Smitten in Santorini

Rate this book
Mick Laughlin can handle anything – except a broken heart. He never understood why the girl he loved in college suddenly turned her back on him and he’s avoided romance ever since. Now a top young architect at his family's firm, he’s been sent all over the globe to work on elite projects. Four years ago, Melina Lakkas fell in love with her younger brother’s best friend. When his family made it clear they would never accept her, she walked away. It was a no-win situation, which would have been made worse had they discovered her secret. When Mick takes on the design and execution of an exclusive resort in Santorini, he plans to stay as far away from Athens—and Lena—as possible. Then a fire at the job site leaves him with no choice but to call on his best friend’s sister for help. As secrets from the past unravel, can Mick forgive her long enough to forgive himself?

More OTT drama than an episode of Dynasty, ridiculously so at points, but short enough to keep it enjoyably bearable.

Smitten in Santorini is what second chance romances are made of!

This quick read has so much flowing from its pages…long-kept secrets and undying love, layered with suspenseful treachery and betrayal. This love story shines a bright light on how relationships will never survive without communication, honesty, and faith.

The characteristics of Mick and Lena mirror one another completely. Both share the joyous yet heartbreaking past of loving each other, as well as the lurking insecurities of not fighting hard enough for one another. Add in the unknown forces that broke them apart, we find that only Lena holds the answers as to why everything fell apart.

Resigned to the fact that maybe she didn’t love him, Mick is eager to find out what exactly went wrong and why Lena left him hurt and heartbroken. But amid recapturing their connection with each other, it’s outside forces that become the most challenging and leaves them with more questions once again. It makes you contemplate the possibility of their past somewhat repeating itself.

I really liked this story. The passion and chemistry between Mick and Lena was evident from the very beginning of their reconciliation, and the heartwarming actions taken to ensure their love and loyalty is what matters most to them both were pure emotional romance. I also loved reconnecting with Apollo and Paige from Adonis in Athens, which only made this book that much more entertaining.

If you enjoy whimsical love stories with a flair for drama and intrigue, then Smitten in Santorini is the novella for you. An overall great read!

4 Stars!

Secrets never stay hidden forever….

And Melina had a doozy! She and Mick were sweethearts and lovers but when she ended their relationship, Mick was understandably bitter. He turned that bitterness into ambition as he focused on his studies and his dream of becoming an architect. He was following in his family’s footsteps and each project solidified his position at the firm. Melina had to find her own way and she did, despite the challenges she faced. When Melina was unexpectedly assigned to Mick’s latest project in Greece, anger was just the first emotion….

“True love is never foolish.”

Whew! This novella was filled to the brim with high emotion as well as secrets and suspense. Melina’s decisions weren’t made on a whim and when she and Mick finally get past the initial anger so many secrets come to light. Some happy, some absolutely unforgiveable, this was not a roller coaster ride but a carousel of up and down emotions. I couldn’t help but feel for these two people who’s lives were choreographed by other people. When they found their stride, though, when they fought for themselves it was a joy to “see”.

There’s a lot filling these pages and, even as I wished it didn’t feel so rushed, I enjoyed every one of those pages…

A novella that will have you smitten!

A fantastic second chance romance! Smitten in Santorini by Kat Mizera is the perfect summer read. A captivating read full of twists and turns. Definitely a page turner!

Mick and Lena had broken each others hearts, neither really fighting for the love they shared. Four years later Mick starts a project in Greece, while there he is faced with some challenges. Needing the help of someone native, who speaks the language, he reaches out to his best friend for help. He was not expecting his best friend to send his sister, Lena, to help. She had always been the one that got away, the woman who broke his heart.

Lena thought she had lost Mick years back, with a broken heart, she made a life for herself without him. Four years laters she is met with the man she had never stopped loving. The chemistry was instantaneous, even years later they were drawn to each other. But that did not mean their relationship was salvageable, Lena was harboring the biggest secret of her life and if Mick found out, there was no going back.

When things get complicated and secrets start spilling Lena and Mick have to fight this time, they got a second chance and neither was willing to give up this time.

This novella was absolutely wonderful, it is the second book in the Romancing Europe Series. I loved Mick and Lena, but I also loved getting to read about the characters from Adonis in Athens, book one in the series. One of the things I love most about Kat Mizera is that she always gives us an eventful story, and this was no exception. A must read!!

