This book is not for me: 1. So slowww of words with nothing happening 2. Supposed to be a crime noir within a cyberpunk book. But after reaThis book is not for me: 1. So slowww of words with nothing happening 2. Supposed to be a crime noir within a cyberpunk book. But after reading the first 5 chapters all I saw was cliched crime writing and nothing scifi that seemed original or infused with a sense of wonder.
If there is something cool later I'm not willing to slog through these problems to get to it....more

But I started it and it felt like I was doing homework. The tone and the MESSAGE felt just like 1984 to me. This book is written in a style I associate with the 20th century. I am supposed to learn from reading it. I love to learn from a book but I don't like to feel that intent coming from the author. And I know all this is possible and humans are capable of terrible things. Just study today's North Korea and you will know all is possible. I thought Oryx and Crake was much better and I am guessing I will enjoy her other books too....more
