206. MFSB - Mother, father, sister and/or brother in song titles. - KJS
207. There Goes The Neighbourhood! - an act from your home town (Straightforward in you live in a city or large town. If you live in Nowheresville, a band formed in a town/city you go to regularly, and within a reasonable driving distance, say 30 minutes in the UK. Anyone in say the Scottish highlands or rural Ireland can have more leeway on that. Say where they're from in your nom post) - Tim
208. 'Sing a song song' - Songs that feature the word 'song' in the title - theDuke
209. "A Diamond In The Mouth Of A Corpse" - a song that you adore from a band/singer/act that you despise. - Tech
210. It's My Party - any song with the word PARTY in the title - Val

It'll be a test for sure. Probably easier if your despised person is for a reason besides music (say, if anyone still admits to loving a lostprophets song despite the evil things the singer got up to).

Maybe this one could have a mirror; a corpse in the mouth of a diamond, being a song you detest by an artist you love. ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion Tim. There is a song by them that I have always liked. It might get an airing here.

sorry val, but if anyone nominates anything by that band featuring the baby rapist, i will withdraw participation and the nomination! i certainly won't listen or look at anything connected with that subhuman piece of shit!

Helen The Melon | 3378 comments Yeh, I'm going to struggle with tech's theme too. And Sera's also, I have no idea what album/single I bought first, cannot remember stuff like that at all.

Craig White | 6727 comments how's it hard? i loathe pink floyd, but i've got a soft spot for 'shite on you crazy diamond' - ub40? 'food for thought' - queen? 'don't stop me now' - the who? baba o'riley' - the jam? 'that's entertainment!' - springsteen?............ok, i'll get back to you on springsteen! 's no hard, it's easy!

message 212: by Sera69 (last edited Jan 14, 2019 08:40AM) (new)

Sera69 | 1886 comments It's incredibly sad that what Watkins did reflects on the rest of the band. He was only 1/5th of lostprophets, and for at least the first two albums there is no stain on their production. F@ck him to hell for the evil shit he is and ruining some good listening memories. Pardon my French.

Musically, I'm hard pushed to think of anyone I loathe. Even Ed Sheeran is more to do with his omnipresence and the inane chart rules governing streaming which allowed him to monopolise the top ten in the singles.

Never heard of the Lost Prophets myself, or this Watkins guy, i thought folks were talking about the former glam rocking, wig wearing one, who's name shall not be mentioned!

Justin Beiber, per chance? Mind you everything he has done, is shite!

theDuke | 6447 comments Some good themes there folks, plenty to get my thinking cap on.

Was wondering if Tech's and Lez's related themes could be place consecutively, if Val doesn't mind swapping places with Lez. Or would folks prefer a week's break in between to find suitable noms?

I can think of something for Tech's theme..but Lez's theme will take a bit more pondering on. No probs with Sera's theme, I know what my first ever album purchase was, I still own it today. But dare i admit what it is?! :)

There's obviously no point in my nominating it if posters feel so strongly. I don't know anything about the band or its members. I only know that one song and I like it - sorry.

But it would be okay to nominate Gary Glitter in the later theme if that happens to be the first single you bought? Double standard?

I don't like any form of restrictions being placed on nominations. If you don't like the artist's history then don't vote for it. But telling anyone what they can't nominate is anathema to me.

message 223: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments that's why i asked the above question, val, i don't care for double standards. i didn't mean to be hostile, but if you were to make yourself aware of watkins' crimes, you'd maybe see why the reaction is so extreme - if given the opportunity i would disembowel him with my bare hands!
you're right though, who am i to tell folk what to nominate (or not), and again, that's why i asked the above question. if we set a pre-agreed standard this might help avoid such ugly controversies.

message 224: by theDuke (last edited Jan 15, 2019 01:12AM) (new)

theDuke | 6447 comments I'm neutral on this matter, so happy to go whatever the majority favours. But i'll just say that, this is a music thread, and it's the music i'm solely interested in, so perhaps folks could just concentrate solely on the artist's music, and not focus on what they got upto in their private lives. There have been many musicians shamed in the past, that were less than graceful 'behind the scenes' as it were, take George Michael & Michael Jackson for eg? Both lead dubious private lives..and yet they are still respected for their contibution to music. And Wacko Jacko was no saint was he?!

Crimes against children will always be a powerfully emotive topic to deal with..but then so is sexism, racism, murder, inequality, genocide, homophobia, disabilitism..and so on....where does one draw the line?

Whichever is easiest or most appealing to you, Lez. But for avoidance of chicanery we'll keep it to either where you were born and raised, or where you now live..... so any multitude of places passed through can be ignored!

Thank goodness for that Tim! I was born in Reading...but i only 'lived' for the first 4 years of my life, therefor know snaffu about Reading, or bands that came from there!

Since then, it's been various places around Wales. But i've found a local band near to where i live now, so i'm sticking with them! :)

theDuke | 6447 comments I think we'll start a new group soon, cos i've lost track of where we are with the current crop of noms, unless folks are happy to adopt Spacepig's idea to just allow folks to nom whenever thay wish. Obviously if we opt to do it that way, then a little sensibility should be observed, folks could space their noms out appropriately, by checking when they placed their last one.

Otherwise, i'll be starting a new group in a coupla weeks or so. Either way suits me fine.
