Parker has had it with following her father and fiancé's orders, she wants to break free. When the offer of an internship leads her to the hot new bar The Pint, it's the owner who may be the chance of a lifetime.
Eli is out of the Army but you can't take the Army out of the man. His bar has become a haven for vets and as their pseudo commander, he watches over them all. When a high society miss, who he turned down the night before, comes in wanting the internship, he knows his world is about to be shaken up.

After I Fall, is the third installment of the Falling series. I haven't read the previous books and never felt lost, there are obvious previous characters and I think our hero and heroine are in the others but their romance starts here. Even though Parker and Eli are in their mid-twenties and thirties, this had a very New Adult feel to it. Each chapter is a pov change between the two, which is not a personal favorite of mine. The author did the changes fairly frequently, even in the middle of scenes, which had a tendency to break the scene for me and give a stop and go feel, keeping me out of the flow.

Parker was our poor little rich girl and Eli our bad boy soldier. This story was very trope heavy but every once in a while, there was a hint of nuances with the two that made them stand out a little bit. Parker has an abusive boyfriend and a rich daddy who doesn't pay attention to her but her business knowledge, she's trying to get into Grad school for her MBA, pops up to blow Eli out of the water with how he should market his business. Eli seems very still waters run deep but I didn't feel like we ever really got to dive into him. His big secret isn't revealed until around the 80% mark and while it was laid out, we never got the time to emotionally invest in it. However, the issues with how alienated soldiers feel when they return to civilian life and the complexity of how to manage and live with their emotions from living through war were dropped in here and there. The nuances are there but they weren't delved into or weaved in enough to become felt.

I couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed with Parker, her issue is written in a way that the heart of it seems to be that she simply won't go against her father's directives because then she'd have to pay rent for her own apartment; the father and fiancé villain characters were very underdeveloped. It's brought up that she tried to rebel once with a friend but once again, it's dropped in but never flushed out so we're left not really thinking much of it or getting an emotional impact from it. I had a hard time believing in Eli and Parker's relationship, the focuses is pretty much on them being angst-y sexually attracted to each other with Parker thinking the whole time she'll have to marry her fiancé and Eli thinking he could never be good enough for her.

The author has created a series with a handful of characters with deep troubled issues but the lack of depth and emotionally weaving them into the story hurt this installment. I believe Parker and Eli were sexually attracted to each other but not sure I buy into their long-term relationship.

I've been wanting to read Eli's story ever since we met him in Before I Fall, the former officer has been a steady influence on both of the heroes from previous books. He runs the local bar and seems to collect wounded ex-soldiers and adopt them into his tribe where he can keep an eye on them. Eli is always watching out for other people and putting their needs first but he's very closed off about his own past and you just know he's keeping a lot of things to himself so I couldn't wait to get to know him better.

I'll admit I was nervous when I found out he was matched with Parker though, what we saw of her in After I Fall didn't exactly leave me with a good opinion of her. She came across as a typical spoilt rich girl, someone who had everything handed to her on a plate and who had no idea what it was like to live in the real world. I wasn't convinced I'd ever be able to root for them as a couple but I just love it when an author manages to change my opinion about a character and Jessica Scott definitely achieved that here. Yes Parker comes from money and she's never had to worry financially but you quickly realise that her life hasn't been a bed of roses. Her problems are very different to anything I've ever experienced but that doesn't make them any less difficult for her to cope with and she gave me a lesson in not judging someone by the size of their bank account!

I thought Eli and Parker made a great couple, they're both incredibly alone in different ways. Eli is surrounded by people that he cares for and who care for him in return but he always feels like he has to be the one protecting everyone else and he doesn't really let anyone know when he's the one who is struggling. Parker on the other hand has never had anyone put her first, her whole life is dictated by what her father wants from her, she has to look good and behave in appropriate ways to help him with his business contacts and she's even been forced into an engagement with a man she doesn't like because her father has chosen him as his future son-in-law. Eli is the first person to really listen to what Parker wants and to encourage her to follow her own dreams and in return Parker is there for Eli in ways that nobody else is. They fit so well together and have fabulous chemistry too.

