Romance Readers Reading Challenges discussion

Just joined? Drop in and say Hi!

LOL I call it awesome! It's the author in me. I get so discouraged when I try to talk to people about books (IRL here in No. Carolina or anywhere online where I'd expect them to be "thinking digital") and find not only do they not really read much anymore but if/when they do, it seems, more Americans like paper than eBooks.
(((bulk of message deleted at request of Jane PS)))
For me, well, I write because...I'm a writer. Writers write. I can't imagine not writing anymore than I could imagine not reading!! I'm delighted to hear your attitude ~Ana~Belle~ truly :) Thank you. 'Tis the season to rediscover faith in something, right? I am reinspired, so to speak. Next time your hubby makes fun of you for carting the eReader around tell him you are single-handedly attempting to stomp out illiteracy by "teaching by example" and showing others how easy it is to read! Then ask him when's the last time he read a book (LOL) Okay, maybe that's going too far.

@webbiegrrl

I'll be deleting them tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy the challenges and the friendly members- great to have you!

Jane, as mod, you can move them but as a user, I am not empowered to move a post. Would you please move them rather than deleting if you feel they are inappropriate here?
I definitely did mean them to be welcome and conversation in response to the introductory remarks made (esp. the parts about new to eBooks and new owner of an eReader) but I won't argue with you - you're the mod. Do what you will! Thank you for posting a forewarning rather than simply deleting silently. Moving them would be nice, too.

I hope to come by often and learn more about everyone this year.

Sarah - I actually can't move your post. You need to cut and paste it where you want it saved. I can only move whole discussion threads to new areas.

I just tried to send you a message, but either 카지노싸이트 is not functioning in that area or you don't accept messages :)

Welcome to the group Annie! Hope we can help you in your english reading quest :)

Okay, I'll try to figure out where it should go and then copy/paste it to a new thread/post.

"I just tried to send you a message, but either 카지노싸이트 is not functioning in that area or you don't accept messages :) "
I only accept messages from friends and I only accept friend requests from people who say WHY they want to be friends. I found that my "fellow authors" (total strangers who never spoke to me anywhere else at any time) were friending me like crazy just so they could SPAM me with events about their books. Yes, authors apparently do it to each other. I don't do it to anyone and never have but really can't stomach it now that I see how pervasive the problem is here on 카지노싸이트.

@webbiegrrl

Hopefully you don't still have a problem with me actually talking to a new member here in Introductions? Sounds like you just wanted me to go away. I hope I'm misunderstanding your impatience as Moderator but that kind of reception is something I've run across a couple of times now when I don't lie about who I am.
I know I'm exuberant (and prolific) but it's like the mere mention of being an Author evokes some kind of "hex sign." When I post under a different ID and do not mention being an Author--basically LIE about who I am--even though I'm just as long, prolific and rambling in my posts and the only difference is it's not "from an Author," suddenly I'm accepted and praised as being some kind of wonderfully open and friendly person. Really? Long posts are okay unless they're from a writer?
Are we really that prejudiced and backwards here that an "Author" label equals hate and lack thereof equals acceptance? Or is this an example of the bullying on 카지노싸이트 I keep hearing about? I keep denying it exists. Maybe I'm the one being ignorant and it really is a problem here.
I've only just recently joined this group and did so because I'm a romance author and love romance reading (and readers) but I can't say I feel particularly welcomed to this group on this introduction thread. I find two-facedness to be one of the most heinous flaws of human character--and one of the 21st century's greatest downfalls. If I'm accepted under the ID that is not self-identified as an Author then I should be just as accepted under this ID, as well. Sad that our technological advances have lead us to such backwards behavior interpersonally.

