Lily (joy1) | 749 comments Great discussion today. Book was "liked" and had been read by every one present. One of us had listened to the Audible recording while traveling. Several agreed would not necessarily selected for self (not sports enthusiasts) but were glad to have read it.

Liked the ways Brown could create suspense, even if one "knew" how the story would conclude. Also, all the information gleaned from many sources. Liked the context given the games. Learned about the sport, scull building, the historical setting, the relationships among the crew members and with their coaches, as well as with other teams, ....

One pointed out the Princeton location is "Carnegie Lake", not "Lake Carnegie". (Wikepedia does have it as "Lake Carnegie"??? That article suggests the lake has water pollution issues.) Excellent pictures there can be found by googling "Carnegie Lake Princeton".

Janet Williams | 38 comments I also really enjoyed this book and I would never have read it on my own. What a delightful story with insight into an amazing group of atheletes.

I am now reading "Mornings on Horseback" the early biography of Theodore Roosevelt. Ted is reading the Hamilton biography which has so many connections to modern day America. Also really enjoyed Charlie Rose's interview with Bryan Stevenson on Justice in America. His book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption. was named one of the 10 best non fiction in 2014. Might be a good book club choice.

Thanks, Janet! A reader on another thread had this to say about Just Mercy :

Anita: "Thanks for the reminder that the talks will be online. There was one speaker I did not get to hear, but my husband did--Bryan Stevenson--who wrote a non-fiction book about our justice system. Listening to my husband who raved about this man, I bought his book and wanted to be sure to find him on line!"

I believe Jean has read the Theodore Roosevelt Mornings on Horseback by David McCullough and liked it.

Is Ted reading Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton (2004) or Willard Sterne Randall's Alexander Hamilton (Reprint, 2014, original publication 2003)?
