I absolutely enjoyed the other part of the book, though. The fanfic sections were cute and the text-based flirting was surprisingly less cringe-y than expected. It was fun, flirty, and felt emotionally connected. Solid three stars--- wish that the resolution would have felt slightly less cheap.

This series has gotten me out of a major book slump. I'm such a big fan of Teia's character and her development. I do feel like the stakes somehow felt less high than in the first book, but the plot twists and characters were as distinct and exciting as the first book. Where the first book felt very Six of Crows, this read as very Shadow and Bone (just inspired by in the broadest strokes).

It was a pretty fantastic representation of tennis and the actual tennis sequences were great too!
Dylan is a tennis pro who's going through a bit of a rough patch--- she is cursed with only ever making it to Grand Slam finals but never actually winning it.
The book does a great job of navigating the difficult world of professional tennis and the stakes really did feel high.
Dylan and Oliver are so perfect together and I really did appreciate how wholesome their relationship was.

Honestly a very, very solid book. LOVED the dynamics between the two leads and the banter was peak. Somehow Saoirse's innocence didn't bother me like it can--- it feel genuine instead of forced.
While I loved the characters and their interactions, I sometimes felt that I lost the plot.
Read this if you want: piratey vibes, marriage of convenience, difficult family relationships, and lots of found family.

One sentence summary: Tabi is so full of excitement to finally be working at her dream summer job, but there are many different things that break her perfect dream of what working there would be like.
It’s a lovely and body-positive book— I would have loved this growing up....more

I wanted this book to blow me away and it just didn't quite get to that for me. It is still well worth reading; it just isn't something that I'll be raving about.
Mina is part of a long line of bell-keepers, or people who have to ring a bell every few hours to prevent the apocalypse. I feel like the background of this book could have been made much clearer because even after finishing the book, I feel like I don't "get" the bells themselves. This is an ambitious book in terms of the worldbuilding, but it also falls a little short of a coherent world. Several of the characters had depth and creativity to their personalities, but unfortunately, Mina and her boyfriend lacked that spark. I felt uninvolved and thought their dynamic did not match the overall vibe of the setting.
