What Members Thought

I loved the setting of New York at Christmas and the Strand bookshop. I enjoyed the first part of the book as they followed clues that they left to each other in the notebook. The latter part of the book dragged a bit. I enjoyed Dash and Lily, but found a lot of the dialogue pretentious and as if the authors were trying too hard. Enjoyable read for the season.

I finally finished this book! It took me way too long to get through and that is mostly because of the pretentious nature of the characters. Dash was ok, but Lily was unbearable. She is supposed to be 16, yet she acts like a 9 year old. She thinks boys are gross, scared of 'monsters' in the cinema, treats her brother like her personal play thing and generally believes she is untouchable because her grandfather knows everyone in the area. Not gonna lie, I almost gave up on this book during the first chapter. It introduces us to Dash, the snarly hipster who is too smart for his own good, and a little too pretentious for my liking. I thought the book of dares was vaguely interesting, but not particularly something that grabbed me.

Quick, funny, Christmas read. I really like Dash's personality; Lily's drove me nuts. I laughed out loud in public, on public transit over this book. Cute, finding romance YA book.
Best line in the book is when Sofia gives Dash a present and he doesn't have one for her. He stammers, makes an excuse for not having one for her and she says to him: "That's ok. Your embarrassment at not having the thought is what counts."
