Ron Ripley

237 books498 followers
Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.

Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.

A good collection of stories by Ron Ripley.

These six ghost stories are a series of books that follows Brian as he uses his psychic connections to solve mysteries while also sending ghosts away.

A very good collection with the right amount of suspense. Not very scary, though. 3 stars ✨ for low scares.

I'm pretty sure I've been reading Ripley's books out of order, series-wise at least. In the Moving In series, we are introduced to Brian in Jenny (who also appear in the Berkley street series).

This is a great start to this set of books. There are tons of ghosts and we learn how Brian and Jenny become participants in the ghost world. Since I've been reading out of order, it was cool to find out the back stories on characters I didn't realize had roots in other series. Seeing their progress as they learn to navigate this world was quite interesting. This book has several mean ghosts and we are introduced to a bunch of characters we see more of in later books as well as other series.

As with the Berkley series books, once I got started I couldn't stop reading. I've had several late nights of reading as I've fallen in love with this author's storytelling. I will say there are more errors and things that weren't present in later series, but in my opinion, that just means he is growing as an author or he's gotten a better editor since then.

Overall, I highly recommend the Moving In series because one of the things I've loved is Ripley's books don't follow a set pattern. Something I've noticed in a lot of series is the author follows what seems like a mad-libs version of an outline. This makes their books predictable. I don't think this author does that and it makes for a series of books that I don't get bored with.

I'm a big fan of this author and love when he's books are bundled together!! I've reviewed each one separately but I'll give you little snippets of my reviews for each book..

Book 1... The plot was really fast paced and addicting. You are brought into the action right from the start and it doesn't stop till the very end. The ghosts were all so creepy but none more so than Sam. He totally freaked me out!!!

In all, a well written story that gave me chills. This is an author that I need to check out and see more of their books!! Definitely recommend, though maybe not at night!!!

Book 2... The plot of this was again, fast paced and intense. It takes place in both this time and another, and I really enjoyed seeing Williams story and the twist the author threw in. The ghosts seem to be getting scarier and more evil and this one frightened me a lot!!

Anyway, in all, this was another quick creepy read. I so want to see these as a series!!! While reading I kept thinking to myself, what would Sam and Dean do!!! Lol. Being a big Supernatural nut, this series is right up my alley.

Book 3... One thing I've found with this series is that the settings seem to be getting creepier and creepier. I have always thought that, for a ghost story anyway, an abandoned mansion, or hospital or Sanitarium are always a good place to set it. They just give of an incredibly scary vibe! Middlebury Sanitarium was such a scary place, and the authors descriptive writing just gave me chills thinking of it. You could just imagine the pain and suffering that took place there!! Definitely not a book to read in the dark ;) Saying that, I may love scary stories but I'm a wimp and only read them during the day!!!

Again, the author creates unique and interesting characters. I loved the introduction of Ken!! His back story was awesome and his character really shined. Then we have the dead! All of them were as freaky as hell and scary as ever!! The King!!!! I got goose bumps while reading about him. But as I've come to expect with this author. Some of the awesome characters die. Damn you Ron Ripley!!!! ;) Though with so many ghosts wafting around the place, maybe they might make a return!!! Lol.

Anyway, this book, and indeed the series, was amazing. They may be relatively short books, but there is so much happening that they don't feel short. They are chock full of suspense, thrills, chills and will grab you from the first page. I so want these to be a mini series on TV!

Book 4... This series has quickly became a kind of bite sized pleasure of mine! The author knows how to capture your attention and he knows how to make your hackles rise and goose bumps appear! I love reading these, but not at night time ;)

In all, another awesome addition to the series. I so can not wait for the next one to come to audio, and that is thanks to the amazing narrator!!

Can you see a trend?? Book 5 and 6 are just as good and this series will firmly stay on my favourites list.

Thom Bowers does a great job as per usual. He has plenty of tones and voices and always brings the creepy atmosphere to life.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Gripping tales that leave you wanting more

These books are well written and leave you wanting more. The characters were easy to care about with depth and believability. The series blends just the right amount of scary ghosts with human back story that you can't help but feel like you're part of the tale. Good variety of ghost interaction and story settings so it doesn't feel like you're repeating the same story arc even with consistency of the main characters remaining part of the story.

I abandoned this series at 3%. Not sure whether the writer is inexperienced or just amateurish. The writer struggles to set the scene. People smile to themselves concerning their cooking skills shortly after having a scary, unexplainable experience! The series did receive a lot of 5 star reviews but I would not recommend it for the more seasoned reader.

I listened to the Audible.com version of this terrific series. It is over 40 hours of listening, narrated by the extremely talented Thom Bowers.
Brian Roy has a gift, if one can call it that. He sees ghosts. He also has a bad heart, so the ability to see ghosts is probably not the optimal talent one could have in that situation. So what does he do? He offers his services to people who have problems with haunted properties. Not only can Brian see the ghosts, he also has learned how to send them on to the afterlife or at least keep them imprisoned in whatever item they are attached to. Brian's tasks are not always easy. Some of the ghosts he encounters are cooperative and even team up with him, but others not so much. These not so much guys are the ones that cause all the trouble for Brian and his allies.
There are six books in this series. Each one can be read as a stand-alone but there are references to earlier storylines in each book. All the books are well written and the series as a whole is one of Ron Ripley's best, in my opinion. Some series become tedious as they progress but this one stays fresh to the end.
If you enjoy ghost stories with a huge dose of scares and a generous dollop of fright, this is the series for you.

Great Haunted Series!!

