Mock Newbery 2026 discussion

We have a winner for our Mock Newbery. I am hoping, someday, to figure out a way to use the point system they use for the real Newbery awards. Until 카지노싸이트 has the capability to do that we will have to go with a more flawed system. In the meantime Wonder by R.J. Palacio has been chosen as our mock Newbery winner.

Splendors and Glooms for sure! I haven't read Bomb yet but I am going to pick it because of how much buzz it is getting.

Splendors and Glooms and Ivan!

I liked the other two as well, but I'll be heartbroken if Ivan doesn't walk away with something this year.

Liar & Spy and Splendors & Glooms. I don't see why we couldn't have 4, but I'm not a fan of Ivan and I haven't had a chance to read Bomb yet.

I am still missing notifications that a poll has been posted. I never know they have happened until after you post results. I'll double check my settings.

Yalsa allows for as many honors as the committee wants. and I think all 4 are on my tops list. Things the committee could not look at are previous wins, but I can. So give the honors to Bomb and Ivan. Thanks for monitoring this group. It's been fun.

I've got to read a few more of these. This group has definitely helped me find some great books though. It'll be interesting to see how this compares to the official results.

I read Child of the Mountains in two days. It my favorite so far. I liked how the author described the mountain dialect as lyrical. I don't think it will be a Newbery though. It doesn't seem the type of book the committee typically chooses. Getting ready to start See You at Harry's.

The One and Only Ivan and Bomb are my two picks. I haven't made it all the way through Splendors and Glooms. I liked Liar & Spy, but I loved the other two. I'm with Jess, though. There have been so many great books this year, why can't we have four honors?

I didn't realize there was a limit to how many honor books.

I just read Twelve Kinds of Ice - which didn't make our list but is getting a lot of positive "last minute" buzz. A very special and unique little story!

Becky- I have to agree with you. Some years the selections are kind of ho- hum, but I felt like this year was a wonderful year for children's lit. So many imaginative options in a wide range of reading levels. A real treat to go through these great books.

Bomb and The One and Only Ivan. Both are brilliant.

I just read May B. by Caroline Starr Rose. I think it is a Newbery worthy. Out of the Dust won and it was also written in prose.

Finished May B. and I agree, but also think it will appeal to teachers and librarians even if not Newbery bound.

I had high hopes for May B. It is exactly the type of book I love to read. But I found it to be pretty lackluster overall. Liar and Spy was terrific. And ofcourse Wonder. It will be interesting to see if it will merit the Newbery or if it will get the medal for children with disabilites.

I would be very upset if Ivan doesn't win something.

So sad that Wonder got nothing, that just seems so wrong.

I literally felt like a knife was going through my stomach when I realized Wonder was not going to win anything. As soon as they got through the honor list and neither Ivan nor Wonder nor Starry River were on it, I knew my Wonder was in trouble.

I was thrilled with today's selections. I am a bit surprised that Wonder did not win anything. It is currently the most popular children's intermediate title in Westchester Cty, NY. The kids discovered it on their own. Word of mouth spread quickly among them making it a favorite.

Yes-good selections today, for sure. Just a few of my favorites left out is all!!! But there were lots of good books to choose from in 2012. And that makes me happy.
