Kindle Notes & Highlights
This novel is dedicated to all the firefighters, police officers, US military service members, and all crisis first responders. You are true real-life superheroes that walk amongst civilians. If it weren’t for you, the world would be a much darker place. And, of course, thank you for providing authors like me such delicious inspiration.

No matter how much I wanted to deny it. Not matter how much I could say it wasn’t true. There was no getting around it. This wasn’t an accident. Someone was trying to kill me.
“Because even in the center of a blazing fire, my body reacted to you. Because seeing you so small and helpless in a hospital bed twisted my guts. Because the day I walked into your room and those stormy gray eyes landed on mine, I felt like there was something tethering us together. Or maybe it was because of the way you sighed and leaned into my chest the night I carried you to my bed. Your scent still lingers on my sheets, Katie.”
For a girl who never thought about sex, who never desired that kind of relationship with a man… I sure was making up for lost time.
He was so much bigger that he completely dwarfed me, and when I settled my head on his chest and he wound his arms around me, it was like I was completely surrounded by him. Like I was finally where I belonged. After all these years of searching, I finally found my place.
“The thought of anyone else’s hands on you drives me insane. Now I get to be your first. And your last.”
“I’ve just gotten really used to being alone.” He squeezed my fingers. “You’re not alone anymore, Katie. You’re never going to be alone again.”
“I’m saying I already know what I want. Who I want. I don’t expect you to know right now. I don’t even expect an answer. I just wanted you to know how I feel.”
