Star Wars: Convergence is the first adult novel in Phase 2 of The High Republic, and while it has some flaws, it’s one of the stronger entries so far. I liked that it focused on just a few characters and stayed mostly in one place Eiram and E’ronoh two planets locked in a long war. The story was easy to follow, and I appreciated the world-building and character moments, especially with Gella, who stood out as a Jedi trying to keep peace during tense times. Unfortunately, like other High Republic books, the villain’s motivations weren’t clear by the end, which made the ending feel weak. Still, I enjoyed the slower pace and strong setting, and I hope future books build on this approach.

"I enjoyed this follow up to Kings of the Wyld but did not find it as fresh or as compelling an experience, in part because this setting is now more familiar and in part because this one's protagonist, Tam, just didn't strike me as particularly interesting. This, of course, could just be down to my bias as a reader: the previous MC was a middle-aged man struggling with notions of loyalty, responsibility and his own mortality and in this book we have a wide-eyed teenage girl in search of adventure, romance and identity. No surprise I can relate much more to the former over the latter!

I enjoy Eames' writing, even (or perhaps especially) the tongue in cheek Classic Rock references so I can see myself reading the third book once it comes out. Let's see what residual mischief those rabbit eared rascals get up to next!

Asa is really trying to be friends with a normal girl. Or so she thinks. Soon into this volume things get flipped upside down, and people's desires and secrets cause them to make a pact with these devils and of course makes life way worse.

Some really cool action, some weird as hell shit, and some funny bits. This volume got it all, with it's offbeat pace of very fast at times. "
