I could not wait to begin Mockingjay The Hunger Games 3 after reading Catching Fire The Hunger Games 2 earlier this year. Because of comments of my fiends I did not know if I would like it, but it only took about two chapters for me to be hooked. The characters, both new and old grabbed me, confused me, and excited me. I think that maybe Suzanne Collins be talent is her ability to weave such an intricate story using her characters.

Katniss: The Girl On Fire broke my heart several times over in Mockingjay. After finishing it, I went back and watched the Hunger Games and the differences in the two were too many to count. Throughout the book she is haunted by all the lives she has taken, both on purpose and not. Every new death seems to cause another nightmare and another reason to hate herself. She doesn't understand why she has to be the Mockingjay, the symbol of the rebellion, and she hates herself for what the capitol has done to Peeta.

Peeta: For the first part of the book the baker's son is in the hands of the Capitol. Through as series of interviews, Peeta begs for a cease-fire. This is the only reason Katniss agrees to become the Mockingjay, to give Peeta and the other captors immunity when they are saved. In his last interview, Peeta entreaties again for them to stop fighting, but ends the interview by warning the underground District 13 that the Capitol is going to attack. Because of his warning, the district has enough time to get to a bunker and everyone in fine. Except for Peeta. He is beaten before the broadcast is shut down and Katniss and Finnick both have a meltdown. They stage a rescue mission and Peeta (along with Johanna and Annie) is brought to District 13. However, upon his waking up, he attempts to kill Katniss and they discover he has been Hijacked using Tracker Jackers. He has become a mutt for the capitol sent in to kill Katniss.