All six Books collected in one box set. These books follow Brian Roy, who used to be an average Joe until a gentleman with an extraordinary gift of being able to deal with the Dead comes into his life. The man's name is Leo and his gift has now become Brian's. However Brian has a heart condition and this gift may actually be more of a curse then a blessing.
Follow Brian's exploits throughout all 6 books and find out if his heart survives the ordeal or will Brian become a ghost himself?
Each book has it's own mystery and legend. Follow Brian as he tries to solve each and every one.
What's great about this series is that it flows well with the Berkley Street series, where you will meet Shane, who has his own unique way of dealing with the Dead.
Highly recommend this set of books!!

A couple moves into a large house and almost immediately learns that it is haunted. There is a cemetery in the basement, and all the ghostly elements are included, i.e., chilly rooms, slamming doors, etc. With determination and some helpful ghosts and friends, they eventually get these spirits to "move on" - maybe. The duo has created a reputation for success. In subsequent novels, they've created a small business to help others in similar circumstances - a mental hospital, a university, etc.

No sex, no objectionable language, and narration is fine. Fun listens for the ghouls among us.

Written by Ron Ripley, narrated by Thom Bowers, 41 hours of listening in unabridged audiobook format, released in January 2019 by Scare Street Publishing.

This was a new author to me and I saw the boxed set on audible thought it would be nice to give it a try. Well developed characters and unique plots lead to a good read (or listen). I was a little uninterested the first part of book one but I stuck with it because I didn’t want to waste all six books. I am so glad I did. The action soon picked up in an intriguing series of books that are all tied together by characters. They do have an order but i would think you could read them out of order if you wanted to and not miss things. I love series that are written that way.

If you like horror and haunted houses, give this set a try!

Long, but decent

For some reason, this took me forever to read... even though the six individual stories were suspenseful. The first book is definitely the only one where I physically felt startled; once you get to know the characters and the way the author writes, things aren't as scary. I think my favorite character was Leo, even though he wasn't necessarily a main character and he was very odd. Brian got on my nerves with his heart condition, and Jenny was a complaining worrywort. Wish this counted as 6 books on GoodReads!

Good, fun horror stories

Great, easy, quick reads. My only complaint is this: The first 3 stories don't have the name of an editor listed and they seemed fine as far as editing goes. The last 3 stories were supposedly edited, and they are full of superfluous commas, making reading awkward and difficult. Whoever was editing was comma-happy. The last 3 stories really need someone to take another look at them and clean them up. Otherwise the stories are terrific, and I always look forward to this author's work.

A ghostbusterpreneur with a ticky heart
This is a fascinating series about Brian Roy, who is a ghostbusterpreneur with a ticky heart. He has a knack for working with ghosts; ghosts that want to harm and kill him. It's not an easy job, but he makes it work. The main issue is that he has a ticky heart, and I kept thinking that eventually, it would explode on him in a mass of smoke and red blood cells. Half of the scares were enough to put my own heart in overdrive. A wonderful read and very entertaining.

This was very good considering it was one credit on Audible for 40 hours of listening enjoyment. I think Ripley does a good job with characters and the ghost plots are interesting and original in each book. I preferred the series though - it was much darker. Also, I like that Ripley brought Shane Ryan into this series, but Shane's character doesn't jive with his history in Berkley Street.

I have really enjoyed Ripleys books. Pardon my pun, but his characters, for being ghosts, are really fleshed out. The books were easy reads, yet kept me reading well into the nights. My favorite was the Academy one. I am so glad that Brian Roy has a chance to right a wrong with his brother. But it did leave me with some questions, so I guess I’ve have to read others to see if the author ends up answering them!

This was a pretty great box set.

I enjoyed this series. It was a good exciting read. This series has good flow, it doesn’t drag. It quickly picks up your interest and keeps it. I liked that the author
Keeps you guessing as to what will happen next.

This series involves a man that becomes a ghost hunter and the people he meets and works with. The characters are relatable and likeable. While reading I would find myself waiting for characters to pop into the storyline.

This is a solid series of ghost/ghost hunter stories. Best to read in sequence as they do have an overarching story. The characters are likable and grow on you and the writing is professional, which these days is a pleasant surprise. Very few grammatical issues, also a pleasant surprise. I've read a few series of books from scare Street and they are all easily worth the cost.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This collection of stories all fascinating and in a way addicting. Follow Brian and Jenny as they come to dealing with ghosts. Meet Sylvia and Leo. Each tale delves more into the Ghost world. With bonus chapters at the end of each tale that tells the story behind the story.

6 absolutely fantastic horror stories !

Great stories with a fast of ghost hunters out to help people. But beware the dead can and will hurt you! They can even kill you. And poor Brian Roy, has a good heart it just isn't healthy. And the dead know he's on borrowed time. Really enjoyed these books! Glad this author came across my Facebook feed.

Thank You once Again, Mr. Ripley

This collection is one of my favorites from Ron Ripley and, of course Scare Street. And, is second only to the Berkeley Street Collection! Currently, I am reading his Ghost Stories From Hell collection. It has kept me up late into the night - and I don't mind a bit!! I keep the lights on all night. Please, sir... May we have some more??

On my third read through of this series, well listen. I enjoy Ron Ripley and consider him right up there with Stephen King as far as storytelling. His stories are well written, and his characters are very well developed. As for the audiobooks, Thom Bowers is remarkable for bringing the characters to life and bringing their personalities out.

Ghost On The RUN

This is a very enjoyable collection of ghost stories. The stories are all written to entice the reader to keep on reading, while wondering and fearing every sound and motion in their surrounding. Ghosts are everywhere, tons and tons I'd them.
