DNF: I think I got this book confused for another one. I was willing to give it a try, but that opening sequence... I just knew this was going to be a tough read with a lot of triggers, and I'm not in the place for that. ]]>

Elizabeth Zott is recognizable to any woman who works in STEM - because even though it's set in a different era, the battles she fights are all too familiar.

I put off reading this longer than I should have. I typically wait out the hype to get into highly publicized books like this one. That, of course, was a mistake.

I loved that Elizabeth Zott never gave up on her standards, even when her soulmate made her offers of marriage & unnecessary support. I love that he loved her so much, that he accepted what she could give him. I loved that their two big brains created Mad, a wonderfully bright creature. I couldn't help but worry about 6:30 throughout, another terrific, smart creature.

But I'm so happy with where this book ended. So worth the read. ]]>

I do not recommend finishing this while driving... you will be blinking back tears and miss a red light. I say this from experience.

What a beautiful love story. Both Jonah and Kacey were missing something from their lives -- her a little stability, and him a little break from routine. They met at the best / worst time. This one has the perfect blend of spice and just all around love. I'm a little upset because now I need to sprint into book 2 to feel like the story is finished. But that's something to look forward to this weekend.

Thanks to NetGalley and RBMedia for the audible arc -- I can be picky with my audiobooks, but the narrators were lovely. Not too over the top, just the right kind of emotion. Loved the duet version.

I will be getting a copy of All In as soon as I can. ]]>

It feels strange to give a non-fiction book a star rating (what, I don't like the way you compiled data?), but let's use the 4/5 stars as the ratio of how this made me feel vs. the observations and interpretations of the early 2000's.

I was initially drawn to this book because of the discourse on Sabrina Carpenter's most recent album cover, as well as my own relationship to women artists. You can't help but see your own music tastes in a new light when Diddy (who controlled so much of what we listen to) is on trial for sex trafficking.

This book, however, exists more in the realm of early 2000s entertainment. You go through the birth of online revenge porn; the sexualization of underaged girls (uniforms, American Beauty, etc.); the effect of reality television and the desire to not listen to a woman telling her story because we'd rather hear it from a man or the tabloids.

It was a tough listen, and took me several days to get through as a result. But even with the limited scope, I find it a very important read just for the self awareness and second look at my own interests. ]]>