If there is one thing I wanted to see a little more of it would have been more of what happened after Parker confronted Davis. I really would have loved an extra scene with her father that perhaps showed he cared for her after all but I guess that would probably have been a bit too much of a fairytale because he wasn't very likely to backdown after Parker chose to defy him. I enjoyed the brief appearances by previous characters from the series though and we get to see a lot of Eli's bar staff Deacon and Kelsey which I loved. I really can't wait to read their book later on this year - I need to know more about their previous history!

Once again Jessica Scott takes on some tough, little talked about subjects and brings them into a story with the care and grace of a talented author. Eli’s military history is kind of a secret. He isn’t hiding it; he just does not discuss it. Parker has grown up in a verbally abusive life with her father and now her fiancée. Together they will save each other.

The scenes with Parker and Eli are sexually charged. They don’t even have to be touching each other for the attraction to be felt. They circle each other with plenty of innuendos and teasing before it all comes to a head between them. When they do come together, even in play, it is hot, steamy, smoking!

After the Fall is so emotional. It was not necessarily an easy read but it is an amazing read. It is a story that once you finish it you will not ever forget it. The storyline is amazing but the characters are even more. They are real people with flaws, fears, and feelings.

Ms. Scott is an auto buy for me. After I Fall is going to the top of my favorites. Eli Winter, former West Point grad, former 87th Airborne officer, has " helping" as a part of his DNA and even a tragedy in Iraq can't change it. Parker Hauser, a poor little rich girl who wants out of the direction her life is taking. Out of an engagement that is forced by her parents and is getting dangerous. Together they are combustible. Two worlds collide & they make it work!

Let me just say that the Falling Series is definitely one of the best series out there...
Eli Winters is the one that takes care of everyone else. He is the owner of The Pint, a popular bar in a college town. The Pint is much more than a bar to those that frequent it. It is a place for Vets to feel at home and unwind. Eli makes sure that those who come in his bar will always have someone to go when necessary.
Parker Hauser. To many she is a spoiled rich girl who only looks out for herself. She hides the real Parker underneath a facade of toughness that doesn't show cracks. That is until she walked into the Pint and Eli brought out her shadows to the light.

Both Parker & Eli are trying to survive in a life that has been built around them. They need to adjust to society, even though society has been harsh on them. When Parker meets Eli for the first time, she expected him to be just like anyone else. She expected him to take what he is offered and not look back. Eli refused. He wanted to look under the surface. He wanted to know more about what was going on before he jump in.

Before I Fall... This story is part of a series. It could be read as a stand-alone, but both Parker and Eli are in the previous books. You opinions about Parker will definitely change in this book.
This book deals with a lot of issues that many will not tackle, but Jessica Scott does it very well. Parenting, Family, Friendship, Relationships, Veterans, Betrayal, and Forgiveness. The issues are all connected to the characters and they have to find a way to become better people even when things are going wrong.

I was so in love with Eli in this book. I knew he would be a brooding bar owner from the previous books, but I was able to see what made him who he truly is & what he really needed to be a better man. Eli learned a few lessons and any man who is willing to admit that he is wrong, is a winner in my book!
This book won't disappoint. You see the characters in the story grow & it makes them understand what the need so much better.

After I Fall is the third book in the Falling series by Jessica Scott but each book stands alone. I fell in love with Ms. Scott's writing when I read Until There Was You in 2014 and began reading her backlist as fast as I could; I've read every book (fiction) that she's published.

The books in the Falling series have all featured The Pint in some way or another. The Pint is a bar owned by Eli Winter, a West Point graduate who served in Iraq and After I Fall is his story. The story is told in first person POV, alternating between Parker and Eli.

Parker Hauser needs an internship to qualify for an executive management program and the one she had lined up didn't work out. Eli doesn't know that one of his employees created a flyer advertising an internship at The Pint until Parker arrives to apply for it. Both of them are quite surprised when they realize that they met the night before in a less than satisfying encounter.