@webbiegrrl
Hello everyone. My anme is Jennifer and I just discovered this group. I'm just discovering a lot about goodreads, so I'm easily confused as of yet. I read so much as a teen and young adult. Many classics and mysteries. Then I had four kids. Any of you in he same boat might notice it kinda hampers your ability to have any time alone to even rest, let alone read, so it had been many years before a few friends couldn't stop talking about 50 Shades. I finally gave in, bought the book, and within 6 days, had finished all 3. Yes, my house duties did suffer, but I was entranced! I have read so many books since, looking for one to ease my 50 Shades withdrawals, and while I loved Sylvia Day's books and Beautiful Disaster, I'm having a very hard time trying to fill the void. I even started writing my own, but am still desperate to find books that I enjoy as much. Doesnt have to be S&M, in fact I could do without it. But I absolutely LOVE the obsessive love stories. I'd LOVE any suggestions :)

Hopefully y..."
Sarah - I'm sorry you feel this way. We keep this thread as an introduction for new members to comment in. This is not a promo thread, nor a 'how to' thread. Quite simple really.

Welcome to the group Prami! We love to chat about our books. Try this thread if you want to jump in right now - http://www.africa-eu.com/topic/show/1...

Welcome Jennifer! I'm sure quite a few members can point you in the right direction for more books along the lines of Fifty Shades. I posted a link to the 'What Are You Reading' thread above - you could try asking there. Otherwise the Pick It For Me Challenge (here) could give you a few good options as well. ...It may have already closed for January though :(

I am really looking forward to joining in the challenges in 2013!
Hi, I'm Charlotte and I'm addicted to books!!!

I joined RRRC to find more romance books and was promptly sucked into the challenges. Those challenges are yet to release their tight grip on me ;)

Your reading tastes fit in with pretty much our whole membership, so you chose well :) Hope you enjoy it as much as well do!

I enjoy Contemporary, Historical, Highlander, and some paranormal.

Both of you romance lovers have come to the right place! I hope you enjoy the challenges, book recommendations and wonderful members :)

카지노싸이트 will fill more voids than you can poke a stick at Liz - beware, you get very easily sucked into this website!
Kelly - the challenges are great fun IMHO (in my humble opinion) and they certainly broaden your horizons ;)

I used to love reading as a Teen, and my children are complete Book Worms, so I have decided to follow their lead, and have now purchased an E-Reader and afew books in the sales. Combined with my 'tiny' library and the internet, I'm sure I build a nice collection.
And to give me the incentive to read a selection of Romance Genres, I can't think of anything better than a Challenge or two!!

RISSA! Hi :) Please, come and play with us!

Hi Rissa!! It's not too late for some January fun! The only one you missed was the Jan PIFM- all the others you can jump into any time :)

Welcome to the group April! You've taken the best step of all (other than joining us, of course!) by picking up that ereader. Most of us have one and adore them! You can't go wrong :)
You should check out the thread recently started by another new member asking where to go for cheaper ebooks. It's here: http://www.africa-eu.com/topic/show/1...

Hey Rissa! Great to see another familiar face over here :) We will keep you inundated in challenges - although of course, some of them are rather interchangeable between the groups. But that just makes you feel you have achieved more ;)

That's what I'm hopin for! :)

I'm Putri, just joined this group because I just joined goodreads too, I'm trying to catch up with my reading hobby, I was too busy in college, didn't have time to read. Now I've worked and reading like a mad man.
My favorite author is Jennifer Crusie, Julia Quinn, Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Linda Howard.
Looking forward to join the challenges!! :))

I would suggest you start with the monthly reading challenge and then go from there... A list of current challenges can be found in the January newsletter which is posted in the general section of this group. (I'd post links but that's a step too far for me when I'm on my iPad ;) Let me know if you need more help finding them...
Good luck!

Welcome to the group Angie! Just jump on in to any of the challenges (although Pick For Me won't 'open' again for a fortnight or so...)
Hi. I'm a voracious romance reader and a romance writer and I'm happy to have found your group. The challenges look fun.
I read paranormal, historical, contemporary and erotic romance. Actually, I read some YA romance too.
I write paranormal and contemporary romance. I am particularly fond of vampires, fairies, and British accents.

There are so many books and recommendations flying around this group you won't have any problem expanding your TBR :) And our interests cover the whole genre - ppl have their preferences but most ppl cross over and try all areas of romance...
Best of luck with the writing Ana!

My favorite Romance is The Outlander series, of course. My favorite fiction book is "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. And the one book that I consider an absolute read for everyone is "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom.
I look forward to getting to know you all :)
