Anne (annecurrin) | 26 comments Thanks Lynn! This is just what I have always done in the past...I have in the past, logged the day I started a new book. But if you know me and look at my log sheet, you can tell the day I started a new book. It is almost ALWAYS the same day I finish one! Although this past year, I've been very bad about reading too many at one time....

message 102: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie I'm ready to get this started I only recently started keeping track of what I'm reading and I'm averaging 10-12 books a month so I'm hoping I can get it done!
Good Luck Everyone!

OMG, it sounds like me. I have a very hard time putting a book down.

message 104: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) great-nearly here and remember I want the first person to complete a book in 2010 to post it here-will be the 144 groups way of celebrating the new year!!!

message 105: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm still working on redoing my DL list of 17 books for 2010. That is the only list of books I make other than that I just see what my mood brings me.
I usually do a written book journal and this I'm going to start a listing on my shelves in good reads for 2010 and here of course.

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

Agreed as well. I counts for the day that the book is completed.

message 107: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I'm getting excited, too! I'm so ready for Jan 1, just so I can start adding up my books!!

And yes, Magpie, I agree. It has always been my dream to have one giant room with wall to wall shelves hehe. I'm STILL really jealous of Belle in Beauty & the Beast lol

message 108: by [deleted user] (new)

I wonder if Belle got through all of those books yet? LOL!

message 109: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Well (hanging head in shame) I just visited Amazon and spent a BUNCH of money on books that are being released over the next couple of weeks. They are for series that I read, so I HAD to have them, really I did. :o)

message 110: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) Ann, don't you hate it when you have to do that. I realize it was a BIG sacrifice for you, but I think you can handle it. LOL

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

But what a good way to spend money! You can always read a book more than once or you pass it on to another loving home. =) Happy Reading. Plus these books will help you hit the 144 goal.

message 112: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments I'm really jacked for this! I have my on-deck-to-read list #1 ready to go along with my little counter and I'm just finishing up a book today for 2009. I feel like a bigger geek than usual but I'm having fun and that is all that counts. :D
I think it's great that so many people are doing this challenge as it will be great inspiration and support for all of us.

message 113: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I finished a book yesterday so hit 100 books for the year so far and 11 books for the month. Maybe today I'll still get a book finished don't know. But 12 for the month is a possibly. I'm looking forward to starting the new count for the new year. Have to decide on my new book journal today I had bought a few just have to make a final decision which one to use.

message 114: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) less then half an hour to go to midnight and finally finished my last book for 2009!!

i am about to start reading what will be my first finished book for 2010 Under the Dome!!!

Let us know what you first decide to read as your first book for 2010

message 115: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I'm reading Graceling and I don't think I'll finish it today so I guess that will be my first book of 2010.

A book journal???

message 117: by LynnB (new)

LynnB So sad I am on the west coast (though I wouldn't move for anything!) - I still have 6+ hours to go before I can start reading for 2010!!

message 118: by Bryce (new)

Bryce (yesitsbryce) | 4 comments Renee wrote: "It will be interesting to see how many books I can read in a year's time. I have never kept up with it before. I am a slow reader so I doubt I will make it to 144 but I will give it my best shot...."

and a good way to speed up your reading :)

message 119: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Well I did finish Graceling barely before 2009 ended. So I'll have to come up with something else.

Afsana (afsanaz) Lisa wrote: "Well I did finish Graceling barely before 2009 ended. So I'll have to come up with something else."

message 121: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) Mine will be Three Days to Dead, by Kelly Meding.

message 122: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C Mine will be Life of Pi by Yann Martel

message 123: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) Jennifer, that is a tough read. I read it a few years ago and while it was good, it did leave me thinking.

message 124: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Mine will be The Babe And The Baron. Its for another challenge--its a "reading royality" challenge where the books all have to have something to do with royality in their title--King, Queen, Duke, Duchess, Baron, Baroness etc. or with the paraphanalia of royality--crowns, septres, thrones etc.

message 125: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 01, 2010 11:44AM) (new)

Finished City of Bones by Cassandra Clare 1:30 in the morning. I didn't quite time it right to have a last book for 2009. But Good News. My 1st book is done for the year!

message 126: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) Congrats elyssa

We should have a hall of fame

message 127: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks =)

message 128: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) My first book is gonna be Fractured by Karin Slaughter.

message 129: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenvwrites) | 122 comments I started my first for the year. Body of Lies --- Iris Johansen at 2 am as I was still sort of awake at that hr.

message 131: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I just finished my first book, Rainwater, which is historical fiction. It's good to get going on this challenge!!

message 132: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) well done Lynn

Its going to take me a while to get my first book read as it is Under the Dome Which may ot have been the best idea as maybe should have read easy/normal sized books first month so can feel confident!!

message 133: by LynnB (new)

LynnB Afsana wrote: "Its going to take me a while to get my first book read as it is Under the Dome Which may ot have been the best idea as maybe should have read easy/normal sized book..."

