It was extremely violent for a YA dysopia and it tackled some very important subjects. It also seemed to be inspired by some popular dystopian works, which I really enjoyed. As for this last book in the series, I enjoyed it and loved seeing the conclusion (and having all the answers). I thought the end was kinda rushed and I'm still wondering how is the world actually doing outside of their little area. Overall I really enjoyed it and am really glad I discovered it because of work!...more

It’s still extremely violent for a YA series and the talks about the end of the world + the pandemic hit a bit too close to home. I still have an issue with the narration voice and some characters, but overall it’s a really good YA dystopian trilogy....more

To be honest I wasn’t expecting much but I was nicely surprised.
Enclave was an easy read and was actually very entertaining. I’m interested enough to keep reading the series as I definitely want answers on all of it. The idea was great and felt new, considering 2011 saw its fair share of dystopian novels. It was also extremely violent for a YA novel. Unfortunately it wasn’t perfect, though it wasn’t that bad. For example, the author mostly listed actions and the feelings of the characters were very often over looked. Also she mostly told us everything instead of showing us, which was very frustrating.
In the end it was a nice book and I will gladly keep reading!...more

This was insanely smart and I truly became obsessed with Jennifer Lynn Barnes. The ending was particularly violent and twisted, something I have never seen going that far in any YA thrillers. I’m so sad I’m saying goodbye to this set of characters but am so glad I got to spend so much time with them.

However it wasn’t my favourite from this author: I loved the 1932 storyline way more and was really sad to realise there would be no link through the two stories told. As I was reading I was expecting Marlowe to spy on the 1932 murders, to become a detective or at least that the current murders were somehow linked to the old ones… but no. The stories didn’t intertwined, which is weird because what is the point of telling two stories when both feel rushed in the end? I wish the author would have picked one and really detailed it, because no detective work was needed through the whole book. It was just weird stuff happening in 1932 and now and then we got told why and that was it. Anyway I still enjoyed it but I expected it to be more and I’m sad the stories got told that way!...more
I’m absolutely loving where this story is heading. For once, it was full on about the mystery and not the romance, which made it even better. It4.5 ⭐️

3rd book for the Summerween Readathon 2025 done! It was a nice YA about female empowerment and witches. I enjoyed the discussions around abuse, survival and women but wish the characters were a tad more developed (though for teens they were quite cool characters). I guessed the plot twist early on but still thought it was a good one!...more

Even though I enjoyed it less that most of the books in the original series, I did have a good time reading this one! Some parts were confusing as we were following many characters, many storylines and many quests but I found my way around. The ending was very promising and I cannot wait to read book 2!...more
