“Callahan has combined two very intriguing characters with a great storyline to create a fast-paced supernatural tale.” (Kimber Leigh Wheaton)

Paranormal investigator, Kaylyn is thrilled with the opportunity to investigate the Teague Hotel—a beautiful historic building at the heart of Chatham, Ohio—with a not-so-beautiful past. But the conditions of her investigation aren’t so ideal…

First, she screws up on what should be a simple “pick-up” when she’s sent to the local historical society to retrieve an occult object with unknown powers. Then, her new boss threatens to fire her on the spot, potentially ending the career she’s dreamed about and worked for her whole life.

Unfortunately, even after he relents and gives her one final chance to prove her worth to the organization, things continue to go wrong.

Terribly wrong.

Unexplainable dreams and blackouts… Fires… Unrelenting attacks against her mind, body, and soul, that may or may not be real.

If Kaylyn stands any chance of defeating the powerful force waiting for her in the hotel, she’ll first have to convince everyone around her that the threat isn’t only in her head. And—possibly the harder task—face up to the fact that she needs to ask for help.

“The ending scenes had me on the edge of my seat, behind a cushion hugging my dog.” (Never judge a Book by its Movie)

Book 1 in the Aicil Paranormal Files

Join the members of Aicil, a centuries old organization dedicated to researching and fighting the forces that stalk humankind from just beyond the veil of darkness. Hauntings, occult objects, supernatural beings…. they’re just the beginning for these investigators. The darkness doesn’t always recede when the sun comes up.

I was in the mood for something a little different to read, and Fractured Legacy by Skye Callahan was definitely it! I absolutely loved it! From the very first page to the very end. And every page in between! I was totally hooked. I was intrigued. And I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next! The further I got in to the story, the faster I turned the pages. I was completely immersed in it.

I loved the characters. They were very easy to relate to, connect with, and they were believable.

The downside? It was too short! I wanted more! A LOT more! It's a good thing that Fractured Legacy is the first book in a series. I want to read more about these characters and their assignments.

Fractured Legacy is like Supernatural - starring girls, and with a civilized working office. If you want something a little different to read, DEFINITELY give this book a look!

Fractured Legacy is due for publication in October, 2013. I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I knew going into this book that this was going to be a series and this was only part 1. After finishing, I won't be going on to part 2.

The characters in this book are not well-developed, so it's hard to understand their motivation. The main female character is just so angry all of the time. Why? We are given tiny little clues, but nothing adds up. The main male character is strong and reserved, but we don't know too much about his recent history to understand why he does the things he does. By the end of the book, I feel like I have only known them for a day rather than really understanding where they came from and how their life experiences will propel them into book 2. No thanks. The sub-characcters gave nothing to the story, except maybe one of the ghosts.

The plot is a little weak. There definitely is action, but sometimes the action descriptions skip a few steps. I liked that it was a paranormal story, but I didn't understand some of the things that happened because we weren't told they happened. That made the storylines hard to follow at times.

I finished the book feeling great that I actually finished it but not wanting to know more or read on. I can't recommend it.

WOW! Just WOW!

I became an instant fan of Skye Callahan’s the moment I finished Fractured Legacy.

This is a great paranormal thriller that I will highly recommend to anyone.

“Break the bond. Ni neart go cur le cheile.”

No sense in rehashing the blurb – you already know what the book is about. But what you don’t know is how real everything becomes as you read.

Kay is a paranormal investigator along with her sister. However – this assignment really gets to Kay and not because she has had a such a keen interest in the building. A new boss has just been thrown into the mix and he does EVERYTHING by the Aicil book – something Kay I highly doubt has even opened.

Being a paranormal investigator, Kay is very used to odd the things happening and can usually be easily explained. But what happens when odd things start happening to her that she can’t explain??

I love all the twists and turns in this book. The details in every aspect – it’s like you are right there in the action. And the banter – OMG! Perfect between each character – you get an idea of how each person is different and the way they interact with another – I absolutely loved it! Just made the whole book all the more entertaining and real to me!

Skye definitely gained herself a new fan in me with this series. I insist you buy this book!

Very quick read! Enjoyed! Similar to the Ellie Jordan Ghost Trapped series. However, I enjoyed this more so, I liked how story is more about the characters than the ghost story in each book, but the ghost story is great in the 1st book!

More Please!

