twist in the story surprised so many people.

Yes, of course we will come back to Gary and he will get his story. I'm just waiting to hear from his lifemate. She will have to be very special.

These monastery Carpathians are intriguing to me. I am glad to see people are interested in them!

message 45: by Christine (new)

Christine Varied Books wrote: "Hmm what will the h receive in return for all her selflessness? Will the H remember how to cherish the h down the road?"

I like to think that, together, they are stronger and what they give to each other is the greatest gift they have.

message 46: by Christine (new)

Christine Chill wrote: "She gets a bada** who's devoted to her. I figure they'll mellow out in a decade or two."

LOL They better mellow out just a bit as soon as possible. Those women are not going to put up with bad tempers and bossy pants for too long.

message 47: by Christine (new)

Christine Joann wrote: "Well my interest was defenitly peaked."

I'm so glad to hear it Joann!

Christine Julie wrote: "i am reading dark promises at miniute and loving it , the monastery has been there in a couple of your books and piqued my curiosity"

Julie, I was really hoping readers would be interested in these men enough to accept all the twists and turns I threw at them.

message 50: by Christine (new)

Christine Melanie wrote: "I was intrigued from the moment the monastery was mentioned. These men need strong women that won't take their crap when they are being unreasonable. It will be nice to see the Sparks that will be...."

Exactly! The women will need to be nurturing and understanding, but they will also have to be strong enough to hold their own.