I'm having trouble finding the words to describe how I felt about this book. As with most books I've read by Jessica Scott, this was a very emotional read for me (in the best way). Her stories are about real people – well they're about people who seem like they could be real to me.

Eli and Parker need each other but it takes them a while to figure out how to make that happen. Parker has issues with her father and fiancé that she needs to deal with and Eli is keeping something from her that could wreck their relationship.

The language in this book is fairly coarse but I think it is probably representative of how a lot of college and post college students, and former soldiers talk. I only mention it because sometimes people buy books and then leave negative reviews when they encounter coarse language. If you are bothered by this then After I Fall might not be the book for you.

If you like realistic, emotional stories about members of the armed services after they've returned to civilian life then you shouldn't wait to read the Falling series. Kudos to Ms. Scott for another wonderful story!

“After I Fall” by Jessica Scott is a new adult contemporary romance that is a stand-alone novel that nonetheless connects to others in the ‘Falling’ series. I am always fascinated by an author’s ability to alter the reader’s perception of a character (hopefully for the better, lol) and it was intriguing to get a different perspective of Parker Hauser, since she wasn’t a very personable character in past stories. Watching her battle to be independent and valued for herself was a wonderful evolution that was matched by the gradual unfolding of her relationship with prickly Eli.

This author’s stories are both heartwrenching and inspiring, because they remind the reader of the myriad of ways people can be walking wounded and the paths they can take to cope with the wounds that may or not be visible. I love seeing the contrast between the hard-bitten exterior that houses such a nurturing and caring man as Eli is and the beautiful, intelligent, and underestimated Parker. There are sobering issues addressed in each of this author’s stories, and this one is no exception with its focus on the concepts of abuse, responsibility, sexual harassment, and family pressures. The gradual revelations of the layers of the folks spotlighted in this story remind us that nobody is perfect but true strength of character is demonstrated by how one responds to challenges that could be overwhelming.

I continue to enjoy the stories spun by this talented and prolific author and I am delighted to see that a couple of the striking secondary characters in this story will get their own time in the spotlight soon. I can’t wait to find out more about them and hopefully revisit some of my favorite folks from this compelling series.

A copy of this title was provided to me for review.

One character I already loved, but I wasn't sure about the other one from previous books in this series. I love it when an author changes my mind <3

If you've read the first two books in Jessica Scott's Falling series (Before I Fall & Break My Fall) you've already met Parker and Eli. You could probably read After I Fall without reading the beginning books in the series and be fine, but I don't recommend it. Part of the magic of After I Fall is going into it not being a fan of Parker and wondering how Jessica Scott is going to turn her into a likable character. I even mentioned that fact at the end of my review of Break My Fall when I realized who the couple in the next book would be. By the time I was done Break My Fall, I wanted Eli to find his HEA, I just didn't see how he could find it with Parker. I'm really glad (and not too surprised) that Scott found a way to change the way I looked at Parker and it really didn't even take long at all. ;)

Parker's life wasn't as easy as it seemed. There were a lot of reasons why she acted the way she did and didn't let people get too close. She wasn't an angel, but she wasn't the spoiled princess that she seemed to be either. No one saw through that though... until Eli. He knew from the beginning that there was more to Parker than the front she put up, but even he didn't know her whole story. He just knew that she didn't deserve the treatment she was receiving from those who claimed to care about her.

Eli wasn't an angel either, but like most of the characters in the Falling series, he was a product of his war experience. He wasn't quite as broken as the soldiers he tried to help and support, but he wasn't damage free either. He had his secrets and he carried a guilt around with him that he couldn't shake. His bar, The Pint, was more than a business, it was a haven for his 'band of misfits.' He couldn't risk losing it, but falling for Parker was risky for both of them.

