thank goodness I got this on amazon. it helped remind me of some of the little things that were important in the book.
It's the same thing as online- I just like to have a physical copy to write notes and highlight things :)

Meh. Classics are classics and full of sexism. Other than that, it was decently easy to understand while staying true to the original text. Recommended for students.

Romeo and Juliet is easy to understand in this rendering by Sparknotes, and so I highly recommend this simple guide for new readers of Shakespeare tragic play. Movie versions are also a fun way to hear this romantic story. The original is best when you're ready for poetry.

This book was fantastic, I read this book in middle school and I still every now and then read it again I love love loooove Romeo and Juliet I've saw the movies I've read the play by Shakespeare's and this edition is a must read because it has the complete text of the original play on one side and the the modern text on the other side which basically translates the text so you can actually understand what they are saying. I appreciate sparksnotes so much because they have all of Shakespeare's plays translated which is great if you want to understand what you're reading lol

Even though everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet, there were still things that surprised me. I really felt bad for Montague, when I found out that not only had his son killed himself, but his wife had died when Romeo had been exiled. I feel like the story could have been so incredibly different if not for all the stupid 'coincidences'. That Friar Lawrence's friend just HAPPENED to be put in quarantine and not deliver the letter to Romeo, that Mercutio had been enough of a dumbass to fight Tybalt, and be killed on the day that Juliet and Romeo wed, that Friar Lawrence just HAPPENED to get to Capulet's tomb just a few minutes after Romeo, that Juliet just HAPPENED to wake up a few minutes after Romeo killed himself, etc. It was a miserable ending, but of course, everyone knows the story, so it was expected. The Nurse character made me laugh a lot. For example the night Juliet went off to bed and drugged herself and she was all like "Get your rest now, because Count Paris surely won't let you rest tomorrow night." Her and Benevolio were very likable characters to me. And the Friar. Everyone else annoyed me at some point or another in the story. If I had to describe the play in one sentence, I'd say: Predictable, but still good.

And how ironic that I would finish the play on this day.

I love the story, and reading the modern version (in terms of modern vocabulary and phrases, not a retelling) really helps you get an idea of the story and all the dialogue. Everyone knows the story but there is a certain level of appreciation that only comes when you can understand what the characters are saying to each other. Have fun, like i did reading this.

Read for a Shakespearean era related course and in conjunction with my English History studies.
Overall, I found this work of immense interest - a good work for the researcher and enthusiast also.
This work may prove to be one of my future resources for ghost authoring novels for E.MH. Ratterman.
I found this play's contents inspiring - number rating relates to the book's contribution to my needs.
A quick read/skim through.