I'm a total wuss when it comes to scary stuff. I'm a hide my face/look away/leave the room sort of girl (much to the dismay of my horror movie-loving husband, lol), and sometimes, all it takes is creepy music to send me bolting to the nearest exit. Yep, total baby, right here. And yet, for some reason, I love paranormal mysteries, and ghost stories, and suspenseful novels that wind me up up chapter by chapter. Case in point? One of my favorite series of all time is a paranormal/horror romance. I ADORE those books, even when they are scaring the bejeezus out of me. So you can imagine what happened when I read the blurb for Skye Callahan's Fractured Legacy. You guessed it - I was all over that action! And when I read an excerpt, I was sold. Immediately.

The story focuses a pair of paranormal-investigating sisters, Kaylyn and Cole. It's been a while since I read a sisters book, and I gotta say, this one makes me think I need to add more to my library. They had a great dynamic and their interaction felt very authentic (I chuckled more than once, thinking to myself, "Yep, I'd say that to my sister too!"). While Cole plays more of a supporting role in this book, I suspect there's a lot more story coming her way as the series develops. For now, though, it's all about Kaylyn - and believe me, there's more than enough going on in Kaylyn's life to keep things interesting!

Kaylyn's having a tough time. Blacking out at work, experiencing things she can't explain, and now the job that means everything to her could be taken away if she steps out of line - which, Kaylyn being Kaylyn, happens all too often. Oh, and we mustn't forget that pesky, not-so-nice entity that is way too interested in her and does things like....well....things I can't tell you!

What I like most about Kaylyn is her spark. She's got it in spades, and that's a good thing, because it makes her character ridiculously easy to connect with. Even when everything is falling apart around her and she's being put through the paranormal wringer, she's still fun to read about.

But where Kaylyn really shines is in her interactions with her new boss, Jonah. I totally ate up their scenes together. They have such fantabulous chemistry, and not necessarily in a romantic way. In fact, there's no romance at all. As a romance junkie, that would normally be a deal-breaker for me, but surprisingly, it wasn't an issue. The book works just fine without all the smoochy, swoony stuff. That's not to say I'm opposed to a romance. Far from it! The potential is definitely there, it's just a matter of whether or not Skye Callahan chooses to weave one into the series (and for the record, I vote OMG YES PLEASE, DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!).

Speaking of Jonah....LOVE. HIM. He comes off a bit hard-nosed and straight-laced at first, but with reason, and thankfully, the author doesn't waste any time giving you reasons to like him. He's just so perfect for this story, cool-headed and practical and willing to step up in small and big ways when it's necessary, and he really fits well with the sisters. He's like the balancing force, and without him, I don't think the book would have worked nearly as well as it did. And of course, he's got that whole chemistry thing with Kaylyn going on, as I mentioned earlier. That helps too ;)

My only complaint with Fractured Legacy is how brisk the pacing was. The story moves along so swiftly at times, it's like someone hit the fast forward button. I wanted the suspense and paranormal-y stuff to be drawn out a bit more, to really build the tension and put me on the edge of my seat. I craved that freaked-out, jumping-at-shadows feeling, and while I came close to experiencing it several times, I never quite got there. However, despite that, I still really enjoyed the story.

Final verdict? Fractured Legacy gave me a teasing taste of what this author can do and how awesome this series can be, and now I'm hungry for more. I will definitely be reading the next book!

I have truly become a glutton for punishment! Normally I won't read anything that is part of a series until the whole series is out there for my reading enjoyment; I'm just not a patient person for the most part. But I've devoured several in the last few weeks that are part of the series... and now I'm waiting. The latest is Fractured Legacy, Book #1 in the Darkness Bound Series by Skye Callahan. I'm not even sure how many books will end up being a part of this series, but I will devour them all!

I like the premise of the story. Kind of reminds me Warehouse 13 (it's on Sci-Fi network if you've never watched it)... actually there are quite a few shows, but that was the first one to pop into my head. A group of investigators that go after and procure items that are haunted, possessed, were used in the occult...things of that nature. The story focuses around Nicole and Kaylyn Anderson (sisters) and their new boss, Jonah Troyer. Nicole tends to follow the rules and Kaylyn tends not to. The "company" that they work for seems to feel that their previous boss let the sisters run a little too wild, so they relieved him of his duties and sent in Jonah to "clean up". There's some back story here, that we don't get in this book and you really have to pay attention to gather all the information that you are going to need later on to piece this all together. We learn some secrets, involving some higher ups at the company and some involving Kaylyn, as well. We don't get any solid answers, just bits and pieces of information. It's my hope that subsequent books in this series will clear it all up.