I think I've mentioned once or twice how much I admire authors who can change my opinion about a character. It's almost as if they're giving readers a gentle reminder not to judge a person, especially if you don't know their story. Everyone has one and I'm really glad that readers got a chance to discover Parker's and watch her gain the strength and courage to rise above it.

There's more to come in the Falling series and I don't have the same reservations about the next couple that I did with Parker and Eli. I won't spoil it for anyone, but Catch My Fall is going to be interesting. ;)

I received After I Fall in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I'm loving this series by Jessica Scott! After I Fall is the third book in the Falling series and I love Eli and Parker's love story!
What looks perfect from the outside might not be what is really happening in Parker Hauser's life. It doesn't matter what she wants or even needs in life because it all is at the direction and discretion of her father and fiance. Her life in no longer her own.
Eli Winter is only slightly shocked by Parker's proposition the first night that they meet, but even though he is extremely attracted to her he turns her offer down. Working with her every night is pure torture, but he is definitely enjoying getting to know her even though he is positive that she is hiding something serious in her life.
Soon their relationship becomes a complication for both of them and opens them both up for public scrutiny exposing secrets that neither of them wants to get out. Can they both survive the fall out all the while keeping their relationship from imploding?

I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

The choices are hers to make…

This is the third book in the Falling series that can be read as a stand-alone.

The face Parker Hauser shows the world is a total façade. After the death of her mother things changed, the only use she is to her controlling father is for the political connections a match would bring him. Her father is a powerful defense contractor, her fiancé an upcoming congressman who Parker doesn’t love. She’s the entitled rich girl who isn’t allowed deviation from the life script written for her yet the prison she finds herself in is of her own making. Desperate to be free of the chains that bind her she takes an internship at a local pub, her one act of rebellion that isn’t expected to change things but unexpectedly provides a comforting sense of belonging. She’s deeply drawn to the sexy bearded tattooed owner in ways she didn’t think herself capable of but he’s too honorable for her needs and his wise supportive words cause much internal confusion.

Trained at West Point, now a former commissioned officer since resigning after events in Iraq that he couldn’t live with, Eli Winter owns and runs a bar where he collects misfits to care for like the soldiers he once looked out for, they are his replacement tribe. Letting the woman he turned down the night before work as an intern would seem out of place but there’s something in her eyes that makes her fit in, she’s known pain. Having money doesn’t buy happiness as many think it does, just different sets of problems. With great ideas for branding and marketing The Pint she’s a needed business asset but keeping his hands off her will be difficult and her presence might just bring what he left behind to life again.

The connection between Parker and Eli was steamy, the connection palpable. Though their relationship was rocky at first as they got to know and trust each other Parker gained strength. It takes courage to take a leap of faith and stand on your own when there are those against you. What will she choose to do? Eli was a great supporter and protector of those he cared about.

This was an enjoyable story with interesting characters though it’s not my favorite of the series. The ending felt abrupt, what was missing for me was being able to read the article that Parker wrote on Eli and his immediate reactions to it. There was cheating on the fiancé though with the nature of the relationship the heroine was stuck in it didn’t bother as it normally would.

An advance reading copy was won from the author in a contest.

I have to say I love After I Fall. Eli and Parker was great together and just made each other. I am so happy that Parker could bring Eli out of his bar and get him to see thing that would help the bar. I am glad that Eli was able to make Parker see that the life she was headed for was not the only she wanted and she was smart and better then that.

One of the main reason I love Jessica Scott books is because she does a great job talking about real live thing that happen before, during, and after war. She is able to put it all out there and make you understand in a way no one else can. I am so happy that I get to read and injoy these books that she put so much time in to. I would say anyone and everyone should rear all of her books to get a better look at what happen to military men and women as they give their time and after their time is up for what ever reason.

I’m torn with this book. I really liked Eli, liked what he was building for himself at the bar and how he found other lost veteran souls like himself and giving them a place to belong to again. Building a whiskey bar with all kinds of whiskey sounded fun to me, the private events and what was spent a bit crazy. Parker I was meh on. I hated how she let herself get stuck in a no win situation with her father and fiance. She knew it was bad, but wasn’t actively doing anything to make it better. It was only as Eli was threatened that she made a move. Her move was a good one, one that allowed the right story to be told. I did like the last lunch Parker had with her fiance, she played that masterfully.