LOL!! Under the Dome was the first book I started last night, but then I put it down for a bit and picked up Rainwater (which is a lot shorter!) so that I could put something down on my log. I'm somewhere around p. 390 on Under the Dome -- it's going to take quite a while before it's finished!!

message 134: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) You 2 with Under the Dome, just wait. All of a sudden the action picks up and it becomes really, really hard to put down. But I can see why you would not want to start with this one, 1100 pages is a daunting book, let alone the first one you want for a challenge. LOL

message 135: by Kim (new)

Kim I finished The girl who played with fire on New Years Eve- so my first book for 2010 will be the sequel- The girl who kicked the hornets nest. I haven't read too much yet- although I think I might have an early night and read a bit more.

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

1100 pages... Might be good to get it done and over with. Let us all know how the book is. I'm curious.

message 137: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm still reading 3 books and hoping to finish at least one of them soon. That is the problem with reading more than 1 book at a time.

message 138: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I am going to start Malicious Intent A Novel which was a December Group Read in another of my groups and I only got like 5 pages into the book before I got sick, so I will start over and make this my first 2010 book.

message 139: by [deleted user] (new)

I started reading my second book and should be done with it soon. I'm on a roll. Glad I've picked out interesting books to start off with.

Way to go Elyssa! Two books on the first day of the new year.

message 141: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm hoping! As long as the kids keep themselves busy with Christmas toys and go to bed on time, nicely. Then a glass of wine and time with a book. Ah, only in a perfect world!

message 142: by Kinga (new)

Kinga I know how I could totally cheat this.
Just read fluff. Romance, book about vampires, etc. etc.
But no, this year I am planning on catching up with some classics, Nobel prize winners, Booker prize winners, 1001 books to read before you die and all those newcomers that critics are raving about.

So I most likely won't reach 144 but I guess quality over quantity ;-)

message 143: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Well, I spend most of the day on a "Girl's day out" with my daughter and granddaughter. We went to JoAnne's, picked up some fabrics for new quilts, a couple of quilting magazinesa, quilting book and, oh yeah, batting for a quilt. Then we went to see Did you Hear About the Morgan's. Pretty good movie, and I did have fun. Then I came home and read. I'd already made dinner (it was homemade vegetable-beef soup) so I didn't have to stop to cook. But book 1 is now finished and put away. The Babe And The Baron is a very enjoyable Regency romance--and a re-read. But hey, I was still in the mood for light and fluffy when I got home. :o)

I agree! I collect books and have as many shelves filled as I can (I have a LONG way to go).

I am fascinated by the book and finding it hard to put down. I will definitely finish it today. I really enjoying it and highly recommend it. It does make you think.

I have a hard time digesting romance novels. They take longer than nonfiction to read. Although, I'm breaking through. Some fantasy fiction has been getting better (I am not talking of Twilight). It is a good idea to get some classics down. There are so many that I pretended to read in school. Now I have no idea what they are about.

message 147: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments I got 8 Books in 1, Jane Austen's Complete Novels Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, Lady Susan, and Love and Friendship from ebay--and plan on re-reading all my old fav's plus Lady Susan which I had never seen before at some time this year. Not sure when, but sometime. Maybe I'll treat myself to 1 a month, and make them last longer that way. aaahhh my, so many books, so little time.

message 148: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) I just finished my first book yesterday evening. I have 2 other books in the works, and I need to go to the library to pick up another audio.

Right now, I am re-listening to Rapture in Death by J.D. Robb. I love these books and in the absence of another audio, I thought I'd do this one next. I read Immortal in Death recently in November so I won't do that one again. Rapture in Death is the 4th one. I go through these books pretty fast. It may be a way I can make up some numbers. And yes, I do not skip and read the whole thing again. Often, I do hear something I missed or don't remember.

I'm going to try and pick up an audio from the library that's on my January read list, but I may end up getting a different one, thereby adding to my already overburdened list. But at least I have a lot to choose from.

message 149: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I finished Fractured last night and now am on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
