“Aren’t you afraid that I’m going to accidentally set you on fire or make you explode if you keep holding me like this?” she asked, drily. “Terrified.” She knocked her head against him in frustration, and his body vibrated with quiet laughter.
“I’m absolutely terrified,” he repeated as he reached and pushed aside a strand of her hair that had plastered itself to her forehead. Then he wrapped his other arm around her and pulled her closer. “And yet, the thought of missing my chance to hold you like this is somehow more terrifying.”
“But something about tonight is making me feel even more foolish than I did the last time we were alone like this. I blame the rain.” “You prefer rainy days,” she recalled from their conversation back at the inn in Belwind. “Yes. Although tonight it’s more about the way you look in that rain than anything else.” “Which is like a half-drowned rat dredged up from the river, I suspect.” “The most stunning half-drowned rat I’ve ever seen.”