There are many types of abuse and in this story Jessica addresses one that we may not ever think about. Even though there is some physical abuse the primary focus here is the emotional.Parker is trapped in her world, not by chains but by guilt and a desire to what is right. Not necessarily right for her, but for her father.

When Eli hires Parker as a small business intern, he knows he will find it difficult to keep his hands off her. She is a temptation that appeals to all of his senses. She will also be the only non-military employee he has at the Pint.

An intense, yet fun read as Parker battles her emotions on several different levels. She can't see a relationship with Eli as anything more than temporary. However, Eli has other ideas even as he discovers her secrets.

I loved the way Eli slowly gains her trust and affection. But can he find a way to capture her heart.

A journey of discovery, trust and courage.

I need more stars!!!! 5 is not enough

You know a book is good when you don't want to get to the end, because then it is over. After I Fall is pure perfection!!! I loved everything about this book. We've met Eli in other books of this series and I couldn't wait to get his story. He is the owner of The Pint, a bar were he employs other war vets and watches over others.....his misfit toys as he refers to them. He struggles with is own past, the wrongs he feels he did while at war. Enter Parker, who's trapped in a life that she doesn't want and doesn't know how to get out of. They are meant to be. I think I need to reread this series now because it will be hard to start new book right now......serious book hangover!!!

The Falling series by Jessica Scott has to be one of those series that just grips you into the whole slew of characters as Eli calls it the Misfits. Each book brings us a man or woman either from getting out of war or going through their own kind of war. We have Parker who unlike Eli is leading a cushioned life but even those who are set in life doesn`t mean they have the life they dreamed of having. Parker feels confused, lost and just not feeling like herself. All her life she has been told how to act and talk never sharing her own mind. Then we have Eli who has seen so much in War and still has regrets in his life from that lifetime. Jessica Scott created two people who are opposite from each other yet they are both looking for the same thing..to live. All in all this is a series that speaks of learning to trust and just be yourself something that Jessica Scott shows her readers that anything is possible if you learn to believe. Loved it.

Hot sexy read turned emotional and the anxiety was more than worth it. If you've read the other books in the Falling series you might remember The Pint and Parker. Eli owns The Pint, it offers a place of refuge for local veterans needing a place to unwind and connect with other vets without judgment. Parker was actually in a violence class with a previous character and she always came off as too good for everybody else. She's had the tables turned a bit as she's caught in an uncomfortable future with a junior congressman fiancee and a father that ignores her. The life of politics is definitely not for me but Parker survives it well until an event changes her thinking quickly. I found her to be a strong minded woman with the heart and mind to make the right choices but has this problem of putting others in front of her needs. This as a book I never wanted to end as I felt invested in their relationship and their future. Be prepared to get sucked in to Parker and Eli's world. I was fortunate to get an advanced copy form Scott and have written this review voluntarily.

When I first started reading I wasn't sure what to think about Parker. She is very good at making herself appear like what everyone would expect but underneath she is scarred like most people. Eli impressed me from the beginning. He is complicated because he spends so much of his time focused on everyone else and blocking out thoughts about himself. They are interesting to follow their journey because they both have the back and forth of who they are and who they want to be. I was on the journey with them from their first meeting to the very last word. I won't say details because it really is better to experience their story without another's opinion. I loved Parker and Eli and will be reading this book again and again. I was given a copy for an honest review but will be buying a copy as well.

Wow!!

Parker and Eli --- oh the chemistry. Parker is being pulled in the direction her father wants. Eli, owner of The Pint, completely misjudges Parker's intentions.

Jessica Scott never shies away from the imprints the way have left on soldiers.

