Welcome to NBRC. Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself. We value our members and look forward to discussing books and meeting others who share our love of reading. Take some time to look around and enjoy. To see and understand how this group works, check out our How NBRC Works; Our Group in a Nutshell post by CLICKING HERE . We've attempted to create an atmosphere that's warm, welcoming, and fun. Hopefully we've succeeded. While we may lay the ground work for the group, we know it's our members who truly make this group Rock. So thanks everyone for joining the group. :)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments Grargh. That favorite book question literally had me gasping. ONE book? No way I could possibly answer that, but I do have a 'Beloved Faves Multi Genre' shelf set up in my profile that'll give you a loooot of my faves. ;)

Genre... again there's a lot of em, but I'd say I read the most books in the Paranormal Urban category. Its just escapism at its finest.

Fave Author... uuuum... I'm gonna go with John Irving, I think. Michael Chabon and Alice Hoffman are solid contenders, though. I have el truckload of writers that I follow from a bunch of genres.

Fave food... gonna say anything involving mocha, or a chocolate coffee combo. Chocolate covered coffee beans are dangerously addictive. Peanut butter filled pretzels are a nice change of pace, though.

If I could live anywhere in the world it would be... Golgotham.

Pet is Beatrix (named after Beatrix Potter), a 17 lb insanely fluffy Maine Coone cat.

I know I'm a book nut because... I've been a voracious nut for the written word since age 3 1/2, and I literally cannot even imagine how teensy tiny and drab my life would be if it weren't for the worlds of imagination in books.

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Hi, Mike. Not sure what happened to your original post, but I can confirm it was in this thread. I believe there is a gremlin in the system that deletes things because I've had posts mysteriously disappear that have been posted as well. I saw you post while on the phone so I didn't respond. I have a tendency to delete things when I try to respond so I don't do so with the phone any more. I swear I had nothing to do with yours disappearing. Didn't you mention you're an author?

Anywho, Welcome to the group.

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments Hi, Gar! You lucky duck! I can't imagine having a whole family (and decades worth of their books) to borrow from. Very cool to have a lit loving family. I haven't read Camus since college, and I loved it then. Definitely gonna have to dust off 'the stranger' and give it another read. ;)

Welcome everyone!

We currently have a team challenge called a "Wheel-A-Thon" which will continue for about another 3 weeks. If you can commit to read a book a week and would like to join we do have some space for new players.
You can find out more and sign up here: /topic/show/...

Woot! Huge thanks for the heads up, Karen... what a fun and twisty challenge! Can't wait! Hoping I can finish out this one with you guys (and I've been logging my books for the GR annual challenge, so I can do it retroactively for my team if that's allowed), and then join in at the beginning the next time you do a Wheel-a-Thon. How often do ya'll run this particular challenge?

No probs Rachel! I saw your sign-up, I should be able to let you know tomorrow about a vacant spot on a team :)

We have been doing a 6-8 week team challenge a few times a year. This year we did a battleship, and then a guess-who type challenge, and this is the latest one. Probably the next one will start September/October ; we may do wheelathon again or something different (we have a few ideas in the pipeline!)

Yay! I've got no idea what manner of goodness those challenges might be, but I'm just tickled to have found a group that does more elaborate and challenging games than read along. I love my other groups, but your elaborately thought out challenges are thrilling. Oh, and if there's a spot for me at the tail end of this one, lovely.. but don't make yourself crazy trying to work me into the mix if there's not. I'll just pick up with the next challenge. ;)

edit: totally off topic, but do you guys recommend a particular way (software/spreadsheet/something?) to 'track' and post reminders to yourself for upcoming challenges? You seem like the group to ask, for sure. I'm LOVING all my new GR buddies and activities, but worried I'll let things slip thru the cracks if I'm not organized about it.
