Zaz | 2969 comments Clare > the rule is only for opening new threads. You can post the ones for all your January books (not for weeks 1 to 4). And if threads are opened for books you'll read later, you can join them, of course!

The rule is here because we want discussions all the year and not 52 threads x number of members posted all in January. We check every new thread posted to add the cover or author, if necessary, so 2-3 at the same time is manageable :)

I hope it helps!

Joy | 100 comments Zaz, to make certain I am clear (because I was also confused on this one) - I can open a thread for any book I am reading, but not on ones I am planning to read more than three weeks away. Yes?

Zaz | 2969 comments Joy > yes, your next 3-4 books. The current threads posted are for the January books (see the group header and the announcement thread, they are here to help!) :)

Francesca (eufrosine85) | 67 comments Hello everyone!
I am Francesca, I live in France and I am Italian.
I did the 2015 challenge but since I don't read fast, I couldn't finish it!
My goal for the 2016 challenge is to do better than in 2015... let say 30/52 books =)
I don't respect the week order but I jump from a week to another following what is inspiring me at the moment (and also considering which book on my shelves I didn't read yet!).
I read every kind of books and I hope this group will help me to discover new authors!!!
I like to read books in the original language when it is possible.
I am looking forward to exchange with you =)

Francesca (eufrosine85) | 67 comments Hello again,
just a few questions about how it works for 2016.

If I understood well, this year we will have to "declare" the book of the week in the "Progress Posts" topic and aswer the question and at the same time create a topic on the book in the A-Z session. Is this correct?

Thank you for your asnwer.

message 106: by Zaz (last edited Dec 17, 2015 09:19AM) (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments A-Z are for discussing the books (you'll post the ones you'll read in the following weeks). The content is the same than last year, but they are grouped by title and not categories/weeks.

Progress Posts are to collect all the books read for a category and have some brainstorming about why we chose the books, etc. It will be better to post the book just before starting it, as the questions are designed as "before reading", but doing it after or during is not a problem :)

Hi everyone, I'm Sara :) I've been doing a different group's challenge (SRC group), but after 3 weeks with it, and 19 books read, I'm utterly exhausted lol. I love the concept of that group but not the pace. I'm very happy to see that it looks like this group is very similar (task orientated), but much more laid back in the amount of books we're expected to read. 1 book a week sounds reeeaally good right now lol!

I'm 37 years old, a Michigander, and I love to read just about everything-I have very eclectic reading tastes!

edit: I have one question-I'm a bit confused by the A-Z section, are we supposed to be doing the weekly tasks alphabetically or something? I'm not understanding how that section ties into the 52 week challenge? Could someone clarify? Thanks!

message 110: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments A-Z are "books discussions", organized by "title of the book" (we want to avoid duplicates, so several folders are better than a big one). You can add there the books you'll read for the challenge in January if nobody had already posted them. Otherwise, creating your plan is the way to manage your challenge, and you can read the books in the order you prefer :)

Sandra (tabiti) | 2 comments Hello.
My name is Sandra and I’m from Germany.
This is the first time I joined a group on GR. I made the Popsugar Reading Challenge on my own (still 1.5 books left to read), but I thought it would be more fun to do the next challenge in this group.
I’m a bit stuck in my “comfort zone” and this challenge will be a good chance for me to read some of the books I wanted to read for some time but didn’t and to discover new authors.

message 113: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Sara, you have definitely got the correct impression about our little group! We are all friendly and laid back and although we support each other & cheer each other on when we finish a challenge we also don't care one bit if someone doesn't finish. It's all supposed to be fun and I think our group understands & values that more than any other group I've ever been a part of on the Internet. This is certainly no police state. It's a wonderful group. :)

I enjoy mystery, some young adult, comedy, and historical fiction, as well as biographies.

Hi Derek, we can be new together :) I took a peek at your profile and very cool about being a published music composer! My 11 year old daughter plays piano and violin, and she drives her instructors batty because she'd rather be writing the music than actually playing lol. At this point she wants to be an elementary music teacher, but I can see her doing something with composing or maybe orchestra down the road. She lives and breathes music :)

message 116: by Abigale (new)

Abigale (ladyabigale) Hello all! I'm Abigale and this is my first challenge on 카지노싸이트! I work at my public library in Ohio so I should have no excuses!!
I love historical fiction, crime mysteries, autobiographies, and fantasy (:

message 117: by Alina (new)

Alina | 3 comments Hi! I am Alina. I am from Pakistan. Firstly, I want to appreciate the idea of this group as we all feel monotonous at some point of our reading and this group is offering diversity in reading choices. I have a lot on my TBR shelf but more or less they are of same genres. Plus a book per week is so easy to read especially considering tough daily schedule.

message 118: by Aly (new)

Aly (studyingon) | 18 comments Hi everyone! I'm Ali, and I'm a fairly new book blogger! I found this challenge and thought it would be really fun and encourage me to read more this year! My favorite genres include fantasy, historical fiction, literary fiction, young adult, and science fiction.