I sort of flip flop a little on how much I like Kaylyn as a character. We aren't given much insight to Nicole, so she's likeable with the development that we have; hopefully her character will develop a little more as the series goes on... and I sort of sit on the fence about Jonah as well. These two have "issues" and we aren't given more than snippets of back story here and there to piece together why Jonah and Kaylyn have these issues. For me that was a struggle. I'd love to see both of these characters developed a little more... learn what makes them "tick"... find out what it is about their pasts that they can't let go of. If we made character development into a pie chart (see, that logical part of my brain just won't shut up!) we'd be sitting at like 3/4 full right now. But, on the bright side, we know this is a series so there is plenty of time to get them to their full potential.

All in all, this series holds a lot of promise in my eyes. I really am excited to see where the story goes and where the characters end up. This book has a little bit of everything... ghosts, hints of the occult, possessions, hauntings, sexual tension (yep, there's some of that in there too and boy do they really fight it!)... ok, so maybe we should call that romance, whatever floats your boat... weird haunted objects, spooky hotels, and secrets (and I have a feeling a lot more secrets to come). I like where it's headed... my biggest hope is that we get a little more development for Kaylyn and Jonah (because I really, really want to like them!).

I was taken in right away by Kaylan and Nicole's dynamic. Sisters who do a secretive job dealing with supernatural entities on a daily basis. They work for Aicil, the people to call when the unexplainable ends up in your life one way or another.

It begins with Kaylan botching a job but I don't think it was really her fault, the sisters supervisor being abruptly replaced by a guy only slightly older than Kaylan. She has enough attitude to last a lifetime but the new boss, Jonah, isn't having it. He comes down on Kay for her lax in the dress code and her unbridled tongue. He had been sent there to give Kaylan or "Kay" and Nicole "Cole" the boot. But he soon finds out that though she lacks discipline Kay is good at what she does. He puts the girls on probation while he sticks close and goes hands on in their new case at the Teague Hotel. A place that Kaylan has long been interested in seeing up close.

Things seem to spiral for Kaylan and Jonah notices it right away. Cole is worried about her sister but has attributed her strange behavior to a recent breakup. Kaylan has been having crazy nightmares and sleep has eluded her for awhile, good sleep at least.

Now I love the twists in this story and I adore the dynamic that develops between Kay and Jonah. He gets protective of her pretty quickly once he figures out that something is supernaturally not right. But once they figure that out, things get crazy pretty fast and what they find is mind blowing. I seriously didn't see that coming!

Skye Callahan did a great job on Fractured Legacy! May I add I read this while my house was dark and the rest of my family was in bed. Not the best idea LOL!

I will probably read it again and my sixteen year old daughter is bugging me to buy the book for her.

Hold on to the edge of your seat because you're in for a wild ride!

Callahan's debut novel FRACTURED LEGACY dives right into a world where ghosts, poltergeists and the unknown is completely normal for paranormal investigators Kaylyn and Cole Anderson. Something clearly is trying to mess with Kaylyn and things don't get easier when the agency the sisters work for, Aicil, gets a shakedown from higher up and the girls get a new boss, Jonah. Will the entity trying to take over Kaylyn consume her or can they figure out what is happening before it is too late?

Callahan uses fantastic imagery to set you up in places like the creepy, abandoned Teague Hotel and the stark, bare setting of Jonah's apartment.

This is a fast-paced read. Very enjoyable! I'm a self-proclaimed slow reader and I finished this one pretty quick. It is gripping. I love the characters and mystery of the Teague Hotel! This is a great book to read near Halloween.

The reader jumps into this universe, into Kaylyn's crazy life without much explanation, but soon enough everything is understandable. Although, I admit I would have appreciated more exposition.

Though very well developed, I kind of thought the main characters needed more dimensions. Kaylyn is overly stubborn and private, Cole is the caring sister and Jonah is strict and by-the-book. I thought Jonah is the most developed of all the characters and enjoyed him the most. I admit, like others I enjoyed the growing relationship between Kaylyn and Jonah. Although I don't ship them now, I could see myself being completely devoured by them in later books.

This novel reminds me a lot of the TV show ; I would be lying if I said I wasn't imaging the actors as these characters.

