The person themselves added the quotes. That is usually a sign of non-notability.
I agree, but given that he is a politician I'd appreciate an official ruling on this so that if we come across others later, we know where we're at :)

Generally, a person is notable if they have been the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject.
That's pretty much all I'd found, which was why I wasn't sure how notable he was :) So any web presence makes the notablity grade, or is it specific sites, like that one?

OK. Out of interest, do we have a list of "reliable sources" in the way of the acceptable-sources for covers list? I don't think we do. Would one be useful?

We would usually accept a Wikipedia page as proof of notability as well.
