message 404: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 4th selection - Zenzele: A Letter for My Daughter by J. Nozipo Maraire. I loved this book because it confronted my own biased views of Africa, its cultures, and its peoples. The story presents simply as a letter from a mother to her daughter but contains many more truths than this simplistic beginning. Maybe the reason it is so impactful is the premise's basic simplicity. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

If you like Africa culture and you can read French I suggest
Larmes de crocodiles à l'ombre du baobab by Philippe Lengangue . I doubt it was translated because I'm the one who add the book on 카지노싸이트, so it'S definitely not a mainstream book.

I highly suggest Out of Africa or Heart of Darkness if you are looking for a classic.

So now I am at 8/12 total. Thanks, Adriana!

Lynn (lmelliott) | 686 comments Completed my 8th book for the challenge.....Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West. This was a difficult book to read because of the subject, but I finished. I've got to read something lighter!

Lynn (lmelliott) | 686 comments Just finished the 9th book for this challenge....The Cuckoo's Calling.....it was great! I was thinking I wouldn't like it much because why would I care about the death of a supermodel, but the story and characters roped me in and held me. Great recommendation!

I just bought this one today - I had a gift voucher to use up, and there are more than 50 holds on the copies at the libraries (almost 15 copies available, but still…!) I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but at least it will be there whenever I'm ready! Great to hear it's a good read!

message 431: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 5th selection - Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. I really enjoyed this book. Follett did an excellent job of presenting the history surrounding World War I without being boring. His multitude of characters made the events very personal. Cannot wait to read the 2nd book! My only criticism is that, understandably, the book is lengthy and quite a commitment. Other than that, definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

So I'd better make sure I've got a little bit of time with a pretty clear schedule - since I may not be able to drag myself away to do anything else?!

I've just started The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty and it's already grabbed me. Unfortunately, I'm reading it as an audio book, so it's not something I can just sit and devour - I'll be manufacturing opportunities to listen to it - car trips, train trips, walking on the treadmill, while I crochet…!