This is only the first book in the series and there are clearly more questions and adventures to be had a Aicil. I am totally looking forward to reading more by Skye Callahan.

Fractured Legacy is one incredible paranormal read. I loved every minute I was reading it. I mean there were so many twists and turns and so much paranormal activity going on that the book ended way to soon for me. I needed more of Jonah and Kaylyn.

Kaylyn who I like to call Kay is a paranormal investigator and she loves her job. Kay gets the chance to investigate The Teague Hotel to uncover the paranormal activities going on there. She is excited to be back in the game because she has had a rough go at it with her dreams and nightmares. But things get weird for her when reality and dreams seem to collide and she can't tell which is which. The hotel is haunted by a malevolent spirit that wants Kay and will do anything to get her. Kay will have to fight tooth and nail to get back to normal but she realizes that the only way to do that is to find the spirit and uncover it's negative presence.

Kay will enlist the help of her boss Jonah to help her show the other investigators she is not crazy. When Jonah experiences the bad spirit first hand he is determined to help Kay get rid of this spirit and bring her back some semblance of piece to her life.

Will the spirit leave or will it stay and raise havoc on Kay and her team? This book is so fast paced that I was drawn in and could not put it down. This is a great paranormal read for all who love this genre!

Not especially bad, but neither is it very good. We’re provided with what sounds like an interesting scenario about two sisters working for a company doing investigations of the supernatural. Of course no one, friends or family, can know what they’re really doing. The story mostly follows the older sister, Kaylyn who is seriously stressed from lack of sleep and nightmares she’s having which she doesn’t want to share with anyone.

It’s difficult to know whether Kaylyn’s personality is always so disagreeable—how much of it is stress related—but it seems likely from other things said. I certainly had a hard time feeling empathy for her even with the stuff she was dealing with, but that’s partly because we really aren’t given a reason to like her.

The scenarios are interesting, although we’re provided a somewhat chopping-flowing story. Some things are still not clear after finishing the book. The author also needs some help with editing, character building and pulling the reader into the story to feel the tension and emotions of the characters.

Two sisters, Kaylyn and Cole, work for a secret, but yet not-so-secret, paranormal investigation firm known as Aicil. After returning to the office from a case gone wrong, they find that their boss/mentor has been let go and that one of the sisters is on probation. They have one case to prove their worth. Investigate paranormal claims at the historic Teague Hotel.

I wasn’t very impressed with this one. The overall story was engaging enough, but the characters were less than one-dimensional and the dialogue was just bad. There was very little development of any of the characters and I couldn’t tell if this book was supposed to be targeting the young adult paranormal demographic or something else. It was a quick read, but I would recommend spending that time elsewhere.

I don't know what it was, but I just felt like something was missing. I enjoyed the book for the most part and it was really a quick read, I had just been so busy lately. It really needs to be revised, though. There were quite a few spelling and grammatical errors. I may or may not pick up another book by Skye, but I wouldn't be totally against it.

The story started off decently from the main character's point of view and then we jump right into the action. Kaylyn, the protagonist, is a dysfunctional character but understandably so which makes her relatable. I enjoyed all the characters I encountered, especially Jonah who was a resolute and steadfast character, even when it wasn't deserved which I loved about him. I felt the same with Cole, she was an excellent sister but not too perfect. I like that despite clashing personalities they all learned to get along with each other. I'd personally would like to see more individual character depth with the characters as we go on.

I felt that the story was a little slow in its pace to be considered thriller for me. It was definitely more paranormal, mystery, with a dash of horror. I didn't find myself bored at all, in fact, I found myself hitting the climax of the story quicker than I anticipated which is always a good thing. It actually helped cheer up my day as I was only planning on reading a little because I was tired but ended up having to finish it because I was so involved.

The writing was good and I enjoyed the story. It was an enticing read and the climax had me riveted until I finished the book. While I don't feel that the character's developed much, they did learn some surprising things which is later discussed in the sequel. You'll just have to read it to find out! It's free for a limited time so grab it now! *points above*

Overall, a good start to a paranormal investigator series! Highly recommended if you like paranormal situations mixed with mystery!

3.3 out of 5 rating for me!