I read 90+ books this year (11 more days left of 2015!), and hope to make it over 100 next year.

message 119: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3241 comments Hi, I'm Rachel and I live in Canada. I work with young adults who have special needs. I used to be a huge reader but I found that the combination of university, then college, then full-time work kind of killed it for me. I did the PopSugar challenge last year and loved it because it really forced me to get back into reading, and I found a lot of great books I might not have tried otherwise. I was planning on doing the PopSugar challenge again but I liked the list for this one a lot better.

Imane (booksaccino) Hello, I'm Imane. I live in Morocco and I've always wanted to participate in a "themed" reading challenge or I don't know what they're called but I've only done the "how-many-books-you've-read" reading challenges so ...
I've stumbled upon this challenge on Twitter and I thought it was so great that I decided to give it a go. I read mostly YA and Classics but I'm trying to discover new genres like Historical Fiction and Fantasy.
I hope I can manage one book per week with my very busy schedule (medschool, heh). Well I will try my best.
And now I will go and try to discover the group a bit. I've also put my list together and I'm going to post my plan for 2016. Really looking forward to next year's challenge !

Alice-Elizabeth (Prolific Reader Alice) (marriedtobooks44) | 2 comments Hey everyone! I'm Alice from England. I stumbled onto this group after I saw it in the groups section here on 카지노싸이트! I basically read anything either for my Kindle (who doesn't love freebies like book freebies?) and for my collapsing bookshelves in my bedroom. Feel free to add me. I'm not too sure what I am going to do for my challenge here but on another one, I'm planning to read 100 books in 2016. 50 on my Kindle, 50 in printed paperback/hardback editions. :)

Melinda (minna17) Hi everyone! I'm Mel from Australia. I found this challenge through someone I follow on 카지노싸이트 and thought it looks like a fun challenge and decided that I would participate for 2016, even though I had decided not to do any challenges this year. I mainly read YA Fantasy so I am looking forward to expanding my horizons with this challenge.

message 129: by Karen (new)

Karen (winterscomin) | 41 comments Hi! I'm Karen from Australia. Basically all the same things as Melinda just said above me except I read Adult fantasy as well as some YA and I honestly don't even want to broaden my horizons that much in terms of genres, I just want to try read a lot more books! :)

I want to challenge myself for 2016 and get back on track. Nice to meet you all! <3

message 131: by Tia (new)

Tia | 128 comments Hi All! I am Tia from India, currently living in the United States (in the beautiful pacific northwest). I stumbled upon the 2015 reading challenge a few days back and found it super interesting. I wanted to try out a 카지노싸이트 challenge in 2016 (this is my first one) so this was a great find. I used to read a lot back in the day but not so much any longer. Hoping to use this challenge to motivate myself to read more.
My current favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, children's books and classics. Nice to meet you all!

message 132: by Saara (new)

Saara (lamiena) | 86 comments Hullo. :) Saara from Finland. I participated in the 2015 challenge with very poor success, and hope that next year will go at least a little bit better. I like to think I read a fairly wide variety, but my favourites tend to fall in the categories of fantasy, science fiction and classics. More or less trashy regency romances are a total guilty pleasure / palate cleanser, so I'll take recommendations on that front.

message 133: by Sia (new)

Sia | 2 comments Hi! I'm Sia from Russia. I've recently registered on goodreads and it's the first group I'm joining. The challenge looks like fun and I hope to complete it.
I read... well anything really, I can't imagine myself sticking to only a couple of genres.
Nice to meet you all.

message 134: by Lucia (new)

Lucia (aluithe) | 2 comments Hi I'm Lucia from Italy
I'm really glad I found this group in time for the 2016 challenge.
What I like to read usually depends on my mood, but I find myself enjoying sci-fi and fantasy most of the time.
I'm a very big procrastinator, so I hope this challenge will push me to read more than this year (I haven't even reached my 40 books goal).

message 135: by Chelle (new)

Chelle Hello everyone. I'm Rochelle, from Ontario, Canada. I'm very much into historical fiction, and I read a bit of magical realism, fairy-tale/mythology, gothic romance, mystery/thriller, and some contemporary fiction... Not so into science fiction, horror, or spy/detective type stuff.

I was a part of the 2015 group. When I started a new job in February I kind of fell off the reading bandwagon until July. I've been trying to get caught up on my 2015 challenge but will not quite be able to fill all the categories this year. A few of the books I read didn't fit into any of my remaining categories either. I'm looking forward to trying again in the 2016 challenge!

It's difficult to follow the weeks in order when I'm getting most of my books from the library, so I'm really looking forward to the new A-Z discussions, I think it will be easier for me to participate. :)

message 137: by Carys (new)

Carys (cvsuthie) Hi guys! I just recently joined the group and I am looking forward to doing as much of the 2016 challenge as I can. Historical fiction and fantasy are my favorite genres (usually I prefer YA, but I have been pleasantly surprised by adult books before). The idea of this challenge really appeals to me, but I'd like some advice on how to plan your books for each week of the challenge. If anybody has some tips, please let me know! I'm so excited to do this!

Carys (cvsuthie) Emm the Elf wrote: "Welcome! Cece, we've got a real helpful group here and I'm sure many of them would love to help you with your list dilemma. What are you struggling with most?"