After I Fall has so much to offer. Ms. Scott delivers a story that makes you care about [what you think is] a ‘spoiled little rich girl’ named Parker and a former military commander named Eli. This is a standalone book however we have met both these characters before in previous books. What this book delivers is a deep, thoughtful, loving and eerily scary story of what Parker’s life is really like. And Eli has his demons that are with him every day. Parker deals with a nasty fiancé and distant father (who are both using her to help further their own purposes) and Eli owns and runs a high-end bar that employs his own band of ex-military employees who are also his friends and makeshift family. I can recap the highlights of this book but you can read the blurb yourself. What I will tell you is this: even as the book begins with a story that can easily fall into a parody of a young woman from a privileged family and a returning veteran, it tells of an awakening of two people who are drowning in their own private worlds of hurt…[sorta spoiler ahead] but it all works out for them. Their story, After I Fall, gripped me from the beginning, and never let go.

After I fall is Book 3 of Jessica Scott's Falling Series. This book stands entirely on its own with only a brief cameo of characters from the earlier books so anyone can jump in with this story comfortably without having read any of the previous books.

There was certainly a lot of depth and emotion coursing through these main characters and even some of the secondary characters like Deacon, Kelsey and Meaghan. I have a feeling their stories are on the way and I cannot wait.

Initially I wasn't sure how I would react to Parker's character. A "poor little rich girl" who seemed to have everything but this is certainly the case of money can't buy happiness. She needed someone she could let go with and find her true self. Eli certainly fit the bill and I enjoyed watching her break the shackles that had been weighing her down all of her life.

LOVED IT!!

As with all Jessica Scott books, After I Fall tugs at the heartstrings. Jessica's kind, noble and let's not forget HOT Eli makes for one swoonworthy hero. While
Parker is a vulnerable, yet strong likeable heroine. Their chemistry is combustible!!

First person POV is hard. Alternating first person POV is even harder. Very few authors do this well. Jessica Scott is one of them that does. After I Fall is the latest in the Falling New Adult series. Even though it is NA, it deals with all the same issues as her hard core military novels. Most importantly this one focuses on the masks we wear and how just because we appear to be one thing does mean we are. Parker and Eli both embody the masks they wear. It is only when they are together do they really see each other for who they both are. This is a powerful draw for both of them. I will read anything Scott writes and this is no exception.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Parker is good at subterfuge. She has an image to maintain and a world to impress. What happens when the need to be perfect leaves her broken down and dying inside? Eli is a walking contradiction. The need to protect is embedded in his veins but his personal world is filled with demons and pain. Ms. Scott created a story that sticks on the mind, after every secret has been exposed and the heartache is left behind. A sensually sensitive yet sobering experience.

So the first word that comes to mind after reading this book and while reading this book is sex. Now I am all for sex being in books but I did feel that this talk about sex in the many different ways was a tad overkill. I did enjoy the story line and also the two main characters. You can read this book as a stand alone or with the series.

Living your life in a way to make everyone around you happy often means you’re not happy. And Parker’s life has hit that turning point where she has to decide who she is living for; herself or her family.

Partly in an act of defiance she accepts an internship at Eli’s bar. The people there are opposite of what she knows, but exactly what she needs.

There is an instant attraction between her and Eli. Though it might start as a bit of a rebel phase, it very quickly becomes clear it’s more than that.

Eli has the tendency to take care of other people, it’s the commander in him. While others might think Parker doesn’t belong in the bar, Eli sees a girl who is hurting.Though it soon becomes more than helping her out.

After I Fall is a pretty fast read. The connection between Parker and Eli is pretty instant, but there is so much more at play here. This kind of family drama kills me. A good girl being smothered by a life she doesn’t want.

Seeing Parker trying to break free is amazing. Definitely not an easy situation to handle, and I love that she makes mistakes.

I still would have liked to get to know Eli better. Even after finishing this story I feel I don’t have a real handle on him. He’s a good guy, and I love what he does with the bar.

After I Fall was a good story, though it didn’t blow me away, or dragged me in like other stories by Jessica Scott. A good read for the fans.