Fractured Legacy (Fractured Legacy #1) was a good read by Skye Callahan. Kaylyn is a paranormal investigator who is excited to investigate the Teague Hotel. This is a beautiful historic in Chatham, Ohio with a rough past. She screws up a "pick-up" at the local historical society, to retrieve an occult object with unknown powers. Because of this, her new boss threatens to fire her and put an end to her career she's dreamed about her whole life. He decides to give her one more chance but everything continues to go terribly wrong. She experiences blackout and unexplainable dreams. There are fires and unrelenting attacks on her mind, body, and soul. She has to convince everyone around her that the threat isn't just in her head. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

While the book was interesting enough to make it a quick read for me, alas it was not good enough to justify more than a three star rating (at the lower end of the scale). In parts it felt rushed with too many questions pertaining the characters' backgrounds left open. The basic idea of the story was a good one and could have led to a great read if only it weren't so inconsistent, and full of gaps and annoying characters who probably thought they were protecting Kaylyn but in reality made all this mess possible (e.g. her parents who were 100% absent or the boss who knew what was going on and did nothing except saying "you shouldn't have let her in the hotel" afterwards...).

*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary review.*

3.5 / 5

This book was pretty good - not excellent, but not terrible either. It was a rather quick read as well. For a supernatural story, the story elements played heavily on the human reaction and experience, rather than hone in on the supernatural entities. I really liked the story following this route, as we were able to get inside the head of the MC and her sister. While I did enjoy, I do not believe I was the target audience for this. I would still recommend to any fan of supernatural thriller stories.

This is a wonderful read and I am blessed to have gotten an Advanced Review Copy of the e-book.

Skye Callahan has an amazing ability to keep me wanting to read more. I found as I got to the end of each chapter, I felt like I just HAD to know what happened next. I read this in a single day, over several sittings. While at work.

As for the book, it gets right into the story by quickly introducing us to two of the major players, Kaylyn and her sister Cole. They work for a unique investigative agency that is well known in their town, even if most do not know what exactly it is they do.

I identified quickly with Kaylyn, as she and I share the trait of hating to leave the bed. Especially in the early morning. Like....before noon! She is also very blunt at times, and can curse quite eloquently when the situation demands. (There isn't too much language in this book)

The book takes an interesting spin on the paranormal. This installment in the series has a spooky component that is just strong enough to keep you reading. It could have been scarier, but this is Ms. Callahan's first published novel. I look forward to reading the next installment in the series to see how she grows in her writing.

Over all, I would recommend this book to any paranormal fan. The characters are well written and compelling, as is the story.

Loved it

Great characters with a good paranormal twist.

A hotel owner asked the team by name to check out his hotel for ghost activity.
The team got more than they bargained for. The investigation leads to all kinds of craziness.

It is a fast paced book. I just had to turn the page to see what is going to happen next.

Too bad book two isn't available anymore.

The storyline and characters were fairly interesting and developed which did hold my interest. There were many twists and turns plus unexpected events that the reader most likely would not see coming. I would probably read the rest of the series even though there were numerous glaring errors throughout this book.

Scooby Doo-ish

While the general idea was somewhat interesting, the editing was sloppy at best and the story was very predictable. The characters and the action did remind me of watching Scooby Doo cartoons on Saturday mornings as a kid. I am not interested in reading the sequel.

(This review can be found on my blog ).

I read the blurb to this book, and I was instantly hooked! A spooky ghost story involving ghost hunters? Yes, please! Luckily, I wasn't disappointed by this book.

Kaylyn and her sister Cole both work for a company called Aicil as paranormal investigators. When Kaylyn gets the opportunity to investigate the creepy and old Teague Hotel, she jumps at the chance. However, bad things start happening to Kaylyn. She's being attacked by an unseen force, having blackouts as well as very strange dreams. Kaylyn can't understand whys he's being trageted specifically, but with her job, as well as her life on the line, she'd better figure it out...and quickly.

I love the cover of Fractured Legacy! It has a really creepy look to go with the rest of the book. I think the cover suits the book well, and with a cover like that, you know the contents will be creepy as well.

The world building was definitely believable. I felt like I was Kaylyn, and it was a book about me. That's how great of a job the author did. I was feeling scared right along Kaylyn and feeling frustrated when she did. I also loved the setting. A creepy hotel is one of my top places for spookiness.

The pacing did start out a bit slow, and I was wondering if I had made a mistake in agreeing to review this. Then, I felt as if the pacing just zoomed, and I was left wondering what had happened. Thankfully, after the first few chapters, the pacing settles down, and I couldn't read this story fast enough. It's definitely a page turner!