I guess just the whole thing in general. I don't usually plan my books before I read them or set a monthly TBR or anything like that - I usually just pick up whatever's lying around and appeals to me - so the whole idea of it is very new to me. How would you suggest going about the different challenges (i.e. is it easier to do the easier challenges first, go out of order, etc?)

message 140: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments I see what you're getting at... I think. ;)

The idea behind the whole challenge is to challenge yourself. For some people, reading the list in order isn't feasible so they jump around. Others like the added challenge of reading in order. Either is fine.

Some people pick long books for their challenge topics. Others pick shorter books. Some like children's books and YA books, others like to read weightier classics and complex literature. Either is fine there too.

The point is that you've really got to find a niche that works for you because everyone's challenge is different.

When it comes to mapping out your books, that isn't a requirement and some people just don't. Some members read what they like and then pick a topic that fits the book they just read. Or they search for a book that matches a topic as they go. Or maybe they did make a plan but they don't actually follow it and end up making it up as they go along. That was me in 2015. I was all over the place. ;)

If you don't like having a plan for your books, you can fly by the seat of your pants and we'll still be here cheering you on! :)

If you do decide to create a plan for your reads before-hand though, the easiest and probably most used method is to go through your to-read shelf and match books you already want to read to the tasks. If you get stuck on a particular task (can't find a book), we have this suggestion thread with suggestions for each week or you can use the recommendations thread to ask for recommendations. As I said, this is a very helpful group and I'm confident that our members would be all too happy to make recommendations and help you find the perfect book.

I hope that helped! If not... keep asking and I'll keep trying to find a solution for you! :)

Jenna ✨DNF Queen✨Here, Sometimes... (jennabgemini) | 243 comments Hi everybody! I've just joined and I'm so excited to do this challenge!
I did a basic GR challenge in 2015 based strictly on numbers of books and when looking back through it, I realized I really need to branch out my genres and start digging into my enormous TBR! I average around 200 books per year - that I record, that is - but I know I could easily push myself further. I can't think of any genres I dislike, but I tend to get stuck in one genre and read a ton of one type of thing at a time. I gravitate toward Historical fiction, Historical nonfiction (especially the Civil War), Natural History, and Romance (mostly m/m). I'm really looking forward to expanding my reading horizons in 2016 and hope this challenge will help me do that! This looks like a great bunch of folks and I look forward to some stimulating discussions!

message 143: by Nathaly (new)

Nathaly (nathalyks) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Nathaly (pronounced Natalie) and I currently live in California. 2016 is the first year where I actually participate in a year-long challenge like this one and I'm really looking forward to it!! While I have always loved reading since I was a kid, I didn't become a passionate reader until 2015 and since then I have been reading as much as I can. I like to read any genre in young adult fiction, but I tend to lean towards fantasy and historical fiction in YA books. I also like to read certain genres in adult fiction and I always like to read any type of children's books or middle grade.
I'd like to try new things for 2016 and I hope this challenge will be fun for me and help me go through my TBR!

Jenna ✨DNF Queen✨Here, Sometimes... (jennabgemini) | 243 comments Question - are there any genre restrictions? I don't want to blow anything up by adding some erotic titles to my list... O_o

message 145: by Michelle (last edited Dec 26, 2015 05:32PM) (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Absolutely no restrictions, BadKitty. If you're participating in discussions (and we hope you will) it would be appreciated if you kept it PG-13 because our members are of all ages but... you're more than welcome to read whatever you like!

The way I see it, if the book is listed on GoodReads then our younger members have access to it. No need to censor titles and covers they could easily stumble upon themselves. *shrug*

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1729 comments Hello everyone,

I am for Ontario, Canada. I participated in last years pop sugar challenge with this group. It was fun, with so many good books to add to my TBR from everyone's lists.

I never had a TBR list before last January. It has now grown to over 300 because of last years challenge.

I am sure this year will be just as great with more people to meet, books to discuss and an ever enlarging TBR list.

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) | -7 comments Hi, I'm Elise from Sydney, Australia, and yes, I am a book addict!
Super keen to direct my reading a bit more this year rather than floating randomly from book to book...and ending up with a huge "to-read" bookshelf in my mind!
I haven't used 카지노싸이트 for much more than listing my "read" books. I think I follow the idea of the discussion boards ok, and am looking forward to hearing other people's thoughts.

I have put together my reading plan ... but what do I do with it? Do I add all these books to a bookshelf on my profile, setting them as "to be read"? I would also like to post my reading plan in the 2016 reading plan section - how do I make the titles link to the titles in the goodreads library?

Sorry...rookie!!!
TIA :)
Elise

message 149: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Yes, Elise, a reading-challenge shelf is a good idea to have all your 52 books in the same list (as to read), you could also use it during the year to track your progress with the challenge bar on the group homepage (normally available on January 1, if they don't remove it with the next 카지노싸이트 update).

To add links to books and authors to your plan, you need to be on a computer or a browser on mobile devices (not apps). On the right corner above the comment box, you'll see a "add book/author" link, you just click on it, enter the name of your book in the search bar and, when you find it, click on "add" :)
