A few months back, Maddie had discovered some of her father’s old DVDs in a box in the basement, including Star Trek: The Original Series. At first they had both watched it just to laugh at the old-fashioned special effects, how the punches didn’t even look real. But after a couple of episodes, they’d started to get into it. Then there was an episode called “Mirror, Mirror,” in which the Enterprise crew discovers a parallel universe where everyone is the opposite of the way they are in the real world. All the crew members are suddenly evil, and it was the best episode of the show.