The plot was fantastic! Creepy stories with bad entities in them have been done a lot, but Skye Callahan turns that classic plot into her own. There are also a few plot twists which I didn't predict until a few chapters before they are revealed. As for the ending, it's not a big cliff hanger, but since this is going to be a series, it is left open for another book (which I can't wait to read). Oh, and there isn't much romance in this book. In fact, I can't think of any, but I'm not a big romance fan so I enjoyed that this story focused solely on what was going on with Kaylyn.

I loved Kaylyn. There were times I just wanted to hug her because I liked her that much. She endures a lot and often times feels like she is going insane. However, she's a very strong character and bounces back. I also like Jonah. At first, I found him to be a bit arrogant, but my heart melted towards him, and I found myself thinking what a kind and caring man he was. I was hoping he and Kaylyn would get together throughout the book because they seemed so great together. I did like Cole, but there's not a lot of her after the first few chapters. She does seem like a very caring sister though.

I enjoyed the dialogue and found that it flowed smoothly. It goes back and forth between Kaylyn's point of view and Jonah's. There are a few grammatical mistakes but nothing major. There are a few swear words, but nothing over the top.

Overall, Fractured Legacy is a creepy read that will leave you wanting more...and wanting to leave the lights on! It has a fantastic plot, a creepy setting, and well rounded characters.

I'd recommend this book to those age 17+ who truly want to read something spooky!

Oh my oh my. I’ve a lot I would like to say about this book but some of that would be considered spoilers, and I don’t want to do that. I was so happy when I was picked to do this blog tour, but also nervous at the same time. Paranormal, spirits and all things that can possess and go bump in the night are usually what I try to keep at arms length.

Well my husband travels a lot from work, and I can bet my scardy butt the minute he leaves the only thing I think about are the most scary things I’ve either read or watched. When I saw the cover to this book I put them fears aside and decided I was going to wear my big girl socks and read it.

I was so glad I did, I was not disappointed in any shape, way or form. The story follows Kaylyn and Cole (Nicole) Sisters who have the unusual job of investigating paranormal activity, sightings and the unexplained.

It starts with them having to retrieve a box. I was hooked from the start. Kaylyn is complex, complicated and suffers from nightmares. From the get go I knew she was going to be trouble (in a good way that is) From a failed mission and a new boss, one whose sole mission it is to fire her the story unfolded.

Jonah Troyer, her new boss has his own complications, being the son of one of the directors of the institute he has a lot to live up to. His first day is quite a doozy, a run in with Kaylyn and a vague call from the owner of the Teague hotel.

Renovations at the hotel have uncovered something, something that has the workers refusing to go back and he wants it cleaned up. Only he wants Kaylyn and Cole on the case. A request that sticks in Jonah’s throat.

What I loved about this book was Skye wrote the story unfolding it bit by bit, there wasn’t too much information you got the story in chapter 3, nor little enough where it got irritating. It was a golden, paranormal carrot just out of reach that made you want to keep reading. I know I did, I read it in one day.

The interaction between Kaylyn and Cole was spot on between sisters. The interaction between Kaylyn and Jonah was electric. I’d say I was a little disappointed they didn’t jump each other’s bones (well it was there, the electricity could’ve helped when the lights went out) but I actually think it enhanced the story of just wondering if they would get together. A little like Mulder and Scully.

Once the story was in place, the entity was after Kaylyn and it wasn’t stopping just because she was off the case it went from good to great to absolutely biting my nails. The ending scenes had me on the edge of my seat, behind a cushion hugging my dog.

There is something in the whole tell everyone where you are at all times, don’t be lulled by a paranormal entity to the scary, desolate hotel alone that Kaylyn should’ve listened too. But thankfully she didn’t and the ending was brilliant.

This is Skye’s first book, and the first in a series. She did an amazing job. Fans of Anna Dressed in Blood will lap this up. I’m a fan, keep them coming Skye.

This debut paranormal urban fantasy has a lot going for it. You've got your headstrong smart heroine (along with her equally headstrong sister), a slightly mysterious handsome man who comes in and upsets the balance of a lot of things in the heroine's life, and an entity that can seemingly cause the heroine to black out, do things she doesn't remember, and wants to kill her. Add in a creepy haunted hotel, a little misdirection, and a dollop of romantic tension and you've got yourself a winner.

