The main issue for me was the lack of emotional connection between the characters. Their relationship felt entirely based on physical attraction, with little depth or chemistry to back it up. While lust can play a role in love, it shouldn’t be the foundation of it. Love requires more than just being drawn to someone’s looks. For example, I can admire and appreciate someone’s appearance without being in love with them—something this story seems to overlook.

When I first picked up Fear by Dirk Kurbjuweit, I assumed it was simply about an abusive neighbour, and at first glance, it certainly seems that way. The protagonist, Randolph, and his family are being harassed by their downstairs neighbour, Dieter Tiberius, in a disturbing and unsettling way. But as I delved deeper into the story, I realized there’s much more at play here. The novel isn’t just about an external threat, but about the internal struggles within Randolph’s family—particularly their growing fear, mental anguish, and feelings of helplessness.

The characters are so wonderfully flawed, which makes them feel incredibly real. The female lead's fear of entering a relationship because she might get hurt really resonated with me, as it mirrors exactly how I’m feeling right now. But her bravery and willingness to trust the male lead (who, by the way, is totally worth it) is so admirable. I’m not sure if I’ll ever meet someone like him—someone who accepts me as I am, flaws and all—but does that kind of person even exist? Anyway, back to the book—I absolutely loved every part of it!...more
