Big-hearted yet twisty story from the Queen of women's contemporary fiction. At the start of the book, I thought, 'eh, these people are behaving oddly', but we're in Emma Robinson's safe hands - she knows what she's doing - and so it turns out that everything makes perfect, fascinating sense. I loved the Spain setting and the different family lives and the teenage girls and being a parent of young women and...everything.
I think what I loved most in 'We both have secrets' (and probably in all of Emma's books) were the last few chapters: when the secrets and stresses have receded and we are left with the new realisation/situation that is always suffused with friendship, warmth and humour. Brilliant.