Fractured Legacy is the story of Kaylyn, a paranormal investigator who works for Aicil, a mysterious and rather large organization that we only scratch the surface of in this book. She's partnered with her sister, Cole, a year younger, but definitely the more responsible of the two. Kaylyn is sometimes flippant, irreverent, and careless. But she's smart and though her common sense takes a walk off a pier several times in the book, for the most part, she's got a good head on her shoulders.

The two sisters' lives are thrown in to chaos when a new boss, Jonah Troyer comes to town and takes over the local Aicil office. He's been given orders to force Kaylyn out (Cole too potentially) but he decides that he needs to make up his own mind before ending their careers. Along the way, he starts to realize that there is more to Kaylyn than meets the eye. The relationship between the two was fascinating. It wasn't romantic, though there is obviously the possibility for that in the future. Honestly though, I really enjoy the way the two play off of each other and I'm not sure that will work if things turn steamy in a future book.

Though Kaylyn was obviously intended to be the star of this book, it's Jonah who really captured my interest. He was so well done as a character and his emotions, his reasoning, and his choices really held me. The chapters alternate between points of view and Jonah's chapters were my favorite.

The book has a few minor issues which kept me from rating it 5 stars. It ends a little too quickly. I wanted an epilogue or at least a few more lines between Jonah and Kaylyn to cement their feelings about each other and the future. I wanted more backlash with what happened in Cole's home. [And there were a couple of other questions I had that I can't detail because...spoilers!] I thought the resolution to the main conflict was very well done, but even that could have benefitted from one or two more paragraphs of explanation.

There were some formatting and editing issues that occasionally stuck out for me (extra spaces, commas, etc), but they weren't so egregious that they detracted from the story. However, I'd hope that a future re-release might fix them.

I think this series has great potential. I want to see where all of these characters go and I will definitely be purchasing future books. The author has true talent for pacing and emotion, and I think future books will only improve on what is truly an excellent beginning to the series.

I received a review copy of this book for my stop on the blog tour at .

Shiver-inducing, creepy-crawly, and spine-tingling all best describe how I felt while reading Fractured Legacy. This is the perfect time of year to read about a young paranormal investigator with an entity targeting her. I wasn't expecting to get freaked out while reading this novel, but with all the lights off and only the screen softly glowing, I definitely did. And I love that feeling!

Kaylyn and her sister, Cole, are paranormal investigators at the same agency. They walk into work one day to find they have a new boss, and his name is Jonah. Right away, Kaylyn and Jonah grate on each other's nerves, but also a sort of attraction is there as well. It was fun to see them interact - Kaylyn doesn't take crap from anyone, not even her boss. Sometimes I slightly cringed since you should be somewhat respectful with the person who has the power to fire you, right? ;)

Kaylyn and Cole are assigned to investigate possible paranormal activity at the Teague Hotel. First of all, how awesome would it be to get paid as a paranormal investigator?? I'd like to think I'd be super brave but can't help thinking I'd most likely be too afraid to go searching for otherworldly happenings! However Kaylyn is plagued by nasty nightmares, and they only become more frightening after she's stepped foot in the hotel.

Kaylyn, Jonah, and Cole make a terrific team. The dynamics between them make for some entertaining situations they get themselves into. They just work well together, and it only took them getting through their irritation with each other to reach that point.

My only issue with Fractured Legacy, which is a small thing that didn't diminish my enjoyment of the book overall, was that Cole assumed Kaylyn's problems were due only to a breakup. The possibility of something otherworldly going on never entered her mind, and for someone who is a paranormal investigator and supposed to know her sister so well, I thought that was strange. It took some time warming up to Cole; she was more concerned with how Kaylyn's behavior affected herself rather than how it was affecting Kaylyn.

With the above set aside, Skye Callahan kept me guessing in Fractured Legacy - I couldn't read quickly enough! There were secrets that came out which I never saw coming, and I couldn't believe those revelations. I'm hooked on this series and am ready for the next novel!

Fractured Legacy is one of my favorite paranormal books. It was a nice break from the hot and heavy books that I wrap myself around and or hooked on.

The thing about this book that had me most intrigued is the spirits and ghosts. I love ghosts!!!!

Kaylan is by far my favorite character! Her I don’t care, tough girl attitude is great! At first she seems off her game; but that’s what puts the jumor into this book. It’s exciting, funny, and has romance all wrapped up in one book.

