Adriana Post what books you just got from the bookstore here!

I don't buy much new books or even used but the last books I got was the last book in the Kane Chronicles: The Serpent's Shadow.

message 2: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) I'm the same way. I don't purchase books very often from bookstores. Most of my reading material comes from the library or from Goodwill stores, where one can find a pretty good selection of books for only fifty-nine cents each.

The most recent book that I bought from a bookstore was UnWholly by Neal Shusterman.

message 3: by Lesli (new)

Lesli Nelson (lesliann45) | 6 comments I haven't been to the Bookstore in a long time, I bought the Fire at Wal-mart a few months ago.

Ooh! I have a little bit of spending money and I was thinking of what book I can buy with it and duh! UnWholly just came out. Most for me is the library but sometimes I go to the county store and I can get books for ten cents! I got two of my favorite books from there :D

I have not read the first book of that series which is crazy I know because it's supposed to be a great series.

message 7: by Isabella (new)

Isabella The Enchantress (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #6) by Michael Scott

I got the Enchantress the last in the series of the Nicholas Flamel Series, i felt like crying.

message 8: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I thought the series was longer. My cousin's wife loves the series. I've read an excerpt of the first book and I've got to admit it's awesome so far.

message 9: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I just went to a used bookstore (my favorite one!) and bought a tonne of Agatha Christie!! No YA or MG, but it was still very exciting for me. ;)

message 10: by Adriana (new)

Adriana More!? She must have really gave you a good impression.

I actually had the privilege of seeing Michael Scott speak in person when he was on tour for the release of The Enchantress. He's very nice, and exceptionally patient. He signed and personalized six or more books for many of the people who attended the event! Even though I haven't yet read any of the books in the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series, listening to Michael Scott discuss them was nonetheless a fascinating and memorable experience.

Very true! Oh my poor wallet. haha ;)

message 15: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Haha! I finally have money to start buying books but I'm so cheap -__- There are no used book stores near me. Only the ten cents county bookstore but they don't have a wide selection.

message 16: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I'm cheap too! I rarely buy books new unless they are ones in a series I'm collecting. For example, I'm going to buy Star Trek: Voyager: The Eternal Tide in the next few days. I'm soo excited for it. :D

message 17: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Well, I've gone against my previous comment and recently bought Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn brand new at the book store. I'm looking forward to reading it. :)

So jealous XD
It's supposed to be fantastic! Have fun (:

message 19: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Oh I will. :P

message 20: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I bought two books! There are on there way and I should get them in a week or so.
The Exceptionals by Erin Cashman In Front of God and Everybody by K.D. McCrite
I read a review about The Exceptionals which really made me want to get this book. Her friend said it was like X-Men and Scooby Doo or something like that. lol. She gave a rave review and I just really wanted it.
In Front of God and Everybody is a book I've wanted for months! I read the first part in a sample. It's supposed to be hilarious and I am ready for it already.

I got 26 books for free in ereader the last couple of days :O A lot of indie reads but all with pretty good covers so I'm happy.

Bryan Curveball The Year I Lost My Grip by Jordan Sonnenblick Prince of Wolves (The Grey Wolves, #1) by Quinn Loftis ParaNorman A Novel by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel Cage of Bone by Leanne Beattie Wander Dust (The Seraphina Parrish Trilogy, #1) by Michelle Warren UnEnchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #1) by Chanda Hahn Hidden Gem (Hidden Gem, #1) by India Lee Gravity (Gravity, #1) by Abigail Boyd Exiled (Immortal Essence, #1) by RaShelle Workman Elemental The First (Primord Series, #1) by Alexandra May Jars of Clay by Lee Strauss Before by Jessie Harrell Real Lies by Liana Brooks Seventy by Liana Brooks The Tale of Liril by Kevis Hendrickson Scary Mary by S.A. Nathan (nthnlwly) @Adriana - Those are great covers! Where are you finding all these free ebooks!??

I just came home with a couple books: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick

I've read Ready Player One already, but it was so good, I couldn't help myself from adding it to my collection of books. :) And Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? has been on my TBR list for awhile. They were both on sale so I feel pretty pleased with myself. haha!

message 23: by Adriana (new)

Adriana The ereader store for my sony ereader.

Huh. I read the summary of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I really don't know what to make of it. lol. I thought the android looked like a vampire from the small picture.

message 24: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) lol. I'm not sure how it will be either. But it's a classic sci-fi novel and that's right up my alley. :)

hmm, does the Sony ereader store let you download ebooks for other ereaders? haha

message 25: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Don't think so? What type of reader do you have? I'm sure there is a store for it and if so there is always usually free books.

message 26: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Oh yeah, but I've been through the free section in my Kobo bookstore a million times. No big deal, it isn't like I don't have enough to read right now!

message 27: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Well there you go then! But you might miss out on some good books if you hardly look.

