I wanted to love this as much as everyone else did but I found I was kind of bored and wanting more. I will say the end of the book redeemed itself and got so much faster paced. I didn't hate the book I just didn't love it like I did some of my other fantasy books I've read lately. I started this book after reading The Wicked Deep and I should have found a different book coming off such a fantastic book

2.5 stars. Well, I really wanted to love this...I just didn’t. I think it may be a case of it just wasn’t the book for me? I started out taking a few chapters to get sucked in, because Alice is a horribly mean character with a very co-dependent relationship with her not so great mom. But then I started really liking it once Finch showed up, and then about halfway through the book or a little after, everything changed and I just had trouble caring. (view spoiler) ...more

I thought it was wonderful! It did drag in places, and I was eager to get to the next stop.

It is not a retelling of Alice in Wonderland. I feel like that is an oversimplification. I might have really related to it because anger issues and memories are something I struggle with on the regular. The writing was wonderful, the characters (unpopular opinion) were likable and hateable. Something I think a good character should be.
