I didn't know much about Flight before I picked it up, and had assumed it was a realistic fiction work. It is, but it includes time travel, but in a realistic way, so I'm confused as to whether it should be considered sci-fi also... I'm sticking with realistic.
The main character is Zits. You can guess how he got his name. He's a hardened, half Indian, 15 year old kid who's spent the last 9 years in the foster care system. Things have not been easy for Zits and a lot of grief he brings on himself.
By the end of the book he has been forced to see up close and personal some of the decisions he's made and how they affect the people around him. He's forced to FEEL again, and then decide how to act.
Alexie is an excellent writer and again hits the nail on the head with his portrayal of teenagers. This was a good read.
