Molly Arbuthnott Good question. Maybe the mystery of how to find a true happiness that sustains so that you always wake up every day feeling like it is Christmas! (Or the mystery of the disappearing chocolate bar- I think a member of my family may be guilty for this one!)
Molly Arbuthnott I am working on a story called Athena the cheetah, it is a story about a cheetah who was a friend of mine when I lived in Kenya. The story stands as a tribute to the restorative power of animals.
Molly Arbuthnott I have never believed writers block is a thing. I find I either have an idea or I don’t. And if I don’t it is normally my brain telling me I need to go and do a different activity for a while, like some baking!
Molly Arbuthnott My stories gravitate around the lives of animals. I used to go to London zoo a lot when I lived in London. Now I am in Scotland I am very lucky as I have so much wildlife around me and so I can be inspired by a short walk to the river and all the animals I meet on my way.
Molly Arbuthnott It started as a creak, every night at 12:03 that woke Mary up, only for the figure to disappear when she turned on her bedside light. But then, on the 13th February at 12:03 a man was there, covered in blood and holding a gun aimed right at heart, and he would not disappear until his job was done.
Molly Arbuthnott Summer still seems so far away so I am not sure about a summer list yet- I also try to read books all the time, not just in the summer. Top of my list at the moment though is Shuggie Bain which my mother has just read and says is very good.
Molly Arbuthnott I would travel to the swamp where Kya lives in 'where the crawdads sing.' It would be a lovely tranquil place and surrounded by such beauty that one couldn't fail but to be engaged by it all. I would sit and write my stories and have a little boat that I could sail in when I needed a break from my writing.
Molly Arbuthnott That you can live life under your own terms rather than anyone else and you can essentially write your own future if you want to. It also gives you the ability to escape into amazing fantasy lands and have the most incredible adventures all from the comfort of your own home!
Molly Arbuthnott Carry a book anywhere you go so you can write down your ideas when they come to you and keep a book beside your bed too so you can write your ideas down as well if you dream them up.
Remember you write the rules so anything is possible in your book- let your imagination go wild and just keep going. Always believe in yourself and have faith.
Molly Arbuthnott My latest book is a lockdown book which I have put together with the children and community around Dunkeld. It was lots of fun to do and the idea was to generate something positive out of the lockdown experience we have all endured. We are also raising money for the Parish of Dunkeld through book sales too.
I am hoping it will encourage other people to create lockdown books too.
