Never Let You Go by Chevy Stevens

Thank you to Net Galley, the publishers and the author for an ARC copy for review.

Eleven years ago, Lindsey Nash escaped into the night with her young daughter and left an abusive relationship. Her ex-husband, Andrew, was sent to jail and Lindsey started over with a new life.

Now, Lindsey is older and wiser, with her own business and a teenage daughter who needs her more than ever. When Andrew is finally released from prison, Lindsey believes she has cut all ties and left the past behind her. But she gets the sense that someone is watching her, tracking her every move. Her new boyfriend is threatened. Her home is invaded, and her daughter is shadowed. Lindsey is convinced it’s her ex-husband, even though he claims he’s a different person. But has he really changed? Is the one who wants her dead closer to home than she thought?

With Never Let You Go, Chevy Stevens delivers a chilling, twisting thriller that crackles with suspense as it explores the darkest heart of love and obsession.

The book opens with Lindsey Nash, a young woman married to an abuser, Andrew. They have a small daughter and they are in Mexico on vacation. This chapter is a perfect way for Chevy Stevens to showcase an example of Andrew's manipulation and abuse of Lindsey.

From then on, we get Lindsey and Sophie's POV with the narrative jumping between past and future, although a personal hate when stories go past and present too much, but understandable here.

A powerful story and I am sure a common one, slow burning, gripping, though provoking tense thriller, that really does keep you guessing, and really full of some surprising shocks.

My first book from this author, and I believe some of her other books are even more gripping.

Another author to look out for.

Four stars from me. Especially as it keeps you guessing and then hits you !

The Missing Ones (Detective Lottie Parker, #1) by Patricia Gibney

Thank you to Net Galley, the author and to one of my favourite publishers Bookouture...

The 1970's :-The hole they dug was not deep. A white flour bag encased the little body. Three small faces watched from the window, eyes black with terror.

The child in the middle spoke without turning his head. ‘I wonder which one of us will be next?’

Now present day :-When a woman’s body is discovered in a cathedral and hours later a young man is found hanging from a tree outside his home, Detective Lottie Parker is called in to lead the investigation. Both bodies have the same distinctive tattoo clumsily inscribed on their legs. It’s clear the pair are connected, but how?

The trail leads Lottie to St Angela’s, a former children’s home, with a dark connection to her own family history. Suddenly the case just got personal.

As Lottie begins to link the current victims to unsolved murders decades old, two teenage boys go missing. She must close in on the killer before they strike again, but in doing so is she putting her own children in terrifying danger?

Lottie is about to come face to face with a twisted soul who has a very warped idea of justice.

This is a powerful, in fact an amazing debut author from Patricia Gibney, with great pace, lots of great characters, many not so nice, a really great main character in Lottie Parker, a down to earth Detective recovering from the death of her husband...

I am sure the author has put many of her own feelings into this book with DI Lottie Parker, as the author sadly lost her husband and starting to write this her debut author.

This I believe gave this book so much in depth character and thoughts of Lottie Parker, and also to Doyle..and their really great relationship.

This story, or should I say stories keep at a great pace and the last few chapters are at a rollercoaster pace with tension and suspense.

Lots of red herrings to a put I kept guessing wrong and differently in each chapter.

A great read for debut author, a great book full stop !

A point should be made for this author, set the atmosphere of a little quite Irish town in the winter perfectly.

I hope writing this book has helped the author recover from the tragedy of the death of her husband, and realises that she has a talent for writing a great book, and I look forward to number 2 !

Five stars

Last Breath (Detective Erika Foster, #4) by Robert Bryndza

Thank you so much to Net Galley, the publishers and the author Robert Bryndza.

Number 4 in the series, and I think the best, and the fastest paced of all the books in the series.

A good chance that the book being only 281 pages helped with the pace, straight into the gripping story.

Detective Erika Foster is back in Last Breath and Bryndza delivers another exciting crime thriller!

When the tortured body of a young woman is found in a dumpster, her eyes swollen shut and her clothes soaked with blood, Detective Erika Foster is one of the first at the crime scene. The trouble is, this time, it’s not her case!

While she fights to secure her place on the investigation team, Erika can’t help but get involved and quickly finds a link to the unsolved murder of a woman four months earlier. Dumped in a similar location, both women have identical wounds – a fatal incision to their femoral artery.

Stalking his victims online, the killer is preying on young pretty women using a fake identity. How will Erika catch a murderer who doesn’t seem to exist? Will I use Facebook the same after this book !

Then another girl is abducted while waiting for a date. Erika and her team must get to her before she becomes another dead victim, and, come face to face with a terrifyingly sadistic individual.

Gripping, tense and impossible to put down, Last Breath will have you on the edge of your seat, racing to the final dramatic page.

I have really enjoyed Erika’s character development throughout this series and in Last Breath, we see a new side to Erika, one that shows her in, perhaps, a more vulnerable light, while still being determined, flawed and likeable –

Another great aspect of this book is the relationship between Erika and Peterson, will grows throughout the book, and also adds a chance for the author to add a little humour in the story.

The strength of the team, including Moss, Crane and Dave.

So good to read the books in order, as you get to known the characters as we go through each book.

Loved this book, and read the last 30% in one evening as I just could not put the book down.

This series I do highly recommend.

Next to Angela Marson's and another great lead character !!

This is the sixth collection of short stories that the TV series "Grantchester" is based on and would appeal to lovers of cozy crime, but I recommend starting with the first series Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death so you get to know all the characters.

Maureen Carden | 363 comments NetGalley has listed a book by one of my favorite authors. Of course I put in for it, but is there any path for begging for it? I'm not too proud to admit I would beg and promise my first born even though at 26 he's be PITA to give away. That mind of their own thing.

Maureen, are you on twitter? Perfect place to beg by tweeting (grovelling?) about the book to the author & publisher.
