Romance Readers Reading Challenges discussion

This story was published serially, a new chapter at a time, via the author's email newsletter. Readers got to vote on several plot directions for the story to take after each chapter. The author would write the next chapter based on the most popular plot directions chosen by the readers.

I received the first two or three chapters of the story and then nothing else arrived. I don't remember the name of the author or anything else about the newsletter, other than it was the newsletter for a romance author. By the time I realized I was no longer receiving the story via a newsletter, my Trash email folder had automatically deleted all the old emails containing the two or three chapters that I've read.

The story opens with a single father and his young daughter doing some painting on their lake house. The daughter notices a car arrive at the house next door and takes off running through the trees to investigate, with the father chasing after her. The house was owned by an elderly lady who was friends with the father and his daughter. The heroine is the dead lady's relative who inherited the home. While moving in, the heroine's foot falls through a rotten board in the front porch and she is stuck and injured. She is rescued by the father and daughter. That's as far as I got with the story.
