am i harsher on asian narratives as an asian reader? i think so. i'm not sure if that's fair.
there are a good number of compelling themes written throughout this book, but i think maybe it was too ambitious. it's a story told in 3 sections--each narrated by someone in the same family, but of a different generation. the narration felt distinctly impersonal, which detracted from what otherwise would be powerful moments and relationship dynamics. i ...more
