Friends with Books discussion

I think books are an awesome gift for kids! Although, you're right Adriana, most don't take care of them - I know that from working at the library! My aunt had a baby and I actually gave them three board books for their daughter. :) It was cool. I'm going to make it my thing now. Giving board books to babies. ;)

I'm giving some books to my soon to be cousin. I like giving books but I worry when they grow older they won't appreciate my books presents as much.

Just finished reading my first book of the year now on to my second!

GR was so slow yesterday! I can see that you also got impatient with it. ;) I did the same thing on one of my groups: ended up posting the same comment about 5 times. lol!

lol. I think it's not just 카지노싸이트 but my house. My internet is super slow lately.
Read Two Truths and a Lie and enjoyed it but I thought it was lacking. It wasn't as scary as the other books and one of the main components revealed in the last book wasn't there the whole time.
I read The Liar Society so now I'm off to read the second book but I have to organize my drawers and exercise before the night is over. You reading anything now Trevor?

I'm reading Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter. I love the Gallagher Girls books. They're got pretty much everything I love in a good book: LOTS of character development, perfect pacing, exciting plot, action, romance, and a kick-butt heroine. Check them out if you like any of the things I listed above.

How many books are there in that series? I love spy books now because of Liar Society. I will have to see if the books are at my library (:

There are six I believe with the final one coming out this year. I have to read Liar Society. That sounds so good!

@Noelle- Oh good. The series doesn't drag on. I hate it when that happens. The Liar Society is a really great trilogy. The main character is so awesome. The last one's coming out this year which is so very bittersweet. I want to see how she gets her final revenge/justice but I'll miss her.

It is so good! I can't wait to see over the Wall. All the suspicious going ons in the town. I feel like the eldest member knows what's going on.

I'm just now starting James Dashner's The Kill Order, which I've been looking forward to ever since I first heard about it months before the book's release. James Dashner did talk about the book for a little while during the author event at which I saw him, but since he was really there to promote A Mutiny in Time, his other books weren't the main focus.

It is cute and funny I was laughing so much about Olivia's parents in the 3rd book ;) If you can borrow one you should give it a try :)

I can't say so much about a Great and Teribble Beauty. It is weird it isn't really bad I guess I just don't really get warm with it. There are things that should make me go like really and what is that all about, but I don't really care that much. It feels so flat. But I guess it is me to be honest. We will see when I finished, I'm a bit more then halfway now.

The Kill Order is really just an extension of the Maze Runner trilogy, so I don't know if the question is whether or not it will be as popular as the original three novels. Like Scott Westerfeld's Extras, The Kill Order does its part to illuminate the rest of the story, casting light in corners of the narrative that space limitations didn't permit further exploration of in the first three books. The Kill Order takes place mostly fifteen years before the beginning of The Maze Runner, and so far has been as driven and action-packed as the other books in the series.

I'm just now beginning The Mighty Miss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis. It's a companion novel to Bud, Not Buddy, for which Christopher Paul Curtis won the 2000 Newbery Medal. The Mighty Miss Malone has a lot to live up to if it's going to be as good as its predecessor, but I know Christopher Paul Curtis put a lot of time and thought into the writing of this book, and he's always delivered in the past, so I have every confidence his newest offering will also be a success. This is a book I've been looking forward to reading for the last few years.

It's the second book in the Heist Society series by Ally Carter, which is really good, and way different from her Gallagher Girls series. Ally Carter is coming to my area to release the third book in the series, so I have to finish the second one before that. Has anybody else read the Heist Society series?

Nope but I should read it. Have you read Double Crossed: A Spies and Thieves Story by her?

I just finished Taken. It was a little too fast paced for me but I appreciated the twists and the potential of the next book. Grey was a great main character.

I am now reading Jerry Spinelli's Jake and Lily, his first new novel since the eloquent and elegant Smiles to Go came out in 2008. That's a long time to wait for a new story, but it's worth it when the author being waited on is Jerry Spinelli. I've come to think of him as truly being one of the greatest ever.

AAAHHHH!!! It must be soooo great! I love Jerry Spinelli. Maniac Magee and Wringer are two of my all time favorite books. You must tell me what you think of it when you are done.

I just started reading Kindred Souls by the one and only Patricia MacLachlan. Of all the authors I've met at Anderson's Bookshop, Patricia MacLachlan, along with Laurie Halse Anderson and Christopher Paul Curtis, have probably been the three most impressive to actually encounter in person. That's really saying a lot, considering I've also met Neal Shusterman, Sharon Creech, Sharon M. Draper and James Dashner at Anderson's.

I'm reading:

I'm on Wonder by R.J. Palacio now. She's been touring the country as part of her "Choose Kindness" campaign recently, including a stop at an assembly hall about an hour from where I live as part of an event co-hosted by Anderson's Bookshop and the Naperville Public Library. I'm hoping Wonder is going to make me really regret having passed up the opportunity to see R.J. Palacio in person.

You are so going to regret it! But we will just see what you think by the end of the book.

I'm about to start Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver. Before I actually start reading, though, I'll give myself some breathing room to fully process what I've just read in Wonder. That part of the reading experience can be most important of all, in my experience.

I think I already feel safe predicting that Wonder will end up being my choice as deserving winner of the 2013 Newbery Medal. Of course, other books could surprise me over the course of the next eleven months, as Between Shades of Gray did last year to become my pick as the book I thought should have won the 2012 Newbery Medal, but I just can't see anything surpassing Wonder for me at this point. It's one of the most powerful books I've read in recent years. I have to give a least a fighting chance to The One and Only Ivan, though, since it did win the 2013 Newbery Medal.

I am now starting The Boy on Cinnamon Street by Phoebe Stone. This will be my first experience with Phoebe Stone's writing, and I'm looking forward to finding out what it's like.