You’ll be smitten too… (4.5 stars)

Kat Mizera does it again with this delightful and absolutely enjoyable summer read! Smitten in Santorini is the second book in Kat Mizera’s Romancing Europe series. You will fall in love with the main characters as fate gives them another chance at love. Four years ago, Melina (Lena) Lakkas fell in love with her brother’s best friend, Mick Laughlin. Despite her family’s wealth and name in Greece, his family would never accept her – especially if they found out the secret that she kept hidden, so she did the only thing she could at the time – left the love of her life and headed back to Greece.
When Mick, now an architect, undertakes the design and project management of the exclusive resort Lena’s brother wants to launch, Lena’s and Mick’s worlds collide again, and can the secrets of the past stay hidden and can Mike find forgiveness in his heart to let Lena back into his life.
This was another fantastic read from one of my favorite authors and it is a completely sweet, sassy and flirty second chance romance read. Truly enjoyable and I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Wow I really enjoyed this book, I do love a second chance romance, and though with Santorini as the backdrop what could be better for reading on our summer holidays at home or abroad.
Lena hasn’t seen the love of her life for four years, and it couldn’t happened at a worse time. Her sister Sofia is going through a divorce, and Lena is looking after her little boy.
This is a lovely romance as Mick and Lena find out they still feel the same. Working together they have more time to sort out misunderstandings. This is a sweet sexy hot read, just perfect to read while relaxing. The is a quick read, but an entertaining and heartwarming one. I was left with a big smile, and was left with a feel good factor. What more do you want ?

2nd chances

Mick is Lena's brother's best friend so it made sense to ask her to help when Mick is in need of help in Santorini however they have a history. Mick and Lena were in love when Lena was given the choice of destroying Mick's future or breaking both their hearts, she chose the later. Mick had no idea what happened, one minute he was going to tell his friend Apollo that he was in love with his and sister and the next she was gone. When the site of a building he is overseeing faces arson attacks, Mick needs a local to make sure he is not being fobbed off, Apollo sends Lena. This is the chance Mick needs to get answers but will they bring them together again or force each other further apart
Another fab read from Kat Mizera and an amazing backdrop to a beautiful story

This was a sweet second chance romance. When Mick finds himself working in Greece, where the love of his life is from, he knows he will run into her eventually. But little does he know, Lena never told him the truth four years ago and he demands answers now.

This book has heat, drama, and fun loving characters. I’d recommend this book.

After getting to know both Lena and Mick I was rotting for them to get their HEA. There was some unexpected twists that kept thing quite interesting. I love the descriptions of Greece because I could picture the beautiful settings in my mind. This is definitely worth a read!

When architect Mick Laughlin finds himself working on a huge project in Greece, he’s bombarded with memories of Lena, the girl who left him behind with no explanation four years ago. When the site he is working on is sabotaged by arson, Mick reaches out to his best friend Apollo for help finding an interpreter. He didn’t expect him to send his younger sister, Lena to handle the job. But, now that she’s back in his life, Mick wants to know what pushed her away all those years ago.

Melina Lakkas never meant to fall in love with her older brother’s best friend. When his family made it clear they didn’t think she was good enough for him and threatened Mick’s future at the family’s architectural firm, Lena did what she thought was best for Mick. She left him so he could have a successful future.

Thrown together four years later by circumstances, Lena’s desperate to keep the secret she’s hidden from Mick because she fears he can never forgive her. As the past begins to unravel before them, Mick and Lena will need to discover if they can forgive past hurts or if their chance at happiness ended four years ago all while trying to investigate who is sabotaging Mick’s jobsite and why.

Smitten in Santorini was a fabulous second chance romance and follow up to Adonis in Athens. (It can definitely be read as a stand alone). Mick is successful and doing what he loves, but he’s never quite been able to move on from Melina. While she’s strong and independent, Lena’s struggled with the decisions she made four years ago and has had to live with since. When fate brings this couple together, it’s clear their attraction still exists, yet the walk on eggshells. When past truths are finally revealed both Mick and Lena struggle with how to move forward.

As this couple explores giving their love a second chance, Kat Mizera has woven in a great suspense element that leaves readers guessing as to who wants to ruin Mick’s job and why. As all the pieces are revealed and things fall into place, Mick and Lena’s relationship and path forward also becomes clearer. It’s a fabulous mix of romance and suspense perfectly married together by the author.