Kaylan’s job consists of hunting down spirits, ghosts, demons, entities, you name it; they hunt. The kicker about this job is that the public knows nothing about their job. It’s a secret to the public and to their families. Well most of their family members.

Kaylan has a sister that works right along side of her. Lucky though her sister Cole has been trying to pull Kaylan out of a slump has she seems to be in because it’s starting to affect her job. To make matters worse their old boss gets replaced with a much younger and good looking Jonah Troyer. The problem with Jonah is that he’s a by the book kind hard ass boss or so he wants to be. Jonah is not impressed with Kaylan’s attitude and work lately. Which puts him in a peculiar situations at times.

The mishap with their jobs lands Kaylan under probation almost losing her job along with her sisters job.

The reason for Kaylan’s lackadaisical attitude runs much deeper than just the normal ex-boyfriend/men problems. Now it is up to Jonah, Kaylan, and Cole to get to the bottom of Kaylan’s strange actions in a certain haunted building that they have to investigate.

The entities are intriguing with their strengths and paranormal activities.
This book will keep you reading because of the strange entities they come into contact with. You’ll keep the pages turning just to find out what kind of relationships that are blossoming between Kaylan and Jonah.. I’m not telling you what kind of relationships.. You will have to read it for yourself.

Fractured Legacy by Skye Callahan

FUNNY, SCARY, AND DOWN-RIGHT AWE-INSPIRING

Kaylyn, Cole, and Jonah

Well peeps, this is normally not my genre and I usually don't even write reviews for them, but this one just called out to me and, well, here I am! It's definitely not what I thought it was going to be, but then again what book is. This is not a love story filled with sexual tension. This is a ghost story of sorts with a shit ton of anxiety to go with it! Thanks Skye! My heart palpitations have finally subsided!!

Our Main characters are Kaylen, her sister Cole, and their boss Jonah. There are more people involved in this story, but I feel it necessary to address the main characters only because they're the ones you'll be engulfed in. When I say engulfed, I mean they're going to be the three who will suck you in, make you laugh, and even scare the ever-lovin' shit out of you! Kaylen is as fucked up as they come, and not by choice! Although I think she's a little out there to begin with! She's being sought out by an entity and it makes her do and say funny things. I found myself going back to reread because I wasn't sure who said what, Kaylen or the entity! LOL! Her sister Cole is just as funny if not funnier. She's a "no hold barred" kinda girl and believe me, some of the shit that comes flying out of her mouth, holy hell! Now Jonah, well, he of course comes across as a total prick, but slowly wins my heart and trust for that matter! Hotness and brains, who knew!

All is all, it's a superbly written tale and flows very nicely. The pacing is good and keeps you turning pages in record time! It's 150 (Kindle version) pages long and from chapter one to chapter eighteen I was hooked! Too many highs and lows to mention and the climax was perfect! Nice job Skye, you've got a frontrunner here!

4 stars!

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars

Fractured Legacy is a suspenseful paranormal mystery that drew me in from the very first scene and didn't let go until I snapped my Kindle closed at the end. Though it is listed as book 1 in a series, I'm happy to report this is a standalone novel with an actual ending, and a satisfying one at that. Yea! Ms. Callahan has combined two very intriguing characters with a great storyline to create a fast-paced supernatural tale.

Female protagonist, Kaylyn, has a sardonic appeal that I really enjoyed. Her antics constantly made me laugh, and I only laughed harder at her witty quips. Kaylyn is being pursued by a supernatural force that is affecting every aspect of her life. She finds herself seeking the help from her new boss, much to her dismay. While I loved Kaylyn, I didn't like her sister Cole very much. She was always so patronizing to Kaylyn, it drove me crazy.

New boss Jonah is one of the nicest guys I've run across in a long time. He's so willing to help Kaylyn through some crazy supernatural issues, even though she bad mouthed him and was all around nasty. Jonah has an interesting past that is hinted at, but he never reveals it to Kaylyn. Hopefully in the next book he'll reveal the events that led to his re-assignment.

I enjoyed the plot, following Kaylyn and Cole along on their supernatural investigations was fun. The interactions between Kaylyn and Jonah were amusing and entertaining. Ms. Callahan weaved remarkably vivid images that helped create the eerie environment of the story. I recommend Fractured Legacy to everyone 17+ that enjoys a creepy, yet fun paranormal story.
