Beverly 1. It was paper read many years ago.
2. Yes, this was (and still is) the only book I have read by Wallace Thurman. I might read Infants of Spring by the author as it is now available on kindle.
3. I don't remember having a fav or least fav charater (too many years have past) but often I do not read in these terms.
6. Nothing I would change as this is the story the author wanted to tell.
7. Yes, have recommended this book to others.

Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments 1. How did you experience this book? (Paper, e-book, audio) Paperback library loan

2. Was this your first time reading this author? Will you likely read more of their books?
It was my first time reading Thurman, and sadly he has a limited number of novels. I think there is one or two others.

3. Favorite/Least Favorite character(s)?

None of the characters were very likeable. They were well written though. My least favorite characters were Alva and Braxton.

4. Favorite quote(s)?

You see, people have to feel superior to something, and there is scant satisfaction in feeling superior to domestic animals or steel machines that one can train or utilize. It is much more pleasing to pick out some individual or some group of individuals on the same plane to feel superior to.

As I said before, Negroes are, after all, human beings, and they are subject to to be influenced and controlled by the same forces and factors that influence and control other human beings. In an environment where there are so many color-prejudiced whites, there are bound to be a number of color-prejudiced blacks.

5. Favorite/Least Favorite chapter/part/section of the book?

The conversation of the writers before they went to the rent party.

6. Anything you would change about this book? I want to know how Emma Lou finally ended up in life

7. Would you recommend this book to others? YES

8. Copy or link to your review if you have written one /book/show/8...

1. Paperback, Library Loan
2. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely consider reading his others!
3. My favorite character was the Emma Lou.
4. I have no favorite quotes.
5. I liked the book but really had no favorite or least favorite parts.
6. No, I wouldn't change anything in the book, but I would like to know what was next for Emma Lou. She grew in knowledge throughout the novel and I'd love to know where her transformation lead her when she decided to "pack up and go..."
7. I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. :)
8. I did not write a formal review but if I do I'll post it here! :)
