Since it has been over 7 days, Kathaleeya is being skipped. That means Dee - you get to read the last Male POV book.

Sorry to hear about your health issue, Dee. Glad that you are doing better!
Dee wrote: "sorry - I had a brief overnight in the hospital - all good - going to try and finish up today ;)"
Sorry to hear that, Dee. Hope all is well. Let us know how it goes. :)

Sorry you are sick, Grace. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for letting us know about the book. At least you will have plenty of time to read, right? I hope it is a good one. :)

Debi is up next with another runner up book. I'll send her a pm.

Oooh, looks like I'm next!
Even though I haven't been reading, I've carried a book (tried different ones too) / my Kobo with me all the time but just couldn't make the effort to read! I just don't know what really catches my fancy... well, at least, award nominee will give me a list to work from! yay, this may get me back on my reading :)
How is everybody?!
Am much better (2nd trimester now) so looking forward to get back into all things bookish ;)
Lyn, I can't thank you enough for keeping things rolling!

So excited to see you post here. You have been missed. The second trimester is usually better, and I hope it is for you. :) Hope my limping along has helped keep things somewhat up to date. :)

I didn't care for the book I chose but mostly due to having lost my taste for the genre.
I will PM Tien.
Thanks for the PM, Debi.
I'm going to start reading Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth as soon as I put my phone away ;)
It was nominated as Best Fantasy novel in last year's Aurealis.

Sorry for taking my time :)
I realised after a couple of days that there was no way I was going to finish reading Bitter Greens (quite chunky and slow beginning) so I changed to State of Wonder by Ann Patchett. informed me that it's been nominated & listed for a number of awards but hasn't actually won anything.
I've just finished it so it's Dionisia's turn. I'll PM her now.

Thanks, Tien. We look forward to Dionisia's selection. I guess I should get my award winner picked as I will be up after her.

The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman

sorry took me so long, Dee, only just saw your Q...
I didn't place any limitation / boundaries on what type of awards so anything counts :)

Sorry for the delay, folks. I have been gone for a week. My book for Award winner is The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea by Sebastian Junger, which I have been wanting to read for a while. It won the PEN New England award for non-fiction in 2007 and the ALA Alex Award in 1998. I am already halfway finished and should finish in the next day or two.
Oh, I know the feeling.....and it is not like I don't have other things to read in the meantime....

Finished my book The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea last night. Great book, very readable. Lots of suspense and Junger has a great writing style. So tragic, though.
Dee, you're up!

As you know, the game of hopscotch requires that you play individually, to go in order of the numbers, if you touch the line (etc) you’re out of the game and the next person is up. This is a little bit hard to simulate so instead we are going to play / read in a relay type of game.
description
One for Sorrow,
Two for Joy,
Three for a Girl,
Four for a Boy,
Five for Silver,
Six for Gold,
Seven for a Secret Never to be Told,
Eight for a Wish,
Home for a Kiss!
Let’s race HOME…
Qualified books will be:
1 sad book (you’d have to confess to shedding tears or using up a whole box of tissues)
2 funny books (those humorous ones that make you laughed out loud)
3 female MC books (one POV only)
4 male MC books (one POV only)
5 award nominated books (any awards but cannot be the winning books and it cannot have won any awards)
6 award winning books
7 under-rated books (books with less than 500 ratings BUT not a recent release –ie. books must have been released for more than 6 months at time of reading)
8 new release books (2014 publication only)
HOME (with a total of 36 books read)
How to:
The easiest way to explain will be by example:
1st reader will read 1 sad book (eg. The Notebook etc)
When finished reading, post completed read on the thread to tag the next reader
2nd reader will read 1 funny book (eg. Me Talk Pretty One Day etc)
When finished reading, post completed read on the thread to tag the next reader
3rd reader will read 1 funny book (eg. Bridget Jones Diary etc)
When finished reading, post completed read on the thread to tag the next reader
4th reader will read 1 book with female MC (eg. Divergent etc)
…
36th reader will read the final book which is a new release (eg. The Invention of Wings etc)
And… we’re home!
1. Express your interest here by 7th Feb
2. If there are more than 10 people then I’ll divide into 2 teams and we can race too ;) Otherwise, it’d be fun just to play along as we won’t know when we’ll be tagged exactly
3. The order of reader will be determined by random drawing (which I will do around 7th Feb)
4. Short story, novellas, and picture books excluded* Short story anthologies will be accepted as long as they meed the 200 page minimum.
5. The plan is for this challenge to be completed by 31 May 2014
6. If above (5) is achieved, each participant (if a ScatterShelves participant) will receive 2 additional skips (one Shelf and one Category)
7. Once it is your turn, you have 5 days to pick and list your book on the thread.
8. Please try to read your book within a weeks time. If you are having problems or need to change your book, post here so that I can keep track. If you have not posted or finished your book within 7 days, you will be skipped and the next person on the list will read your slot.
Simple, right?! So who’s in?!
*Clarification: for this challenge, anything 200 pages and over is 'full novel'
