MK (wisny) | 86 comments God's Bits of Wood
God's Bits of Wood by Ousmane Sembène

Can you add intro credit to the 1970 Anchor Books edition of God's Bits of Wood?

Inro by A. Adu Boahen

Translated by Francis Price

Also, there is no ISBN, but the Library of Congress Catalog Card Number is 75-133620

Sandra | 31050 comments That edition is in the database twice. Once with a cover & the other with the isbn.

Working on it.

And by-the-way we can't use the Library of Congress for numbers, as its not compatible with the database.

Sandra | 31050 comments This is the correct edition:

/book/show/2...

I'll have to refer it to the supers for merging, however, there is a chance they won't agree because of the colour of the cover. Even though it is the same cover. Numbers match etc.

MK (wisny) | 86 comments Thank you, Sandra.
Except the correct edition was the one I put in my request. (Not the title of the thread - the cover linked in the note.)

The one I'm reading is the 360 page Anchor Books copy,
published in 1970, withh the cover showing the raised black fist. It has no ISBN number in the copyright credits or back cover, only a Library Of Congress number

Sandra | 31050 comments The Anchor Books copy is the Doubleday book. It has the raised black fist and is published in 1970. It also has the same numbers on the front cover.

I checked several acceptable sources including WorldCat, Abebooks & Amazon.

Okay, I'm not sure what you're saying, but the link in your post #4 is not the edition in my hand. That linked book has fewer pages.

The book in post #1, the one with 360 pages, is the book that I just finished reading.

MK (wisny) | 86 comments If this is helpful to you, there are two 1970 editions in my library's state-wide database.

The one I read is this:

It looks like the one you are linking is this one:

The first one has 360 pages, no illustrations, including the Introduction I was requesting credit for in my initial post.

The second one has 333 pages, as does the one you're linking. It also indicates it has illustrations. That is not the edition I have in my hand, the first one, with 360 pages is the edition I have in my hand. It also does not indicate that it has the introduction I mentioned in my initial post.

Sandra | 31050 comments OK I'll have another look at it.

message 10: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31050 comments And unfortunately I didn't change the page count, which should have been 360. According to WorldCat, which is the go-to for librarians checking page counts & details, WorldCat is created by real life librarians.

In 1970 there was the Doubleday/Anchor Books/Garden City publication, in other words, the US Edition & there was the UK Edition which was Heinemann. I didn't even look at the Heinemann publications, knowing that your book was the Anchor one.

If you look at the covers of the Anchor Books, apart from the colours you'll see that they are exactly the same, including the A729 in the top left corner & the $1.95 in the top right, both state an introduction by A. Abu Boahen.

I've added the translator & A.A Boahen to the one you requested.

MK (wisny) | 86 comments Yes, I see all that. The one I linked in the first post had the correct cover art, price, page count, publication date, publisher, and all the rest.

All it was missing was the Intro and translation credits.

message 12: by MK (new) - rated it 5 stars

MK (wisny) | 86 comments There is in fact a 333-page count edition from 1970, It is in the catalog I linked above. MaineCat is part of WorldCat.

I didn't need to do combine, merge, or edit the 333 page edition from 1970, I only needed you to edit the 360 page edition from 1970.

I'm not sure what all you all did behind the scenes, but now when you click on All Editions, the only two that come up are the two you linked above. None of the other language editions come up.

message 13: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31050 comments That's because they need to be separated for the supers to judge whether it is 2 editions or just one. When they decide they will be recombined.

MK (wisny) | 86 comments All right, thankyou.
