There’s a saying, ‘tragedy plus time equals comedy,’ and this book is a perfect example of that. It is super hilarious, at the same time, discusses several serious issues like apartheid, religion, racism, sexism, the poverty loop, and unemployment. But what truly has my heart is the dynamic between Trevor and his mom. ]]>

I almost never listen to audiobooks without having the book open in front of me, otherwise, my mind wanders off to places I-don’t-even-know-where. Generally, there are two reasons I pick up an audiobook. One, I absolutely love the narrator, I’d listen to them read instruction manuals and still be entertained. Two, I really want to finish a book but can’t seem to focus or keep up the pace. Doubling up on input, eyes and ears, is how I stay on track. I picked this one up for the first reason, and Trevor Noah did not disappoint me.

So short, yet so mesmerizing. It fills your heart profoundly, and cracks it open too. It also makes you hopeful that the warmth of human friendships may not be as ephemeral as humans themselves. Miss Helen made me a fan of her epic sense of humor.

First five stars of this year. 🖤 ]]>

Not bad. The main twist really made my jaw drop, but then again, the surprise worked mainly because the author misled the readers. I’m not a fan of being misled like that.

This book made me aware of three things. First, the Scottish Highlands might be the most beautiful, unspoiled place in the world. Now I’m really looking forward to visiting there, if luck allows, maybe next year. That is, if a few things, including world peace, remain stable.

Second, I learned that there are traditional themes for anniversary gifts, which I had never heard of before. Made me feel like I’ve been living under a rock 😆. Third, and the obvious one, that there’s a cognitive disorder called prosopagnosia, or face blindness.

---

Finished reading this book, wrote the review, and then went grocery shopping. On my way, saw a Robin Redbreast (European Robin) for the first time. This book uses an icon of the same bird as the chapter ornament for its nine chapters titled 'Robin'. It's been more than two months since we moved to Dublin, could have encountered one any day. Could be a coincidence, or frequency illusion, or the entire universe could be a simulation. Who knows!
