Robert | 29 comments Bentley,
Hi. I've been an inactive member of the club for sometime, but I'm delighted to see that you've started a new military series and look forward to participating. My interests are the Civil War, WWII and Korea. You might also consider as topics how some critical conflicts that were avoided (e.g., the Cuban Missile Crisis) or why and how wars ended (e.g., Vietnam).

Robert

Good ideas Robert - thank you.

Right now we have just started a book selected by the group membership on the Civil War. I hope you will get a chance to join in.

Debye | 36 comments Though the vote has been tallied, I vote for the French and Indian War.

Bryan Craig Thanks, Debye, this will be thrown into the mix for another vote.

Debye, right now the tally is as it stands. At this time we cannot add your vote to the existing tally. There may be future votes on other ideas and suggestions and of course please vote on these in the future. If there are ties, we have a revote. If some of the other polls on other suggestions occur; the order might change. If in fact we are left with four suggestions which have the same number of votes; in the future we will have a rematch. But right now; the tally is as it stands.

Ricky | 6 comments I looked at the online database for my local library and they can get the Battle Cry of Freedom. However, with the discussion nearly over (it looks like it ends the 29th of this month), I will most likely wait for the next book in the military series.

I see that Roosevelt's Centurions is listed to start in September and at first I thought that was the next book for the military series, but then this poll indicates the next one will be focused on WWI. Am I missing something or has the next book to be focused on for the military series not been chosen yet?

The FDR book is special. I hope you join us, though. Don't forget to add citations:

Battle Cry of Freedom The Civil War Era by James M. McPherson James M. McPherson James M. McPherson

Roosevelt's Centurions FDR and the Commanders He Led to Victory in World War II by Joseph E. Persico Joseph E. Persico Joseph E. Persico

Ricky it is never too late to join in on any discussion -just make sure to watch for spoilers and post on the appropriate weekly non spoiler thread.

Bryan was very helpful with the links he provided for you showing you how we do the required citations. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to ask us for any special help you might need.

The Roosevelt selection is a special spotlight and not part of the Military Series.

W.D. Currie (wdcurrie) | 3 comments Way way after the fact... but has anyone read about Dakota War of 1862? Trying to work through the references in Wikipedia on this topic. Sort of wanting to read more after reading about the dissatisfaction of some Original Americans with the Crazy Horse monument. Good book on the topic?

Mike Mccormick | 4 comments Does anyone know where the discussion of An Army At Dawn is going to be. Is there a syllabus? An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa, 1942-1943

message 62: by Alisa (new)

Alisa (mstaz) Mike, a separate thread will be set up for the book discussion and syllabus with plenty of time for folks to get the book and know the schedule before the discussion starts. It will be up as soon as it is ready, and will be in its own folder clearly designated.

Don't forget to use the proper citation format.
An Army at Dawn The War in North Africa, 1942-1943 by Rick Atkinson by Rick Atkinson Rick Atkinson

Thanks.

That is interesting Jose - I will think about it.

message 66: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) I wonder if we would like to do a read about the few months leading up to WWI? The following book shows the absolutely ridiculous dance of death being done by the countries involved which led to the great slaughter.

The Lions of July Prelude to War, 1914 by William Jannen by William Jannen Jr(no photo)

message 67: by Nick (new)

Nick | 2 comments Well it's not really a war, but maybe the alcohol prohibition war in the US against the mob? and about the Anglo-Dutch wars, there were four! The Dutch-Indie's war, that's a subject which i want to know more about and the Sovjet-Afghan war
