This book was not what I was expecting. I think it is often shelved wrong, as I was expecting more "horror." I would not call this horror, as it is not "horrific." It's more of a gothic-feeling domestic novel with magical realism. Still, it achieves an unsettling feeling throughout the entire work that sticks with you. The writing is strong, it kept me engaged, even while not much is happening (though I did find it dragging a bit during the island portion, it picked back up after). The character ...more
