Oh, and Paul Valéry
The French poet and author Paul Valéry was nominated a staggering 12 times for the Nobel Prize in literature between 1930 and 1945. The Swedish Academy, having finally accepted modernist poetry, planned to name him the 1945 winner. However, he died in July, and Gabriela Mistral was named the laureate.

Emma Viskic - Resurrection Bay
P.D. Viner - The Last Winter of Dani Lancing
Karen Viggers - The Grass Castle
Joanne van Os - Ronan's Echo
I enjoyed reading both Ronan's Echo and Resurrection Bay and would recommend them to anyone looking for a V author in a challenge.

Also, please add Stephen Vizinczey who is 85 this year.
Born in Hungary in 1933, Vizinczey's first published works were poems which appeared in George Lukacs's Budapest magazine Forum in 1949, at age 16. He studied under Lukacs at the University of Budapest and graduated from the city's Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in 1956. At that time, he wrote two plays -The Last Word, and Mama - which were banned by the Hungarian Communist regime. He took part in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, and after a short stay in Italy, ended up in Canada, although he could only speak only 50 words of English, and eventually became a Canadian citizen, having learned English whilst writing scripts for Canada's National Film Board and the CBC. He edited Canada's short-lived literary magazine, Exchange. In 1966 he moved to London. Vizinczey cites his literary ideals as Pushkin, Gogol, Dostoevsky, Balzac, Stendhal and Kleist. His best-known works are the novels In Praise of Older Women (1965) and An Innocent Millionaire (1983).