Smitten in Santorini was a quick and fun summer read with a fabulous happy ever after and beautiful imagery of the Greek island that will pull readers right into the story. 4 stars!

Smitten in Santorini: Romancing Europe Book Two by Kat Mizera
Another awesome book by Kat Mizera. They are quick reads that pack a lot into them. The exotic place we are taken to are breathtaking and exciting to read about. Her characters are over exaggerated or arrogant. It is just fun to read.
This installment centers around Melina Lakkas (aka Lena) and Michael Laughlin (aka Mick). The fell in love four years ago when they were in college. Lena left without an explanation leaving Mick to try to understand and fix his broken heart. Since that time, they have been in separate countries trying to forget the love they shared.
Mick has is a brilliant architect working for his family’s firm working on the projects all over the world. His latest project is in Santorini Greece and the closest he has been to his love in four years. Lena lives in Athena’s and Mick plans to stay clear at all cost. Fate has other ideas and he is forced to reach out to his best friend Apollo (Lena’s younger brother) to help with translation for a fire that has happened at the project site.
Lena has not been able to find a job that she can use her degree for. So, she has been helping the family until she finds a better job. She has never gotten over Mick and doesn’t want to see him to re-live the heartbreak she endured at the hands of his family. She is sent to Santorini to be Mick’s translator. What can possibly happen?
Well let me tell you there are secrets, betrayal, love, loss, and criminal activity that had this reader eager to turn the pages. Kat never ceases to amaze me with her twisted tales and scenarios her characters find themselves in and the exotic landscapes that are painted before us. This novella has everything you could want in a book and I highly recommend all of Kat’s books.

5 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review

Lena and Mick are amazing. I love this couple, I love this story, and I love the backstory. Lena has a secret. One that has been hidden for years. But what start with the best of intentions has now become something that will shake Lena. Lena is just trying to do what she can to get by, but when asked to be the interpreter for the man she walked away from four years ago, she's not sure she can. I loved Lena. She created a life for herself after having her heart broke, mostly by her own doing. I loved that she finally got everything she deserved in the end.

Mick, where to start with Mick. Mick is in Greece to work on an architectural project. When a fire of unknown cause destroys the plans, Mick is forced to find someone who can speak the language to help with the investigation. Having Lena around could be dangerous for Mick. She's the one that destroyed him and he doesn't know why. She walked away from everything they had four years ago with no warning. Now he needs her, but will his feelings get in the way? He needs to keep his head on straight to figure out what is happening on his site.

I loved every odd twist and turn in this story. Kat Mizera has become one of my favorite authors out there. I love all her stories. This one is no exception. I loved every single second of it. If you're looking for an amazing story with great characters and lots of feels, this is it.

Perfect second-chance romance!

Mick and Lena find themselves working together, four years after she disappeared on him and broke both their hearts. Her reappearance in his life coincides with the impending unavoidable revealing of her biggest secret, so she's beyond vulnerable and filled with trepidation for what the future holds for her family.

Mick just wants answers - he doesn't know what he did to send her away, and as much as he wants her back, he really just wants to know she's OK. When he figures out what happened, wow! He turns into a Man On A Mission and woe to anyone who stands in his way!

I loved the romance, I loved the way Mick took on his family in defense of His Family. The secondary storyline surrounding his father's business was very well done, with its own unexpected secrets and surprise twists. This is a terrific summer read, though I enjoyed the book so much I do wish it was longer. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Kat Mizera takes you back to Greece with Smitten in Santorini and to my favorite Yaya. I love how you are just drawn in and are fully immersed into Greek life. This may be a quick read but it has everything you want from secrets to second chance romance and a bit of a mystery. Most of all you have the amazing Lakkas family. Mick is Apollo's best friend and in Greece working on a project. With him back Lena feels the pressure to let the big secret she is carrying out. I love Lena and how she is when it comes to family. You can feel the love between Mick and Lena even after years apart. I love how they just seamlessly fit together as they solve the mystery of what is going on at the job site. Even when secrets come out the love is still strong between Lena and Mick. A perfect summer beach romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed this second chance romance. It was a great, fast read they drew me in and left me smiling at the end. Mick and Lena’s story has been in the making over the course of years. They dated in college secretly since Lena was Mick’s best friend’s sister. When things got serious, she ran home to Greece. 4 years later, when Mick’s job brings him to Greece and face to face with the love of his life, will secrets, lies, and family ties keep them apart or draw them together. This story had just the right amount of angst, suspense, love, lust, and heat. This is a great summer read for the beach or poolside! Helen

