Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
""A few days after that, Katniss showed up with an old basket filled with goose eggs. [...] Never mind that we had roast goose for dinner. She’s not an easy person; she’s like me, Peeta always says.

But she was smarter than me, or luckier. She’s the one who finally kept that sun from rising.""

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
"Reading Sunrise on the Reaping felt like willingly walking into a chainsaw.

I knew how this story ended because we’ve met Haymitch in The Hunger Games, and our sweet summer child is a walking pile of PTSD and liquor bottles. But knowing didn’t help. It just made every moment of camaraderie, his infinite capacity to love and every tiny spark of resistance feel even more tragic.

Worst book hangover of my life. 11/10, and wondering if I will ever feel joy again.

This book broke me.

Those complaining about "too many cameos" are missing the point. Suzanne shows us how the events of Catching Fire were possible: both the prior groundwork laid in coalition building and the motives of the rebels into whose minds Katniss had no insight.

And to look at the way that propaganda consumed the lived truth of Haymitch's games and call it "retconning" is missing the point too. The point of propaganda is to rewrite events, to spin a narrative that serves you. What we learned about Haymitch has had a quarter of a century to percolate in the Capital's propaganda. Suzanne is showing us the fruits of that evil. ]]>

I'm baffled and disturbed by the readers who think this prequel is at all sympathetic to Snow. He's painted as a sociopath, a coward, and a remorseless murderer. ]]>