Just got The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. I'm going to stop now. :P

message 28: by Adriana (new)

Adriana When I just came from the bookstore I was sad that I am so out of touch with 7-12 grade reads. A lot of them I didn't know. I'm going to resolve myself to read more children's books.

message 29: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) I just bought Little Brother by Cory Doctorow at the bookstore this evening. The author was there to give a talk and sign books, and his intelligence on matters of technology, economics and international law was every bit as amazing as in his writing. One of the books coming out in the next several months that I'm looking forward to most is Cory Doctorow's Homeland, the much-anticipated sequel to Little Brother.

message 30: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I thought you already had that book.

message 31: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) I did have a paperback copy of Little Brother. I gave that one to my mother so that she could have it signed, and the new copy of Little Brother that I obtained for myself was a hardcover.

I'm going to get a copy of When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead to have signed tonight at her author event. We're leaving in a couple of hours! :-)

message 32: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Oh okay. Have fun! Are you planning on getting her Liar & Spy?

message 33: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) The event was to promote Liar & Spy, but the book we bought was actually a copy of When You Reach Me to have signed for my mother. I brought my own copy of When You Reach Me to have signed, plus one of the library's. I think I'm going to wait until at least January to buy Liar & Spy, so that I can get a copy with the Newbery emblem on the cover if it cops one of the 2013 awards.

Rebecca Stead did read to us from Liar & Spy, and it sounds like a very good book. I've heard it mentioned in numerous places as a major potential contender for the 2013 ALA awards. I don't know if even ten people ended up coming to the author event tonight at the bookstore, though. It was such a small crowd that Rebecca Stead brought her chair out in front of the table and had us circle around her to create a more intimate atmosphere, so she was sitting maybe three feet away from me as she gave her presentation! It was really more like a conversation among a group of friends than a traditional author event. I would count it as one of my most memorable experiences with meeting renowned authors.

Next up? Cinda Williams Chima. Then R.L. Stine in November, followed soon after by Jeff Kinney!

message 34: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Where do you live Josiah? You get to see so many authors!!

message 35: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) There's an independent bookstore called Anderson's Bookshop that has two locations about an hour from where I live. They host author visits pretty much every day, sometimes more than one per day. On the night that I went to see James Dashner, for example, they were having Ellen Hopkins for her own event at the Anderson's gift shop next-door.

message 36: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Very cool!

message 37: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Good idea Josiah
R.L. Stine!!! I love that he's continuing to write great books.

message 38: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) R.L. Stine is still one of the most prolific authors working today. At its peak of popularity, the Goosebumps series was adding a new book every month. Now that's quite a pace for a writer to maintain!

message 39: by Adriana (new)

Adriana His books were always small though. He is creative and I'm sure his head was exploding with book topics to write on. I hope the shows come out near Halloween. I would love to watch them again.

message 40: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) I've always liked the television series, too. Some excellent writers worked on adapting the books into television episodes, including Neal Shusterman.

message 41: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Ooh! Which book?

message 42: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) Are you asking which episodes of the television series he wrote? I'm not sure, but a list of Neal Shusterman's writing credits can probably be found on IMDb.

There we go. The two episodes credited to him on IMDb are Night of the Living Dummy III and The Werewolf of Fever Swamp. He may have written additional episodes, though; comprehensive listings for that sort of thing are often missing on IMDb since there's such a vast amount of information to include on a practically limitless number of entertainment projects. They actually rely a lot on volunteer help.

message 43: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I thought you wrote that he's making one of he might be making one of his books a television series (;
But that's interesting too!

message 44: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) The last book I bought from a bookstore (Anderson's) was We are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball by Kadir Nelson, to have signed by him at his author event a week ago today. He also autographed three of his books for my hometown library: We Are the Ship, Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans and I Have a Dream.

I don't frequently buy books, but I own copies of the first ninety-one winners of the Newbery Medal (from The Story of Mankind by Hendrik Willem van Loon in 1922 to Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos in 2012), so I'll for sure be purchasing a copy of The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate as soon as it's re-released with the golden Newbery emblem on the cover. I'll also buy the three 2013 Newbery Honor books, of course.

message 45: by Adriana (last edited Jan 30, 2013 06:15AM) (new)

Adriana How many signed books do you have? You probably have fifty or something like that going to Anderson's all of the time.

The last books I bought were:
Past Perfect by Leila Sales Then I Met My Sister by Christine Hurley Deriso

message 46: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) The number of signed books I own is definitely getting up there, especially since the authors are usually willing to sign more than one book per person. The only Anderson's author event on my radar at the moment is John Boyne's upcoming visit, scheduled for April 19. I'm hoping to have him autograph my copy of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas!

message 47: by Adriana (new)

Adriana *gasp* I will continue to say it - you are so lucky! That's going to be amazing meeting him.

message 48: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) I just bought 2013 Newbery Medal winner The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. Some years it can take months before copies of the Newbery winner with the Newbery Medal emblem on the cover appear in bookstores, but I guess it's a tribute to the popularity of The One and Only Ivan that it took such a short time this year. There were actually dozens of copies of the book with the facsimile Newbery Medal on the cover for sale in the store where I bought it.

message 49: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I was planning on reading it but didn't have the time. I hope you like it. Everyone I've come across really enjoy it.
