it was ok

I knew going into this book that this was going to be a series and this was only part 1. After finishing, I won't be going on to part 2.

The characters in this book are not well-developed, so it's hard to understand their motivation. The main female character is just so angry all of the time. Why? We are given tiny little clues, but nothing adds up. The main male character is strong and reserved, but we don't know too much about his recent history to understand why he does the things he does. By the end of the book, I feel like I have only known them for a day rather than really understanding where they came from and how their life experiences will propel them into book 2. No thanks. The sub-characcters gave nothing to the story, except maybe one of the ghosts.

The plot is a little weak. There definitely is action, but sometimes the action descriptions skip a few steps. I liked that it was a paranormal story, but I didn't understand some of the things that happened because we weren't told they happened. That made the storylines hard to follow at times.

I finished the book feeling great that I actually finished it but not wanting to know more or read on. I can't recommend it.