Smitten in Santorini (Romancing Europe Book 2) by Kat Mizera is a second chance romance. Mick and Lena were the perfect couple in college, unfortunately something happened which ended their love story. Fast forward 4 years later , they are forced to work together in Santorini due to arson issues happening on Mick project. Mick and Lena have history and chemistry—their chemistry is so intense and steamy. This love story is filled with heat, secrets, betrayal, drama, angst, passion and intrigue. What an awesome 2nd chance at love romance that shows the beauty that is Lean and Mick’s love story. What a fantastic story!!!

I love reading novella's when I get into a funk or need something to read while I'm waiting for another book. I read this blurb and decided I needed to take a chance reading this. I'm glad I did. This book was so easy to read. You can't help but fall in love with Mick and Melina. Oh and let's not forget Mihalis! This book was full of love and friendship, along with suspense. It will definitely hold your attention. Though this book is #2 in this series it can definitely be read as a standalone, as that is what I did. If you're looking for a great short read definitely try this one out. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*

I had been waiting for Mick and Melina's story since we were introduced to them in Adonis in Athens and it did not disappoint. Mick and Lena were a couple in college, unfortunately some things happened that broke them apart, but did the feelings go away? Forced to work together years later put them back in close proximity. Can they work together to solve the mystery of what is happening on the work site and deal with their pasts and move toward their second chance?

Lena and Mick are a great couple with great chemistry. Add to that the the beautiful scenery that is Santorini and you have the makings of a wonderful second chance romance to not be missed!

Greece, the sights, the food, the Lakkas family. Mick Laughlin and Melina Lakkas fell in love when they were in college in the U.S., but just as Mick was about to pop the question Lena took off. Now Mick is an architect working on a project in Greece. When he feels the need to have someone who speaks Greek Lena ends up back in his life. Now, they have to face their true feelings for each other.

‘Smitten in Santorini’ is a lovely second chance love story. I liked the Lakkas family’s close ties, especially Yaya. I was saddened that Mick can from such a dysfunctional family, but he turned out well and fit in perfectly with Lena’s family.

This book is the second book in this series. I feel it is better to read them in order but, you can read it without reading book one and not be lost. This book is about Lena and Mick. Lena is the sister to Apollo from book one. When she was in college she had a relationship with Apollo's best friend. It didn't end well. Lots of questions with no answers for Mick. Fast forward four years and she is thrown back into the mix with him. Clearly, they are still both in love with each other. But is that all they need? I loved this book! There was a lot going on that I am hoping will continue to book 3.

I loved it

Mick is busy trying to get his architectural career off the ground, he's working for his fathers firm but he still must prove himself, he's in a foreign country and someone has just set his site on fire and put the whole project over budget, and behind schedule. Lina can help him with translation when speaking with the inspectors, and insurance agents, but it will be harder to concentrate when she is there because he has never gotten over loving her, he was about to ask her to marry him when she disappeared, he never knew that she disappeared because his mother paid her to go away. Now they have a second chance, can they get past all the hurt!?

An easy Summer read with just the right amount of romance, emotion, humor and love. Lena is asked to help her brother's best friend translate for him while he works on an architectural project in Greece. Lena agrees because she will do anything to help her brother. Secretly Lena knows this will cost her greatly as she has been in love with her brother's friend Mike since college and she has been holding on to a secret for some time that could change everyone's world. Just the right novella for anyone who has dreamed of the shores of Greece and is a hopeless romantic.

Melina and Mick have a past and as much as Melina tries to keep her distance from Mick it's hard to do as he is her brothers best friend and now she has to work with Mick and the reasons for her walking out of Micks life are about to come to head. Mick needs answers and now that Melina is here he is going to get them as he knows he has never gotten over her and his feelings are just as strong as ever but is he going to like the answers he gets? The way the story unfolds keeps you in suspense as we start to find out why she walked away years ago and how she feels about him as well as who is behind the fire. The characters are great, the twists and surprises just keep coming and makes it a fantastic read!

I was a bit disappointed with this book.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but I felt with this book that it had too 'complicated" storylines for such a short book. These storylines would have worked better if the book was longer so there was more time to dive into the emotions and drama. Now everything was just accepted and glossed over without much trouble. It felt flat for me.
